I loved Reeve Carney so much for the naivety in his voice singing the Epics. But there is so much depth in how Jordan sings this. Going between such a tender falsetto that portrays so much hurt as if his Orpheus lived it (like we are hearing him draw parallels from his relationship with Eurydice to Hades and Persephone's relationship) to transition into the belt with such raw, powerful emotion behind it. Watching his face have those realisations in real time, like we can see him reacting to the Muses telling him a story only he can see. I couldn't have jumped on getting tickets to the Australian tour any faster because I can't wait to see it done by Aussies and hear it in my own accent.
@Justin-vw6sv6 ай бұрын
Yeah! Reeve will always be my favorite, and I love how powerful is falsetto is. But damn, I do enjoy how Jordan does this song. When he was first cast I was like "this dude is WAY too cool to portray Opheus well" but wow he proved me wrong.

I saw Reeve Carney in Hadestown NYC a couple of years ago, then saw a new cast in Toronto and I held them to the standard I saw when I watched the NYC cast but in general I think I just love the way different actors bring their own thing to the roles!

Fr - I had seen a **cough** "slime tutorial" with the original cast, listened to the cast recording a just-abouy-countable finite number of times, and saw two different actors play Orpheus in December '23 - the then main guy, sadly didn't remember his name, and an understudy. But after I had heard Jordan in the role here on KZbin, I just knew I *needed* to see him in it... I've seen him twice now. Songs which, I'm sorry to say, left me relatively unmoved ("relative" for Hadestown ;P) as sung by the previous Orpheus actors - Epic III being among them - just completely grabbed me in Jordan's renditions. Several made me cry which didn't before. This man's ability to convey emotion in song is incredible

I saw it live recently and the syncopation was similar in the live production. I think it's more a stylistic choice than a mistake. It's jarring when you know the studio album really well, but I think it helps give the performance more character! It's not as rigid, and it's a nice nod to the folk inspiration/origins of Hadestown, which frequently has a syncopated style like this.

I mean if I js cried hearing this, I imagine I’d be bawling if I got to sit in that theater and see him there onstage being the most amazing, talented person, and role model for me and I bet thousands of others. I’m so proud of how far he’s come and of good of a career he’s had so far, and I can’t wait to watch him continue to go on to even more bright and brilliant things!

La, la, la, la, la, la, la Let him finish, Hades La, la, la, la, la, la And you didn't know how And you didn't know why But you knew that you wanted to take her home You saw her alone there, against the sky It was like she was someone you'd always known It was like you were holding the world when you held her Like yours were the arms that the whole world was in And there were no words for the way that you felt So you opened your mouth and you started to sing La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la And what has become of the heart of that man Now that the man is king? Where is your pleasure? Where is your youth? Where is the man with his arms outstretched?
