I keep coming back to this (and all realtime) as the best barbershop in existance. Quartets and choruses need to aspire to this mastery of the art form...

I know I'm late to the party stumbling on this performance. I got nostalgic and looked up songs I remember from my barbershop-influenced childhood. I will admit my Barbershop "world" was spent with these guys (aside from the lead). My uncle sang with the Metzger's Dad Charlie. I watched Tim, Tom & Mark for years and EVERY time I hear them sing, it takes me back to the good old days of listening to pick up quartets singing pole cat songs & belting out a tag around a campfire in Anacortes & White Rock. They were all SOOO good individually and to see them come together like this was BREATHTAKING!!! Thank you for posting this!! :-)

it really doesn't matter whether one's late if enough people visit it frequently lol

I grew up with 1966 Champs The Renegades, and The Gentlemen's Agreement later. My Dad was a tenor for 30 years for The Cherry Capital Chorus. This is a great example of a ringing chord! They do it so well! It takes much commitment to practice that and get it right. I watched my Dad's quartet practice often in our living room for many years! Good job fella's! Take a bow!

4:36 7:49 Well they knew their money chords! Not sure if another quartet has ended both songs from a round on the exact chord, with everyone singing the same note. Not saying it's anything but awesome!

I know I'm 4 years late, but First Take's 2023 semifinals set immediately comes to mind - Let's Go Fly a Kite + Not While I'm Around, both ending on an A♭ major 1-5-1-3 with Alex chesting the third. It's got impressively loud and awesome ring, just like Realtime's E♭ major 1-1-3-5 here!

No quartet surpasses Realtime's overtones. Lots of quartets are more virtuosic, but if I had to choose a quartet to sing ONE chord (preferably Eb major 1-1-3-5 like in YIHTR) I would choose Realtime every time.
@guibox37 жыл бұрын
Vocal Spectrum probably comes close but I agree. The quartets that have won in the last 5 years can't come close to Realtime (and really most of the quartets from 2000-2010)
@jetson8886 жыл бұрын
I think part of the issue is quartets are going for scoring now...the pop medleys and comedy instead of traditional chord building. I really think it’s to reach a new younger generation
