We're just watching a major landscape change in sports media. Players have always had to rely on the media to get a message out there and now they have access to their audience themselves. Plus, a lot of players have beef with the media because of their narratives so the players want to take their voice back. I respect that. But if a media member decided to play in the NFL and they were an exceptional player, and they got a bunch of media guys to play in the League too the football players would feel a way. They grinded to the league and now they're just letting dudes play the game just because they know how to talk about it. Its all perception, nobody's wrong everybody just figuring out the changes

Bulletin board material is not about what the other team can use against you. Highly unlikely some team is planning to give 70% effort and is now going to give 100% effort because some guy on the other team said something in the week leading up to the game. The reason you don't say stupid stuff leading up to the game is because of the potential impact on your own team. Team sports is about team focus. People asking you and your coaches and your teammates about stuff that has nothing to do with the game is a potential distraction. Now you have to trust that they are able to navigate that distraction and maintain focus. Some will. Some might not. That's just human nature. Not everyone is savvy or even comfortable in front of the media, and now you've got other guys saying stuff in defense of your comments and it becomes a thing the whole team has to deal with. And if you start saying stuff that gives away how you strategize in the game, or give the other team tips about your tendencies, now you're really putting distractions out there for your team to address. Especially, if it looks like the opponent used that info in-game. I'm not saying players shouldn't have podcasts, just make sure you're not putting stuff out there that can become a distraction for your own team. Not everyone is built for media, especially as a side hustle while they're still playing.
@marcelluswileydatdudeАй бұрын
Great points! Keeping team focus is key, and media distractions can really complicate things. It’s a balancing act for sure.

I think players podcast has dilluted it a lot... specially from active players; and players (or former players) with resources ($$$) that don't educate themselves more in the craft of communication, speech, overall knowledge (history of the sport/s and different perspectives in life). Barbershop started the trend regarding the player controled channels (never liked it), Sherman is a bright mind and tremendous communicator, Arenas... is all over the place, Paul George with guests less than 35 years old speaking like wisemen, Lebron-Reddik was sweet, All the Smoke just want believe that previous eras were the best, Cam Newton needs to read more... he has perpectives that are not challenged, anything with Ryan Clark is unbereable...

Player podcasts are not ruining sports. This is pushback from old media. People don't have to listen to podcasts. People listen to podcasts like this one because of the content and context that one doesn't get anywhere else. Current player podcasts like Micah Parsons only remain relevant if he continues to ball and have something relevant to talk about. The old guard is not used to people clapping back. Old media had to go to journalism school....podcasts don't and are making more $.

Salty because these athletes didn't have to go to journalism school, work through radio, and make more $ than them. The cream rises to the top of podcasts. This is an old issue.
