Daltos being good at Civ is great to see

He's still a bit too aggressive with his units, especially since Lewis also when Honor and is getting comparatively more stuff from killing Daltos's Horsemen than he gets from Lewis's archers. However, he isn't ramming his units senselessly into Lewis and is keeping them alive. And he's building aggressive roads to facilitate better troop movement, which is great, but he's probably building too many of them too early, given his gold income. Also, he's keeping the war going. After all, what is there to gain from peace here? Being able to trade luxuries and have trade routes. Luxuries he can get from other players and he ain't got trade routes to begin with. Meanwhile he can get Gold Culture and Science when he kills one of Lewis's units, and force Lewis to replace that unit, slowing him down, and getting more experience for his own units. Until Lewis or someone else gives him a good reason to not keep the war going, he's just going to keep plinking away at Lewis and keep looking for opportunities to take a city off him.

Them talking about aggressively spreading religions I thought I'd take a moment to talk about the different "virus religion" options as Daltos put it so well in Lekmod. First I think you should realize in any multiplayer game people are almost never going to let you peacefully spread your religion into their land and prophets and missionaries being so helpless all it takes is one click of even the lowliest scout to stop you spreading. You can try to make a 'honeypot' religion that is really good for everyone and hope one of your neighbors neglected faith and is happy to accept it. Usually you only go for aggressive religion spreading a strategy if you're on a very large map (ie: not this one) so Duncan's initial thought of picking Tithes just kinda made me shake my head as all of these strategies generally rely on there being lots of cities to spread to. The one target that is usually open game even in multiplayer lobbies are the city states. So if you have a lot of city states nearby this can be quite effective if done well. So first thing to remember about making a religion is only you, the founder, get the founder belief bonuses and the enhancer bonuses, however other players will get your pantheon, follower beliefs, and reformation beliefs. When designing the religion you want to be thinking about what path you're going to take next in order to achieve your victory. There's usually four paths: -Honor: using your religion to aggressively expand through military power, -Commerce: using your religion to generate lots of money and buy you way to victory -Aesthetics: using shared religion bonus to get tourism boosts on other players and get a tourism victory -Patronage: convert all the city states to your relgion which makes them like you and stay allied to you longer For the honor route you will likely take beliefs that only benefit you, with Messiah or missionary zeal for a founder (Cheaper prophets or missionaries), Holy warriors for a follower, and Just War (+15% combat bonus near cities following your religion) for enhancer. Your general strategy is to have a prophet or missionary with your front line troops (who you are buying with faith) to convert cities as you siege them giving you a nice combat bonus once you convert them. For the Commerce route you are going to want Tithes (+1 gold from every 4 followers) and religious troubadours (+1 trade route and +3 faith from foreign trade routes) and pretty much any belief that gives gold. You then will aggressively use that gold to build up your cities and buy key city state allies to make your empire stronger and stronger. For Aesthetics you generally want a honey pot religion, one that benefits anyone that willingly converts as well as Houses of Worship. A good focus here is picking perks that don't rely on temples or buying religious buildings as a lot of players won't be building them or have a ton of faith to buy these buildings which means they won't benefit as much from your faith. Instead instant bonuses like Religious community (+1% production for every follower) or Guruship (+2 food, +1 prod and gold for cities with a specialist) are very attractive. Also you may want a more generalized pantheon as well such as Earth Mother (Faith from mines), God of Craftsman (+1 production in every city) or Goddess of Love (+1 happiness in every city over 3 pop). For Patronage You want gold generation to gift to city states but you also want Religious Unity. Combined with the Patronage opener city states resting place will be 65, which means if you spread your religion to them their default attitude towards you will be you Ally, which is absolutely huge. Then you just convert every city state you can and wait for all those sweet sweet city state bonuses to roll in.
