Ah Marrakesh! It's very much a bazaar game! lots of shiny things but nothing that actually focuses you on a path. The tower was the biggest let down, it could have provided a fascinating concondrum but would require to be able to hold keshis better, which could also lead into 4th player problem of not getting keshis you need the whole game. It's cool but the size of the box, the price tag and the amount of manusha you might need to deal with makes it a collectors game not gamers game

I have the essential edition, and the tower works great! Also a normal box size, better price point…I think it’s a great edition.

The tower can be tweaked to work very well. If your tower is under-performing, please don't give up! Try flipping the top panel "A" upside down so the surface is not glossy and the edges are CRISP rather than sloping/curving down. Also, by flipping panel "A" upside down you should get more interference with bottom panel "B". Some people have also resorted to placing a layer of removal tape to decrease the openings ever so slightly. I agree for the price point paid, the tower should be golden "out of the gate". I think the game is fantastic. It provides lots of replayability, and the entire system is so well thought out and unique at the same time. Feld hit a home run with Marrakesh IMO, but everyone's opinions are different. I don't find the downtime that big of a deal. It's about the same as Macao, Bora Bora, and Castles of Burgundy. I think YMMV with more experienced players making their turns a bit faster. Ready Steady Play does have a valid point about the super high cost of this game. Bonfire is a VERY good game! The Druid theme is a little strange, but I embrace it for its whimsical fantasy. It helps set it apart from typical Euros. After a string of somewhat mediocre releases from Feld, it was quite refreshing to experience Bonfire - even though I personally enjoy Marrakesh a little more. I feel both releases harkens back to his solid designs during his "hey day" 10-15 years ago. Macao, Bora Bora, and Castles of Burgundy are my personal favorites and Marrakesh feels like it belongs right along side of them. Bonfire is ALMOST top tier Feld for me, and could possibly land there with more repeat plays. This game does not have the initiative track to compete for, which was quite surprising since this system was present in one of his earliest titles (Year of the Dragon), and has been used extensively well in some of his best designs. But given the way the Keshi draft works, it makes more sense to have a clockwise order system over an initiative battle. I do wish I had the wooden gates, but couldn't justify the even higher price tag.
