Men have always been this way, men built this world and alot of it is based on empathy, i just watched Oppenheimer, shows you how a man wanted to exceed the boundaries of science and wanted it axed on the bases that it would be used to hurt people that shouldn't have been hurt. These stories are everywhere and are usually hidden from sight because most people dont go seeking validation for kind acts, they just do it so its done.

@@lunsettabee i watch a lot of history documentaries and i prefer objective truth, theres always a risk that our history has been altered in order to bend the absolute truth but the common trend especially in the last few centuries is that overly ambitious, almost psychopathic and greedy men and mens war have often progressed our technology and infrastructure. If this wasn't true then women's suffrage was a lie and would be a lie today wouldn't you agree. You can't use the exception to the rule as the defining rule, women have made great achievements through history but only a handfull have held power, power to change the very existence of human integrity. That being said men have always held empathy because its empathy that creates rebellion when a man of power is unjust, anger too is a subset of empathy, to see your entire people slaughtered it makes you sad and angry to a point where you want to fight so it wont happen to fellow villagers, sometimes you stop, sometimes you become so infused with rage that you become the monster you were fighting and the cycle forever continues.

The destroyed PS4 story completely broke my heart. It’s like if your hobby was painting and your partner came in and destroyed every painting you’ve ever made and threw away all your painting supplies, only to then “gift” you with expensive new canvases, paints, and brushes. Yeah, the materials are replaced, but the thing that mattered to you is destroyed and you cannot replace the time, effort, and results of your passion. I almost got out of my seat and walked away like Ian did 😤
@kartrix1
@kartrix1 Ай бұрын
While it hurt and cringed to hear that, I do think breaking up was a little overboard - mainly because the issue didn't seem to be about a betrayal of trust, but rather it seems like she misunderstood the nature of how gaming/games work and why people do it (which happens a lot with people who don't play games). I get that this can be something this guy can't come back from and he may need some space, but it also seems like she understood what it meant to him at the end of it and can move on to have a better understanding of the other person - given that they had no issues before and she didn't seem to be malicious.

@@kartrix1 I dunno... I feel like she shouldn't have needed a comparison to understand that she hurt her partner. And the fact that she didn't apologize right away after he told her what she did hurt him so bad is a problem. I'm also not entirely sure I believe her when she said that it wasn't about TikTok. I mean she got the idea from TikTok and had her friend record it all for her... And like they said in the video, I don't necessarily believe people when they're like "Oh, we've never had any issues in our relationship." I feel like even if he didn't realize it, this was a wake-up call. Sad stuff all around regardless, though. :\

@@TheKat12364 I get she broke it, but once he was able to explain it in a way she could understand - she did. It doesn't undo what happened, but I think about how open she was to sit down, communicate and really listen to the other person the way they did in the end - that's the toughest part of a relationship, she was willing to look past her pride and learn why it's wrong. You don't have to be right all the time, but being able to do that on both sides is typically a healthy sign. Breaking up is completely that guy's choice and whether or not they can look past it is completely up to them and that's okay. But, I do also think the fact that they could sit down and have a heart to heart is a good sign and a shame.

About the guy with the PS4, I think a point that wasn’t discussed it’s the “violence” fact. Like I would be disturbed if out of nowhere my partner smashes my switch (even if it’s a surprise, there’s an element of destruction) that would make me reconsider their behavior for future situations. I don’t think he was in the wrong from broken up with her tbh.
@anniep.6808

That's a really great point! That would be a scary moment to be in - someone loudly destroying your property with a hammer, and you have no idea where this behavior is coming from, if it's going to escalate, why they brought someone with them while they do this... that's a chilling moment. Even if he could rationalize the situation later, I would imagine his feelings of "this is a safe and predictable person" would have changed at a gut level. I can see why, even if he was able to understand her point of view, this was so upsetting he couldn't move past it.

This was my first thought. If I (woman) was with a man who burst out into physical violence one day, whether it’s against an object or a person, I’m leaving before it’s me. And even if he never hits me, the trust that he won’t is gone. I won’t feel safe.

Excatly, that moment would be so scary. My first thought would be "wtf is happening?" and second "what will they attack/do next?" And I don't know if I'd ever be able to get over that fear. To be fair, I grew up in an abusive home so my constant reality was waiting for the moment someone would suddenly snap and fearing what they might do, and I think experiencing what happened in the reddit story would send me right back there and I would leave as soon as I felt i safely could.

