I agree with Sharon. If the roles are reversed and I as a woman paid for a trip, pre relationship and my new partner wants me to cancel that trip because he is uncomfortable, someone is going to have to reimburse me. And most likely that’ll be the person asking me to cancel. Also we’re missing context on if the writer was invited to the ski trip. Her being invited or not is important to determine if she’s being unreasonable.

I agree. It also isn’t clear if she was able to go whether it be finances or booking arrangements. Like was she unable to go and just expected him to cancel it and “prioritize” her because of the “principle.” If I’ve paid for a trip before I knew you I would go. I definitely would reassure you but if you can’t come I’m not canceling.

Nah babe. If it was actually a situation where he couldn’t go, he could have said “I’ll try to find someone to take my spot” and THEY can reimburse him. Regardless, i agree with. Asking your partner to reimburse you is crazy. Asking his partner to go, would have been the simplest solution.

I love how Sharon addressed the fact that partners should watch out for each other and how things look, making sure they don’t look “crazy” or something. Because a lot of times, at least as women, I feel like we’re told “why do you care what other people think?” or “don’t worry about others” but sometimes it is a valid concern that the way your partner is moving or behaving will look strange and make other people question your relationship status and that’s a valid concern. That was very nice to hear Sharon address that

Dilemma: I was seeing someone and they had planned a caravan trip with a girlfriend of theirs to go attend a concert before we met. I obviously asked who she was, and as mentioned in the podcast, he made SURE there was no ambiguity and no cause for worry as they had known each other for years and years and she was a lesbian, and during the trip he still included me by texting me and sending me videos... There are ways to create a trusting base for your relationship, which OP's boyfriend absolutely failed to do. And some comments seem to think trust isn't earned and boyfriend had no responsibility whatsoever in the way his actions and words impacted their relationship... On top of that, this holiday was around Valentine's day. So you'd have your person feel lonely while you're having fun with another girl for the one celebration meant for couples and to celebrate love ?... It is icky however you look at it, but even more so when you don't pretend you're sorry, and you do nothing to try and make it seem like you're regretting not spending that time with your girlfriend instead, but if you're going to miss her like crazy, you can't cancel it for monetary reasons, but you'll make it up to her with a romantic getaway when you come back, or something. Anything really. To show that you care at all ! As for the age old question: do strictly platonic friendships between men and women exist? I don't believe they do. If there are exceptions, it doesn't change the rule. I guarantee you that in the right settings/ circumstances, at the right moment, at least one of the parties involved will see the other one in a segsual or romantic way. It doesn't have to last long. It can be because of alcohol. Because they got their heart broken. Because you're wearing something more revealing and they realize you're not just fun to be around but also very segsy, or you lose weight/ your appearance changes one way or another, or some other person hits on you and they start feeling possessive/ jealous (or vice versa)... And it has nothing to do with having self control 🤦🏾‍♀️. You not acting on your impulses / desires doesn't mean they don't exist ! And we can only know what we feel. In my 31 years of life, I have never had one male friend that wasn't gay with whom there was never some type of ambiguity at some point. From them or from me. Even my one exception told his brother (who I loved with all my soul as I'd advertise to anyone who'd listen) that he could have anyone but me (which his girlfriend was a bit salty about). Sooo yeah... 🤷🏾‍♀️

My guess is that he tried to reassure her, she wouldn’t accept and they got into an argument where he said fine pay me back. Yes, the trip was booked before he started dating her, but he could have given her some reassurance about the relationship with the female friend. I think the Ski trip one is a bit sticky, since he booked the trip before he met his girlfriend he wont just cancel the trip because she doesn’t trust him, plus it could of been short notice to bring his girlfriend

This is just my opinion. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking your partner for reimbursement because planning trips like skiing can be expensive. It will just feel like all of his money has been wasted to not go. Let's flip the scenario the other way, it would be pretentious for her to not ask the guy for a refund and not consider the money and time it took to plan the trip. Also, you can argue that he could have offered to bring her along which may sound reasonable, but he might not be able to afford to bring her along, he and his friend might have put two or more things together to save for this trip that she is insisting not to go. In conclusion, I just feel like she might have not considered the time, money, and effort that had gone into planning a trip like that. I also feel like breaking up with an individual because of a trip on Valentine's Day is a bit harsh and selfish. It seems like in that relationship it's one-sided and everything revolves around what you want. If it's not your way the hit the highway type vibe. Again, this is just my thoughts and my opinion that i'd like to share.

The girlfriend is insecure, the trip was planned BEFORE was he committed to her. BEFORE, not after. If she can attend as a plus one then fine, but to ask him to cancel is hella selfish. If you don't trust him just leave. To ask for a reimbursement in reponse to you asking me to cancel is very appropriate. And I can't reassure you if you don't trust me when I planned a trip BEFORE I met you. It's either you trust me or you don't. No amount of reassurance will change that.

Couldn´t the boyfriend, suggest changing the trip dates, even if by a couple of days after Valentines. Would show that he cares and still get to have the trip. Less of a gas lighting suggestion and reassuring her as a priority at the same time. Just curious wouldn´t trips be more expensive if booked during valentines season? sounds a bit on the hopeful side from one of the parties. (even if before the relationship). Dunno. I think you need a second segment on the week with dilema´s follow up, be that with comments as advice or possible turns people took after your advices. As for the decision sounds right, today is a trip tomorrow something else, she would be teaching him that she is okay being treated that way. However, depends how long they have dated for, perhaps if early there was still time to suggest change and evaluate.
