These are really great, thank you! Just a note to newbies like myself, it helps to learn the pentatonic (5 shapes) and the C (Am) scale (3 note per string, 7 shapes) for the whole neck before using these exercises. This way you don't really need to remember the tabs, and it's easier to know how to apply them in solos.

your videos have helped me out tremendously man, I really want to say thank you very much...ive been coming to this video every day for a week now (about 5 times a day) at first these scales were a little difficult but I have now got them down very nicely. these videos of your are a great learning tool for good guitarist looking to just get better and guitar players who really dig slashes style (I do) I saw guns n roses with Aerosmith in Aug 1988 on their appetite tour. they were amazing. Axles voice was a little beat but Slash was right on the money. he was awesome. thanks again Niko. these exercises have really helped me out a lot.

Hey Nico, thanks for sharing this. It’s really helpful to understand Slash technique. My kid, 6-years-old - another Slash’s fan, enjoys a lot watching you playing the guitar, so you have a little “fan” in Argentina J . Thx again and keep those fingers playing!

weirdly enough (or so not) the first three notes are the same as the first solo lick in paradise city (to the difference close that in the exercise it's in e when slash plays in e flat but it's the same lick); even if it's only three notes it's pretty distinctive

It seems to me or the tab for Ex 2 is slightly different(the hammer-ons and pull-offs) than the video(when you go up the scale starting on low E string from A) ??. I might be wrong.

Which pedals did you use to get your guitar to sound like Slash's tone?
@nomoreluke5 жыл бұрын
Slash doesn't use very many pedals. Just a delay, a wah and a chorus occasionally. Although he does have an octave pedal as well I believe. He certainly doesn't use pedals to get his tone. His sound is pretty much a Les Paul into a relatively cranked Marshall. If you want to get close on a relatively low budget, I'd recommend an Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus (with the Gibson '57 pickups) into a Marshall DSL40CR, with the bass EQ-ed low, mids high and dial in the treble until it gets some bite. Will still cost you a fair wad of cash though, but worth it!!

how much time does it take to reach these speeds? I've been playing for 6 years religiously and I still can't seem to hit speeds like that? uggghhh. I'm trying 2 to 3 hours a day of just exercise one to see where it gets me in a month.
@thegstr33t814 жыл бұрын
CDVAK speed isn’t just about what your picking hand is doing. It takes some doing, but you’ll have to train your fret hand to match the speed of your picking hand, and if you’re just starting out trying to train your hand to do this, then get ready for some serious hand aching. But you have to work through the pain, it’s the only way to get stronger and increase your speed. I believe in you!
@thegstr33t814 жыл бұрын
CDVAK also, don’t listen to everyone else, alternate picking and chicken pickin is totally okay, slash definitely uses it! You don’t have to downpick everything ( unless your name is James hetfield )
