I have a broad nib 3776, which I didn’t like at first, but it’s grown on me. I also have the fine. I’m thinking of getting a medium too. I just really like these pens! I even like the plain old blue cartridge ink that comes with them.

Thanks for your review! I kept vacillating between a couple but made up my mind & just picked up a Double Broad/Coarse in the Laurel Green from Pen Chalet (love that store! I love it a little too much I'm afraid...😳)

Oh my gosh, you are the fountain pen deal finder of the year! If I’m not mistaken that green one is like 175 on Goulet and the red one is close to 200. I’m so impressed by your ability to find good deals.

My wallet is still not that happy with my deal finding😊. I’ve found that if I shop around and am willing to wait, the pens I want are on sale somewhere at some point. However, I may have just gotten a full price Diplomat Aero with a cursive italic custom grind on Goulet😳

That coarse would be a perfect candidate for an architect grind! Great comparison, thank you.

Just received my 1st Platinum #3776 Century Fountain Pen - Chartres Blue/Gold with Coarse Nib. I didn't realize that Platinum doesn't include converters with the pens, but no big deal. The pen is so beautiful I'm amazed. I've ignored these pens for years as I'm a confirmed Pilot Custom model guy. I'm anxious to ink it up and take it for a spin. Good review & video. Thanks. Got mine on eBay from Japan, and it only took 3-4 days, and the price good.

I hope you love it! The coarse nib is lovely!

@@MysteryArts Received a couple of Platinum converters, and got the 3776 inked up Akkerman Purple (not crazy about the color, but hadn't used any yet, so... ). Really smooth, better then my Pilot Custom 74, 742s. Very wet, and just glides across the paper. What I see on the top of the nib is a flat spot which with this pen, you can use to write with. It puts down a ? medium sized line I'd guess. Being upside down, it doesn't seem to run dry! That's a really nice feature in my opinion, one nib with two sizes, and both are very usable:-).
@MysteryArts4 жыл бұрын
@@strshooter7399 Yes! I rarely test what they call "reverse writing" but it's good to know that you can do that with the 3776. Akkerman inks are very nice, but they don't have much of a color range. Maybe you'll warm up to it. It flows nicely, so that is a plus:).

did you ever get the Coarse nib ground? Or are you using it as is? I have three Platinum #3776 broad nibs that I love, but they all write a little different. ONe of them is broader than I like, so I need to only use specific drier inks and specific paper for that "too broad" for me nib

I have looked at platinum pens. I love extra fine as I do urban sketching and a draw everyday. I don’t really like the standard styling of these pens.. I like more modern style like the Opus 88. But I do love Leonardo Momento zero too. Thanks for the comparison!
@MysteryArts4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been considering a Leonardo Momento Zero-any tips? The 3776 may not be modern, but their nibs are wonderful-I’ve loved them all. They do have an ultra extra fine if you are looking for something super fine.

Aloha! Mahalo for comparing the various nib sizes you own. My first try of a 3776 was with a fine nib, which I thought was more like an extra fine (I guess true to Japanese sizing?) and as much as I love fine nibs, I thought it was too fine. So with that in mind, I was thinking that a medium would be like a fine, so I made the jump to a broad which is a true broad in all sense? I think my nib has an issue, so it doesn't write the smoothest and of course with the trademark feedback. I actually like writing with it upside-down better as it writes like a stub, but of course a little drier. Interestingly, GourmetPens just posted a comparison between the Platinum 3776 Course and the Sailor Zoom nibs and she showed that the Platinum Course also can give you line variation depending on the angle that you hold the pen, but with my Zoom, it's only smooth at a certain angle and generally not as smooth as I like! Anyway, much appreciate you doing the writing comparison. I think the Course is a bit too broad for my taste and writing ..... Mahalo!

Oh, as always I forgot a few things! Thanks for mentioning the rattling converter/cartridge and the imprinting difference on the cap band, both the style and what's imprinted. I think the newer (current?) model also includes CENTURY where it's excluded on the older model. But my main pet peeve is the molding marks, that can be both seen and felt, on the grip section. I have the same issue on my Pelikan M205 ....

Thank you for this comparison. I found my Sailor B is more like my JoWo M and so I am wondering if I should go C (BB) for Platinum just for variety. Now I am not so sure! Thanks again!
@MysteryArts3 жыл бұрын
Both the Platinum Broad and Coarse are lovely nibs and, if you like a broad nib, you would probably be happy with either.
@TwoMiceOnMyBookshelf3 жыл бұрын
@@MysteryArts I like M and smooth F for western nibs so that translates to B and M for Japanese ones I am thinking. I heard Platinum nibs are harder than Sailor which is why I thought maybe B is best for my first Platinum. I have Sailor’s zoom nib which I think is close to Platinum’s C (BB) judging from your demonstration here? Thank you!
@MysteryArts3 жыл бұрын
@@TwoMiceOnMyBookshelf The Platinum B is broader than other Japanese B nibs, but it is very smooth--I would say it is on the broad side of a western medium. Coarse is more like the broadest you can get with a zoom nib.

So I have the Pilot Custom 823, which I love and the quality of the resin is wonderful. How does the quality of the resin for the 3776 compare? I am thinking about this pen, but just wondered your thoughts about the quality
@MysteryArts Жыл бұрын
The 3776 quality is very good. The pilot 823 is probably the gold standard, but I would say that the 3776 resin is similar in quality. The pilot and platinum nibs are very different though-the platinum nibs definitely have a bit more feedback. Not better or worse, just different and it depends on your preference.

Good day, I know this video is a long while ago, have you ever put shimmer ink in the double broad nib? If so how was the performance? Thanks.
@MysteryArts Жыл бұрын
Funny enough I still haven’t put shimmer ink in the double broad. I’m sure it would perform well with shimmer ink though. Broad nibs tend to work best for shimmer.
