As things calm down a little bit, there's time for some random banter. Everyone's upgrading their cities, or getting new ones - sometimes at the expense of the city-state "friends".

Duncan has to lie because he knows that Lewis will play worse if he thinks he's ahead of Duncan, whereas if Lewis views Duncan as a threat, he'll immediately start prioritizing shitting on Duncan as hard as he can because again, both of them know that there's only one real opponent in these matches. (As much as I enjoy the entertainment and influence the others have on the game, I just don't think they're competitive enough to win without both Lewis and Duncan killing each other)

Man I really wish Kirsty had yield icons on, her capitol would be certified bussin now that she has both Petra and Huey. 5 food and 2 culture from each lake tile, 3 production and 1 food from each of those desert hill tiles, 4 food, 1 production, 1 gold from each oasis! On this small map that's absolutely huge! Today's lesson: The Demographics screen. This screen is certainly important to keep an eye on and can really help you keep track of how well you are doing or how far behind you are but it's also full of incredibly deceiving information. Crop Yield, Manufactured Goods, and GNP are lifted directly from all of your empire's food, hammer, and gold production (note GNP is gross gold production without taking into account gold expenses) and is fairly reliable. Land only counts (as you might expect) owned land tiles and does not count lakes or sea tiles, which can favor inland players over coastal ones. Literacy is mostly reliable but you should remember there are not 100 techs in civ V so it will sometimes round up to increase by 2% per tech instead of 1% so it's not a hard read on exactly how much more tech someone has. Soldiers takes into account unit health, upgrades, and favors melee units over ranged in score so can be misleading as well. But the big one to absolutely not pay attention to is population, as pop calculation goes up exponentially per pop in a city, not per pop in the whole empire. So a single city with 30 pop will be counted as more than double 6 cities with 5 population. Player breakdown: Kirsty: Above the midlanders she continues to hammer out uncontested wonders. Huey is absolutely huge with 4 lake tiles, while the great lighthouse is meh for a non-coastal game. Once again she does not have enough workers, when I looked at her view I could only see three. There are tons of unimproved desert hill tiles around her capitol which, thanks to Petra, could be producing some huge yields. All of them are next to fresh water too so with farms and her having civil service each of those hills could be doing +3 food/+3 production instead of just 3 production, 1 food atm. Rythian: Normally I get extremely angry when Rythian goes exploration as a land civ and then spends all game settling all the islands while ignoring everyone else. In his current situation though, it's actually the right thing to do if he wants to expand. All of his settles outside his capitol have been coastal and if he hadn't thrown away wave after wave of his own men at Duncan early on he probably could have had a third coastal settle on the mainland easily. From what I've seen from his perspective there appears to be hints of islands around his territory but he hasn't really properly explored them yet. We'll see how it goes and if he runs into the dangers of over expansion slowing your game down. Duncan: So the Dali Llama has the ability to settle because originally in Lekmod Tibet could only settle new cities through their great prophets. It was a clunky mechanic that got phased out but the settle city option still remains for the unit. But why would you settle a city that any old settler could do instead of clicking the button that gives you a golden age? I don't think he understands just how big of a deal golden ages are and that this is one of the biggest buffs Tibet gives. Duncan's faith production is still very much nothing special at only +30. Bourbador is almost a criminal waste of hammers (you usually only build it if you have 7+ cities and low faith production) but maybe Daltos will let him send all those missionaries his way. Lewis: He is starting to realize how far behind he is in this game. Going Egypt and not building many wonders, and getting Notre Dame (when he is currently not struggling with happiness) over education have the potential to really pull him behind. If he was ruthless, there is a great way to catch up to the north of him if he ever decides he wants some really nice wonders Daltos: We don't really see much of Daltos's view this episode but it appears to me he's going crossbows before unis. I don't know if he intends to attack someone or if it's just the perceived threat of being next to Lewis. His production focused path has caused him to start to fall behind a bit on tech and he could overcome it by getting universities up quickly but I think he's still focused on war first, school second. At least of all the players that went honor he seems to be actively searching for ways to farm units to keep getting his bonuses, setting up shop on the islands to farm barbs. Will be interesting to see if Rythian's island ambitions start to interfere with that. We do see that on the demo screen he is leading crop yield, which to me is the most important one for most of the game. So there's still potential he's on a good trajectory to catch up to the Zulu nerds.

TLDR : Demographics Screen Analysis: Important Metrics: Crop Yield, Manufactured Goods, and GNP are reliable as they directly reflect food, hammer, and gold production. However, GNP does not account for expenses. Land: Only considers owned land tiles, excluding lakes or sea tiles, which benefits inland players. Literacy: Generally reliable but can be misleading due to rounding. Soldiers: Can be misleading as it includes unit health and upgrades, favoring melee units. Population: Misleading due to exponential calculation per city rather than empire-wide. followed by a per player breakdown.

You'd think more games would let everyone build them, but you just get an extra bonus benefit if you built the very first one, or something Would make way more sense for it to work that way So like, let's say its one where you get a granary in every city. Everyone gets that if they build it. But the person who built it first gets an extra food bonus in the city it was built in or something
