It took them this long to realise Rythian had already improved the stranded coconut in the first couple episodes. Duncan really needed/needs to attack Rythian to catch up, admittedly there's the risk of Lewis or Daltos attacking him then in the back.

Nobody is going to attack Rythian. I swear there's some sort of unspoken gentlemen's agreement. In exchange for editing the Civ videos, they let Rythian play in peaceful mode.

Alright! I call shenanigans! At turn 143 from Duncan's view we see very clearly that the isolated coconut tile only is producing 4 food and 2 gold, then suddenly two turns later it's now magically producing 4 food and 2 gold. No worker ever visited the tile. What foul magics did Rythian employ to magically improve the tile? Seems he's just as confused as me on this subject, suspicious, very suspicious. (edit: Yes it was grocer and fertilizer buffing it. But I thought it was funny that Rythian just now notices it) As players are entering the industrial era and starting to pick their ideologies I wanted to take a brief moment to discuss them and the general strategy around each. If you want to short version here’s the very simple rule of thumb: If you have a few big cities and only want a few big cities you pick Freedom. If you have lots of cities (or plan to settle lots of cities) you pick Order. If you want your neighbor’s cities you pick Autocracy. Each ideology has a handful of builds that puts together several policies that synergize very well if you know what you’re after. In each player recap I will go over what ideology and and policies I think each player should get to best improve their current position in the game. Kirsty: Kirsty's tech lead is finally gone as Daltos has now tied her for tech lead and Lewis's tech output now far exceeds hers. Her neighbors all continue to line massive armies on each other's borders and war seems inevitable, a war that, she has pretty much no reason to get involved in and would help her immensely if she just sat back and kept building. With cities of 14, 20, and 30 population Freedom is the obvious choice for her here. Specifically she wants as many specialist bonuses she can get with: Civil Society (specialists consume half food), Avant Garde (+25% great person generation), Universal Suffrage (50% less unhappiness from specialists), Universal Healthcare (bonuses to hospitals and medical labs), and Treaty Organization (+1 production and gold from specialists). If she can combine this with the rationalism policy of Secularism (+2 science from specialists) and focus on working every specialist slot in every city she could potentially keep up with everyone else on science. From there it's up to her to decide if she wants to persue military intervention in the south or just go to space and leave everyone behind. Rythian: We *finally* see Rythian settle his second island. He now has colonization which gives a decent buff to settling cities and he has suspiciously somehow improved that coconut tile. Thanks to treasure fleets and their big boon he has passed Duncan as last place in a lot of demographics and is researching industrialization, so he's got that at least. Rythian is in a prime spot to go for an Order mass expansion build as there are still so many open islands in the world and he has the full navigation tree which makes each city he founds even better. Resettlements combined with colonization means each city will start with 7 pop, have a free happiness building, as well as workshop, granary, monument, library, and aqueduct. Socialist Realism will make all those monuments produce +2 happiness which will help him keep his empire happy while expanding, and party leadership (+2 food, gold, +1 production, and +1 science per city) can be useful if he reaches at least 10 cities. Workers Faculties (+25% science for cities with factories) is a must have for any order player and then five year plan (production for cities and mines) followed by Iron curtain (+10 food/production per trade route) to get all his cities built up faster and harder. A build like that would normally leave you quite vulnerable right at the cav/arty/frigates stage of the game and is a risky move but as his primary competition on the seas of Lewis is being distracted elsewhere he could probably get away with it. Duncan runs into one of the small problems with Tibet and any civ with special tile improvements on hills: Less likely to get coal at industrialization. There was a coal on a hill by his capitol that had he built a mine on it like any other civ would he'd have coal immediately. Instead the monks there happily pray and produce faith and culture instead of smoke belching burnable rocks. Only having a few cities it might be easy to advise Duncan to go freedom but that is very much a losing choice. Freedom is only something someone with the luxury of being ahead can do to keep ahead, he needs desperately to catch up and the best way to do that is with Autocracy. He desperately needs Industrial Espionage (double spy steal rate) to catch up and stay relevant in tech, and there are several policies to buff his military (which I'll go into more with Daltos). But he can also sneakily go for a tourism victory with Futurism (250 tourism per spawned great musician, artist, or writer), nationalism (+10% tourism from barracks, armories, and mil academies) and Cult of personality (up to +100% more tourism depending on your military strength compared to other civs). His special improvement will produce +3 culture per tile at flight and if he gets hotels and airports he can convert that culture output into tourism. Likewise as piety and producing a lot of faith he can pray a writer, artist, and a musician into existence giving him a instant boost to tourism. Combined with his leaning tower he should also continue to produce a lot more of them throughout the rest of the game if he ever builds his guilds which means he could suddenly and quickly produce a lot of tourism nobody expects. Lewis: I was very happy to see Lewis convert his caravans into cargo ships this episode. That's a very wise move and helps him build up his coastal cities much more effectively. We see him send hammers to his islands to get them building much faster, a great move on his part. However, we also see in this episode how going navigation has him very much behind in military technology. But with public schools up already and factories soon to follow Lewis is poised to start running away with the game if nobody attacks him soon. Lewis is the only player in the unique position to benefit from Order immediately but he also has an autocracy player on his border. If I were him I would still go order but doing so you (should) kill any player around you that picks autocracy or else you're opening yourself up to lose badly when they reach the tier 3 autocracy. He should definitely take patriotic war first (which hurts you on other things but keeps you safe now). to get a +15% bonus fighting in his own territory. Otherwise focus on happiness and science policies like Young Pioneers, Socialist Realism, Worker's Faculties, and People's Army. If you want to go to space Spaceflight Pioneers (free great scientist, great engineer, and can finish spacehsip parts with engineers) is fantastic for tier 3, otherwise iron curtain for better trades. Daltos *FINALLY* gets factories up in his cities and is the first to an ideology. He immediately slams autocracy and is definitely the right thing to do. While he has tied Kirsty on tech he is definitely behind in a lot of key factors to Lewis and if he had any sense he would be attacking immediately. He has a tech advantage, his unique unit, and has calvary and artillery facing up against Lewis's muskets and trebuchets. His capitol can produce a calvary a turn and this momentary advantage will not last. As an Autocracy player with better units the key play here is to buff your units even more and make conquest as easy as possible. Elite forces makes every unit 10% stronger and heals faster, mobilization lets you buy units cheaper, Facism gives a flat +12 happiness which helps when you lose all your luxury trades in a war, Total War (+25% production to mil units and they get +15 XP when built), and Clausewitz's Legacy (+25% attack bonus to all military units for 50 turns). All combined together with the flat bonuses to strength and the extra promotions and your army is basically twice as effective as any other player's

Rythian completes the building of a Grocer right before the cocount changes to a 5* (not 6) food. The Grocer gives an additional 1 food output to a number of food resources, including coconut.

His father William the silent, also Prince of Orange, is considered father of the fatherland since he founded the Dutch royal family and started the 80 year war that led to Dutch independance from Spain. Oxford is a national wonder and not a world wonder, and considering it gives a free tech it's best to wait with constructing it to get the maximum value out of it.

Build it now for fertilizer: spend 4 turns of production to get 3 turns of science (and get fertilizer 4 turns earlier) Build it later for nuclear missiles: spend 1 turn of production to get 7 turns of science (and also get nukes 7 turns earlier) One of these is way better.
