Damon Albarn from Blur is the main vocalist of Gorillaz. His character in Gorillaz is 2-D. Del the Funky Homosapien (Hieroglyphics crew) is the rapper in this, he's collaborated with them a handful of times but isn't technically a member of the band. Del actually wrote this song after reading a book on how to write a hit song. Seems like it worked lol The art is done by a comic book artist named Jamie Hewlett, famous for Tank Girl but probably by this point more famous for Gorillaz themselves

By 'wrote the song', you mean wrote the lyrics I guess, the music is pretty much fully taken from a rhythm preset on some old keyboard or drum machine, I just saw a video the other day with Damon Albarn demonstrating that.

That is Del, the Funky Homosapien. Basically, a spirit has possessed the drummer. They "See me now because you don't see with your eyes, you perceive with your mind." So it's kind of a dream sequence. And each member reacts differently. Noodle goes on the attack, Murdoch runs away, and 2-D just keep moving on. Great band!

It was also how Clint Eastwood described a sack of gold coins in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. He says it's "sunshine in a bag."
@sonicking200418 күн бұрын
I'd say the intro's more of an acapella version of the first 4 seconds of that theme on repeat, but I guess they may be claiming that it was an inspiration si I'll leave it at that. Also the "I've got sunshine in a bag" line? While here it's possibly a drug reference I saw someone mention that in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Clint's character (The Man With No Name) had referred to a bag of gold as sunshine in a bag, and after doing some research I found out that in a scene where a kid asked him if he was alright that Clint responded with that very line.

LEAP down the Gorillaz rabbit hole! Brain child of multi-instrumentalist Damon Albarn (of Blur... contemporary to Oasis and the two bands clashed a lot in England) and Graphic Artist Jamie Hewlett. The band is insanely collaborative with additional artists constantly joining the band for a track here and there. Everyone from rappers Del the Funkee Homosapien and De La Soul to Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Thundercat, London Community Gospel Choir, even Elton John!. Tracks you really need to check out include Feel Good, Inc. , Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish, Cracker Island, 19-2000, Dare, Melancholy Hill... so many great tunes, and videos!

GOrillaz is an awesome group. Two or three main "characters" who always bring in guest performers, usually from other genre's. Many good rappers have done cameos in their vids/songs. Dare is one of my favorites, but Feel Good Inc, Dirty Harry, Stylo, and Melancholy Hill are up there on the list. Very eclectic sound and group. Love your stuff and your opinions. Got completely away from rap and R&B in the 90's, as it has bled into other genre's, I am regaining my appreciation for it. I'm an old man from the Curtis Blow - Basketball and Snoop's - Gin and Juice days.
@mr.knowitall644019 күн бұрын
The "Clint Eastwood" thing seems to just be derived from the trippy harmonica riff, which is similar to what you'd hear in Clint's "spaghetti western" movies. 🧐 "A Fistful of Dollars", "For A Few Dollars More", and "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly". 🍝🤠

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 It can be SO tough to get reactors to do a decent deep dive into this band, group, collective, there is SO much to dig into, Damon Alburn is the voice of the character 2-D the animation is headed by Jamie Hewlett, otherwise you'll have to research whomever the feature or collaborator is for every song, have fun my guy, Gorillaz was just as big in our house as you are Krizz, ❤❤❤❤
@Gigean2337312 күн бұрын
The Gorillaz are actually a "digital band", in that the official members are 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel. In actually, they are the duo-project of musical artist Damon Albarn (of Blur) and visual artist Jaimie Hewlett. So it's both a musical and visual art band, and the music videos help tie together all the stories of the band members. I believe there are comics and other forms of media that tie together the music, the band, and the artist. My understanding is that as long as those two work together, the "band" can put out tracks regardless of who else comes and goes.
@jamesrowe360613 күн бұрын
The line is actually, "I ain't happy, I'm feelin' glad ..." The "ain't" is slurred, but it's there and I think it adds to the enigmatic charm of the song.

It’s a mix of a number of things, but could be considered as something like rock/hip-hop lite. Their sound covers a lot of genres over the decades they’ve been active due to the many collaborations they’ve done and their dedication to never really stick to any one specific sound. In addition to that, because they’re fictional characters the backstory to this band is absolutely wild and doesn’t actually have to be in touch with reality. Their latest album coincides with Murdoc’s need for relevance and appreciation so he starts a cult only to find an old Hollywood cult of immortals the band then has to escape from. Russel has been a kaiju, Noodle was a mis-shipped child assassin if I remember correctly, all sorts of stuff like that. The story basically is as entertaining as the music and the shorts as well as the music videos are worth checking out if you’re interested

It's subtly subversive cos that happiness comes in a bag..i'm fairly sure he's talking about getting elevated and then the following low, it's "not for long, the future is coming on". The Clint Eastwood reference is the opening sounds they're making, which is a parody of the spaghetti western themes in The Good The Bad and The Ugly. You might enjoy Damon Albarn's band Blur and checking out some of their songs (I saw them live at a festival, and they were fantastic, being able to play at a level that matched the studio recordings...very talented guys).
