8:47 the computer actually didn't make the best choice here, as this will result in a draw. The best choice would have been top left, because then if the player chooses to place a piece in any of the remaining diagonal spaces, the computer can block it while simultaneously having two open slots for them to win in, resulting in a win for the computer. The move the computer played is an automatic draw, while the move I suggested could result in a win.

If the computer starts in a corner and you go the opposite corner, you've lost because over the course of the next 2 turns, the computer will take the other two corners, with you blocking in the middle on your second turn. You will then have to decide between blocking the diagonal or the row or column (whichever you haven't blocked yet), and the computer takes the other. At least the game is nice and lets you finish the level.

@divVerent2 жыл бұрын
I doubt DGR failed to understand the game - DGR just didn't see the second path to win. Also, I found it a bit surprising that the game does not run to the end. Of course, after three moves the game basically _is_ decided. In fact, I can't seem to find any way to get a "double tic-tac-toe" trap when one already has four pieces on the field - so a player who always responds to direct threats can never lose in the fifth turn (which is the turn completing the entire field).

Noughts and crosses is a solved game, so if both players play to the best of their ability, it’s a draw every time. And it’s significantly easier if you go first, since then you might trick them into a position where you have 2 possible ways to win, so it’s impossible for them to block both

Ultimate ttt strategy. If you’re going first, always go for a corner of the same row or column each of the first two times, and depending on where your opponent puts their mark, put your third mark on a third corner or the middle. Guaranteed win from there. Keep in mind, however, that the strategy for if your opponent goes first isn’t as good, but it’s a guaranteed loss evasion. Always start from the middle out. Block your opponent after their second turn depending on where they mark. Continue blocking until you tie. No win, but no loss either. If I ever come up with a guaranteed win strategy for that situation, I will be sure to edit this comment and let you know.

Dave, I hope you read this... Regarding Tic-Tac-Toe, if both players play perfectly, then it is impossible for either player to win. Because the level forces you to play second, it's already impossible to win, the best outcome you can hope for is a draw. Tic-Tac-Toe is only ever won because your opponent makes a mistake, such as choosing a side space as your first move, rather than a corner or center. If your first move is to pick position 2, 4, 6, or 8, you've already lost.

If the first person goes middle, perfect play will always be a draw. More so, perfect play is pretty basic. Tic tac toe is literally impossible for either player to win unless their opponent makes a mistake. So there is no actual advantage in going first, because whoever does will still only get a draw unless their opponent plays badly.

Tic-tac-toe is what game theorists call a solved game, meaning it has been proven what the result will be with perfect play on both sides. Not only that, but it's a strongly-solved game, which means the result can be correctly predicted from any position. Not only that, but it's such a simple game with so few possible moves that even the average ten-year-old can easily force a draw from either side. If the computer really does play perfectly, you can't win.