The story about the husband who was obsessed with Final Fantasy gave me flashbacks to my crappy emotionally abusive ex who was also obsessed with video games (and hated spending time with me). taking the ps4 out of the equation: having your partner come home and take something out of your hands, then destroy it in front of you while someone stood by and recorded the moment. it could have been a coffee maker or a vacuum or whatever, that experience alone sounds absolutely traumatizing. i cannot imagine the mindset it takes for someone to preplan something like that, and not only be so caught up in their plan not to notice the distress you're causing someone, but to dismiss it in multiple conversations afterwards? that's nuts, i'm actually really glad he had the sense to get out of that relationship.

Like, even if it all was just a complete misunderstanding and the gf now realizes why what she did was wrong, that’s not something that you just forget about and move on from. It’s not about the fact that it was a ps4, which is what they all fixated from. It’s about the complete lack of understanding, communication, and respect that you have to have for this to happen. And it’s also because she literally smashed his property to bits in front of him with a hammer. That’s actually scary, especially in the moment when you don’t understand what’s going on. That’s a moment when you realize your partner has the capacity for violence towards you or your things and you can never unsee it. Like after the first or second time he tried to explain, even if I didn't get it, I would still say sorry and try to make it up to him because I could see that it effected someone I loved a lot. I think that's why he didn't want to stay. Even if she couldn't understand, she didn't even try to empathize or make it better until she understood. Sometimes it's better to see that you did wrong and fix it and then try to understand why it was wrong before doing something about it.

If it hurt someone, ask for THEIR logic and reasoning. Understand it from the point of view of their values. You don’t get to decide whether they are “allowed” to feel that or if they’re being “irrational.” An example from interacting with my dad: “Well *I* don’t get upset if someone insults me to my face, therefore if you have a problem with it you’re being a baby. I don’t generally pretend to understand cheaters. It hurts my head. If you take morality out of it (which you shouldn’t), it’s still so much stress! Any moment you could be caught. Even if you’re selfish, why live like that? BUT when the cheater is still sleeping with the SO and screwing around, that at least makes sense in a cake-eaters way. This guy didn’t even LIKE his partner. She vanished for a week and he didn’t care. Like even in a human way of, “Gee, hope she’s ok.” So…. Why not break up? Why stay married and cheat in that scenario? It breaks my brain. Maybe money? Social stigma? Not wanting to be the bad guy? WHY?!

the post about the Final Fantasy 14 could have been written by me about my ex except a different game. Last straw for me was leaving for work on our anniversary at 6am, getting home at 4 to find them playing with headphones on, cooking them dinner and telling them happy anniversary to a single word of thanks before they went back to the game and their discord chat, then not logging off until well after I’d gone to bed. “He’s more like a roommate than a husband” is EXACTLY it. They were living in my apartment and sleeping in my bed and I was able to negotiate one day a week where we could spend time together, but making them stick to that was rare. Outside of those nights, we had zero contact. We worked at the same place (I got them a job because they were unemployed) and they pretended not to know me in passing. I still have so many thoughts like OP, too. Maybe it was my unrealistic expectations. Maybe I pressured them into too much, even though the relationship was their idea despite my reservations; moving to be with me was their idea too. They needed a social circle that wasn’t me. We’ve been broken up for a long time now, but I already had a lot of fear about being “too much” and I just don’t think dating is worth it for me anymore.

So they destroy my entire body of work, all my paintings and drawings. Wouldn’t i want to just redo them with the better paint? Isn’t it kind of shitty for me to not be grateful? This is exactly it. Everyone has that "one thing" in their life that if you break it, you're out. Like, I'm a big Lego enthusiast. It's a toy, yeah, but it's MY hobby. I've been passionate about it since before I can remember. I have a collection that literally spans multiple decades. I'm 26 now and still build and collect. If someone, and I mean ANYONE, threw out my Lego collection without talking to me about it, they're out of my life. I wouldn't talk to them again. That's trust that's been broken, that's years of memories gone, that's money that's been lost, etc. Everyone has something that, if destroyed, would break their trust in an instant. It helped me through my transition and the game holds a special place in my heart. I did everything I could possibly do in the game and stopped playing it. A couple months ago, my niece moved in with me, and I made the decision to let her override my save file so that she could get comfort out of the game like I did when I first moved here. Instead of her immediately jumping to "oh god im so sorry i really miscalculated! i didnt realize that id be destroying game data. im so so sorry!" Both her and her friend just acted like he was ungrateful instead of being able to go "oh damn we messed up big time!". Something to be mentioned with the ps4 story is that causing your partner intentional pain emotional or otherwise, with the intent of being the person who makes them feel better, is manipulation and abuse. It is a tactic often used by narcissistic people. I wouldn't be surprised if the family pointed out other instances where shed done similar things that might have affected his decision to leave. My ex admitted to intentionally making me cry so he could cheer me up. He thought it was sweet. Its a tactic to get them to see you as the hero, the savior, the person they trust when really they are the one causing the pain in the first place.

