Of course Sabonis, Stojakovic, Divac, Kukoc, etc all played similar as eastern Europe forwards and centers, esp those outside of sabonis being from the former Yugoslavia where they all played together on the same teams. In Tickets defense, if Jokic were playing in another era he would not have the same amount of opportunities to showcase his passing ability and thus you wouldn't rank him as high as a passer. He didnt argue it right but I believe that what he was trying to say. Jokic basically a point center which didnt exsist even 10 years ago in the league. Kareem spoke about this recently when Giannis broke his Milwaukee scoring record. He said coach would pull you if you got the rebound and didnt pass it to the point guard. Kareem was saying he would have loved to get the ball and go coast to coast. In a similar manner passing is the same. Heck even Jokic stands at the top of the key a lot, which centers didnt do at all even 20 years ago.

The thing is, Jokic earned his right to be the main playmaker in the team, since the coaches figured out they have a great playmaker with point guard mindset with Jokic... It's not an era thing, but mostly his talent coming to fruition... Yes he may not average 10 assist per game, since other coaches from his era would askim to shoot more and go for 30 points every game, but he would probably be amongst the best passers in any era as well. He would probably average what he did past few seasons like 7 or 8 assists... Which is still a lot for his position...

What are we talking about? No big besides maybe Sabonis could pass like Jokic but even he is not comparable because he did it on lower volume and against comp that is not close to what Jokic faces. They all could make solid passes but they were not making passes on the level or at the volume that Jokic does. Jokic is the reason that the majority of his teammates are having their most efficient seasons. I understand if you were to say that given more spacing in todays game they would average more assists but that doesn't make them better passers. Jokic in any era would be able to make the same level of passes it would just be from the post and in lower volume.

We can say these things based off of the people we have seen before in the past and compare them, INDIVIDUALLY, to Jokic instead of saying “he was in this era so ofc he’s going to do x y and z” like we don’t know at all what he would’ve done in a different era but we know (knowing and hypothesizing are two different things) what Jokic has done compared to what Sabonis has done and make a rational statement that Jokic is a better passer; that shit is stupid to keep saying “if this” “if that”, literally does nothing. If you have Sabonis ahead of Jokic, that is fine however, do not disregard or disrespect what Jokic is as a passer and how effectively he passes the ball.

Go look at the FG% of Jokic’s teammates with the Nuggets and before/after they are with the Nuggets. Pretty much every single player sees a dramatic dip in efficiency. Aaron Gordon, KCP, Will Barton, Monte Morris, etc. What Jokic does to create easy buckets is unparalleled. Fuckin Chris Webber or Vlade Divac never came close to elevating their teammates the way that Jokic does.
