@@toddmoore2324 I agree with you, that price point should include a rosewood fingerboard. For myself, its the poly finish that makes it a no-go. I've owned and played an American Deluxe Stratocaster for almost 30 years, the way the poly finish wears/ages is a huge disappointment. All the lacquer finished guitars I owned just become more beautiful with age. I will say this, for an Epiphone its their best looking Les Paul.

Despite the price, Epiphone using the Gibson headstock on a Les Paul production model for the worldwide market is revolutionary. Some Epiphone Les Pauls made for the Japanese market had those, but never the worldwide market. It’s also confirmed that future collaborations with the Gibson Custom Shop will feature the open book headstock. Hopefully we will see less expensive models using that headstock.

@@anotherstart1based on what? Let's look at a $1000 artist model shall we? The Jared James Nichols. A single pickup p90 - $999. There is the Jerry Cantrell "Wino" at $850 - but that just has standard pickups... but let's start there. The Jerry Cantrell is $850. Does not come with original Gibson Greenybuckers. Does not have a custom headstock. And does not come with a AAA flame veneer. And does not come with switchcraft components, nor the mallory capacitors, nor the long neck tenon. I mean - I don't necessarily think it warrants a $650 premium. But saying it should be less than $1000 makes it cheaper than almost every other major artist guitar on the Epiphone brand - and yet it has more appointments. Is the neck a one piece of three piece? This isn't advertised, but the Joe Bonamassa Epiphone Les Paul which sells for $800 does have a single piece and is also based on a 59' Les Paul, so I'm guessing Gibson/Epiphone would have gone the same route on this... Not much difference here except for the real maple cap and nitro finish on the Gibson branded one... Some people still care where what country the CNC machine lives that cuts the wood and where the fit and finish work is done, for $1500 difference where I get all the USA electronics in the import model, yeah I'll take the Epiphone... and just because most viewers might qualify for a loan to buy the $3100 Gibson version doesn't mean they should. That's a LOT of money for hobbyist to be dropping on any guitar. Even $1500 is a lot of money to ask, considering there are great import options around in the $800-$1000 range like the foremention Bonamassa "Lazurus" Epi.

There’s one value consideration that you didn’t mention: how does it compare to the Gibson USA version that costs more than twice as much? I’m not sure that those features are worth $1,700.
@john564holloway10 ай бұрын
Good point. It's worth it if you just have to have the Gibson name and the tone wood-controversy of the maple vs veneer/Rosewood vs Indian laurel. Otherwise, since this is the very first world-wide Epiphone to have the Gibson headstock, and the case being worth about $150-$200, it's worth $1500.

$1499??? Are they crazy
@tokk3n-hj4xg11 ай бұрын
If I was going to go for an Epiphone I would go with a Epiphone Exclusive 1959 Les Paul Standard for $849.
@adamstrachn11 ай бұрын
Without the humbuckers it would be about $1,000. It also has CTS pots and Mallory (as opposed to orange drop) capacitors with ’50s wiring, a Switchcraft output jack and toggle switch. So it's understandable in today's market, artist model 'tax' and two years of extreme inflation. They still make Epiphone Les Paul options under $700 for the people crying on every post about this guitar.

I would have to play it, the feel test. I love thick necks but can play any neck radius or thickness. The pickups sound good when I heard you play with my headphones on. I think we spend too much time criticizing to much, it all boils down to playing the dam thing lol. Do you want to spend $1500 on it or not. I’m mostly USA line of Gibson and Custom Shop but also liked Epiphones too. I’m sure you can get a 1959 release Epi and buy the Greeny Pups or if you have a boutique pick up maker you would still be ahead of the game. I would still have to play the Epi Greeny to have an option.

Epiphone is just creating a tier of guitars between the inspired by Gibson and actual Gibsons for people who don’t want to make that big of a jump in price to a USA Gibson. Start out on a cheap Epiphone and then move to a Inspired By then a Premium and finally an actual Gibson. We will see how it works out for them. The expensive Epiphone Bonamasa SG doesn’t seem to be doing so well.

Agreed. They're planning on rolling out more of these "Inspired by" Epiphones with the Openbook headstock. They give that treatment to a non signature LP Custom and price it correctly(say $999-1299), and it will sell like hot cakes.

Gibson have you forgotten what Epiphone is? It is your "value" options for those who can't afford your USA signature models. If a few months ago anyone asked if I would feel getting the USA Greenie at $2850 was a "deal" I would have laughed, seeing this well yeah. Getting the Lazarus last year and in 2018 the Slash with actual Seymour Duncans both at $899 (yes, I know they don't have the Gibson correct headstock) are echos of what Gibson has forgotten Epiphone should provide for value. Remember when the Studios and Tributes were the $800 option with case??? Yes, there is inflation and things cost more and labor and... and. Even the first 2 Adam Jones seem possible "deals" for what they are given 800 limited runs. Wake up Gibson you're Epiphone edition should be 1/3 the price of the Gibson or less.

So 2k in CaD. I was considering it thinking it will sell for around 1500 cad. But thats too much. I can buy an actual gibson with that money. Im sure if ever they use the gibson headstock on future release. It will be in this price range

I love my Epiphone '59 LP but wouldn't even consider buying a $1,500 Epiphone Les Paul with a Laurel fretboard. I'm also not excited by that Headstock. The '59 looks so much better.

They just could of NOT used kurts name & sold it cheaper,this will sell w/out paying him thus reducing the cost,because this has the Gibson headstock will make it sell w/out his name

If it was 1,000$ I’d buy it asap, but 1500 and no rosewood, ill pass.

So $700 for the slighty bigger headstock . I have out of phase on my Epi modern. Big whoop
@MiguelAlarconMusic11 ай бұрын
I have been opposed to this release and now finding out it’s a laurel fingerboard, I’m just shocked. This is no different than the 1959 epiphone. The only difference really is the headstock shape. 1500 is 60% to a faded standard Gibson les Paul. Don’t get me wrong I love epiphone I just bought a Jerry Cantrell wino this year and love it. But this is bad, a simple money grab that could push epiphone to doing this more often. Now if this was an EXACT copy of the greenie les paul at 1500 that would be a different story.
@gregdunn604010 ай бұрын
It's closer looking and has features that the $3200 Gibson version I have doesn't like the long neck tenon and 59 profile neck, lol.
@MiguelAlarconMusic10 ай бұрын
@@gregdunn6040 the epiphone 1959 has a long neck tenon and a 50s profile neck so my point stands. It’s the same guitar. Musicians friend is selling a lemon burst epiphone 1959 Les Paul for $749. You could buy the Seymour Duncan custom shop greenie pickups and the cost is still less than the Kirk hammet greenie. It’s a money grab plan and simple.
@gregdunn604010 ай бұрын
@@MiguelAlarconMusic without a doubt money grab, your 59 is closer than the Gibson is too. For the "Greeny" fans the Epi is still a better deal than the Gibson USA version.
