Thank you Jeremy ! Clear and to the point, as usual ! Everybody fantasizes about Bill Evans chords when the melody is just as important…

This is a true revelation for me. I love Bill Evans, as so many people do, but sadly I don't play the piano. I am an accordionist, and we simply cannot obtain this kind of harmonic detail on the squeezebox, as we affectionately call our torture machine. You are a true poet in your soul- that an be sensed in an instant, and that's what touched me in this video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your own art. This world needs more people like you. God bless. Greetings from France.

Thanks Jeremy - it's very similar to how I naturally play - encouraging to know that it's similar to Bill Evans style - who knew 😄

Thanks for yet another awesome video. It's so great to hear (and now see even better) the music from your awesome books. Question: what is this new software you use? Is it an ios app or what?

This is using the chordie app. I’m using it alongside the one piano hi-lite bar

This is interesting in that the right hand is doing some harmonizing below the melody, while the left hand is playing the entire chord with the "8th note ballad style" rhythm going on in the thumb of the left hand. Frankly, as much as I love Bill, I think the standard shared hands voicings give you more color tones for harmony and in some ways sound better than the Evans style you are demonstrating. The shared hands ballads seem more "connected," while this Evans style separates the chord from the partially harmonized melody in the right hand. What do you think?
@JeremySiskind Жыл бұрын
Well first of all I think you made a very sophisticated comment. I think your observations are good, but I wouldn’t limit yourself! Exploring different textures is going to give you more overall options. Maybe this isn’t your favorite style. It sure sounds good when Bill does it, though! 😉

@@JeremySiskind Thanks for listening! Of course pretty much everything Bill did was amazing. I think I could learn from his melodic style and try to incorporate it into the two handed shared voicings. Not to belabor the point, but Bill had very large hands and fabulous touch, so when he played the entire chord in his left hand (non-shared), he could emphasize different notes, textures, and inner voices just within the left hand alone. Real genius.

I didn’t change anything about the audio, but I’ll take it! I have been trying to remember to keep the mic closer to my face lately.
