I was fortunate to have worked on Playhouse 90 from the beginning. I was in the special effects department at T V City and my one claim to fame in Hollywood was that I created the large star used in the opening.

That is such a cool story! Was the star actually a physical thing? I have to imagine that what existed of video graphics was still quite primitive back then.

You created this thing? Wow! You deserve an award for this. Beautiful! As an aside, a personal Christmas memory: we had a tree crowning ornament that resembled that star almost exactly when I was very young. Every time I looked at it, I thought of Playhouse 90. It's a pleasure and an honor to tell this to the very person who created and built this iconic symbol. Thanks for the memories.

Thank you a thousand times over for the intro to CBS Playhouse 90. What a treasure this is. Love the reruns on KZbin. A classic reminder of how great TV was during the Golden Age period of the medium. And an excellent learning tool for those not old enough to remember these shows.

This was a special one hour & 30 minutes. I'd always put aside whatever I was doing to see these great LIVE dramatic shows. Loved that intro - there was something magical to it. Thanx for telling me they're on DVD - haven't come across any yet.

I have the same feeling about the 70's ABC Movie of the Week intro. I can see how you appreciate it this, it seems so classy.

PBS was formerly "National Educational Television"; their original mission was "educational programming", and eventually provide other kinds of programming the broadcast networks weren't doing in the '60s and '70s. CBS revived "PLAYHOUSE 90" as "CBS PLAYHOUSE" in 1966. Over the next four years, they presented a series of 90 minute taped drama specials that equaled what the original series had done. Today, CBS is "profit-driven"- and has no aspersions to produce another anthology series like it.

Nah-- my one time seeing it was at the Museum of Film & Television in NY. I viewed a kinescope from the first season- which included the commercials and station ID. I didn't know what it was at first, 'cause the starry images could've just as easily been from a science documentary. But then that Alex North fanfare booms with the P90 rushing at the camera, OMG!! When television shows were events.

Actually, 'priest', CBS Television City was about four years old when "PLAYHOUSE 90" began originating from there. It was scheduled on Thursday nights at 9:30pm(et). Rod Serling didn't write any "science fiction" or "fantasy" scripts during his tenure with the series, 'onn', but when he produced six episodes of "THE TWILIGHT ZONE" on videotape at Television City during the 1960-'61 season, they tended to LOOK like half-hour versions of "PLAYHOUSE 90"...

This title "Playhouse 90" is my own production company named after the CBS show from 1956-61. I called it Playhouse 90 Productions, a take off of Cinemassacre.

This is gorgeous. Been looking for these credits for a long time. I think there's even a slightly longer version of this animation, with a pan through the starry sky before resting on the twirling star which comes forward. How did you find this? It looks restored.