This is such a good point. My ex did the same thing. It gets tiring once you know the charade and they get pissed/dismissive if you don't give the reaction they're trying to milk out of you. Adding to the "childish interests" convo in the second story - a lot of people who had unstable childhoods were forced to grow up FAST, and often weren't allowed, or didn't allow themselves, to enjoy things made for children when they were children. When they seek these things out as an adult, they are healing from that trauma. I'm not saying every 35 year old taking themselves on a fun trip to Build-A-Bear Workshop is an abuse survivor, but indulging your inner child is a legitimate therapy method. The child that you were doesn't disappear when you turn 18. You can repress them and deny them comfort, but that child will always be a part of you. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can embrace everything that you are, and you'll be less likely to judge other adults for watching cartoons and playing with Legos.

And when you wake up on your eleventh birthday you expect to feel eleven, but you don't. You open your eyes and everything's just like yesterday, only it's today. And you don't feel eleven at all. Like Damien said, for a lot of people who don't play games it might seem silly because they don't take games seriously, but I think independently deciding to destroy something of your partner's - especially something irreplaceable that they invested so much time into - is a red flag that should be understandable to anyone. You don't get to decide how much sentimental value something "should' have to a person, even if you can't relate to it. I have a Skyrim save that I haven't touched in probably 10 years. At this point chances are I'll never play it again, but that save file is going to live on my Steam cloud forever because it holds memories for me, even if those memories happened in a virtual world.

Not until he could explain a scenario she could see herself in did she see what she did wrong. That folks, is a total lack of empathy for others. When people only understand issues if they're brought onto themselves you need to run away from them. Also, if I had a partner who destroyed my N64 I would absolutely break up. That console is a treasure trove of memories I made with my now deseased brother. So to me that's break-up worthy. You never know what people attach to their items.

Regarding the 2# story: she reminded me of my ex room-mate. Dude was a 28 y/o huge, tall metal head, with insane amounts of tattooes and piercings and his entire room was FULL of minions. He LOVED minions, I once saw him barefoot and guess what, he had minion-themed socks. He had a minion mug that no one was allowed to drink from. And he was still a very mature, assertive, fun dude. It's very possible to be a mature, lovely grown-up and have an interest that was initially targeted at children, but the audience expanded due to popularity. Adult life is already depressing enough, let's enjoy disney movies, minions and pokemons regardless of our age edit: we get it, Cindy, barefoot means ''no socks''. I ain't editing that, because there are much more important things to focus on lmao

If he was barefoot, how'd you see his socks?

That's... Not someone I would imagine a Minion lover looked like... With how you describe how he looks, somehow I would be less surprised if he were an anime fan that heavily features females and heroines, like Sailor Moon. But everyone has their favorites and interests to nerd at, and I respect them

After I posted the comment I just knew someone would point that tiny mistake up, because of course, but I bet most people have enough brain cells to realize he was simply not wearing shoes😁😁@@TySama0

Haha, it was very interesting to see his entire room covered in minions and yet there was Slayer or Slipknot blasting from his laptop. Quite inspiring tbh, I still have moments when I'm lowkey embarrassed of what makes me happy and I still learn to embrace it and respect my own interests. @@jensennc94

With the smashed PS4 story: I still have my childhood XBOX 360. I’ve had it since 2006, it came with me when I went to college. I spilled a glass of wine in the ports and thought it was done for, but after leaving it on its side for about a month (I was too scared to turn it on) it still works perfectly. It’s been through the majority of my life with me. It’s an almost 20 year old console. My dad taught me how to play video games on that console. There were times when everything in my life was extremely turbulent and distressing, but for those few hours when I could just sit down and play Viva Piñata, I could just exist and be okay. If someone smashed it right in front of me, I don’t know if I could ever speak to them again. I certainly wouldn’t ever trust them again. My heart goes out to that guy.

It’s one of those things where even if you don’t log onto it for months or years at a time, it holds so many memories that the second you boot it back up you will be right where you left off. Genuinely broke my heart.

Oof that Star Citizen story was rough, but not unexpected. I've been playing for 5 years and people really do spend insane amounts on it, myself included. I've spent around 1200 on it. Granted I did all this while single, no shocker there. To spend money that's intended for yourself AND your partner, especially a down payment on a house is absolutely insane.

I’ve been playing the game for a while, haven’t spent any money myself besides the game package it self, but I did win a big ship in a give away and I can 100% understand why people want more and more
