From 7 inches to 120 inches, how good can the Switch possibly look when it's that big? Can you even play games on a projector with all of that input lag? Let's take a look at the BenQ TH671ST projector and see if it's worth the price.

I game on a projector, it's 5 years old and handles the switch really well. My excuse for not using a dedicated monitor is because my family watched movies on the projector and playing games on the big screen is just so much more satisfying.

Even 480p videos up scaled to 4k on the LG looks great. Been trying the 4k oled in gaming but my GTX 1080 even at 2164mhz can't seem to keep 60 fps. But god do the games look good in OLED 4k.

I am particularly interested in a monitor for the Switch. - I think that OLED would have the lowest input lag. Higher refresh proabably doesnt help. Switch is NVidia so... GSync? I think there is a lot here to consider.

I have a Mitsubishi projector I got in like 2009 (for much more than 800 dollars lol), and since I got it that was almost all I played games on. I project it onto an 11.5ft screen from some decent white fabric, turn the lights down off, and it is pure magic. Never had an issue with input lag or off colors. Putting the projector parallel to the screen helps too (hanging from a ceiling mount). One of the first things I did when I got a Switch was play Mariokart 8 Deluxe on it (never owned a Wii U, so this is my first HD Nintendo console), and that is one of my favorite gaming memories now. The games look so good, be they 1080, 900, or 720p. Great to have such a large screen for having friends over and playing splitscreen too!

Ok, I'm three years late, but still, maybe this helps someone. I've been using projectors for about 20 years now (the first one was *very* dark and 800x600 pixels, but we lived in DVD and VHS resolution back then, anyway...) mainly for home cinema purposes. But if you _do_ have your apartment set up to use a projector, anyway, _of course_ you'll want to play Mario on that big screen. And with a projector that can do 1080p/60Hz (and nothing more, because then you lose brightness, mainly - or a lot of money), I only have to roll down the shutters on _very_ bright daylight. Basically everything's fine from November through February at any time of the day where I live. It's a five year old Epson, and I'm sure current Full HD projectors for less than a 1000$ should be fine for bright daylight by now as well. For the Switch, which doesn't go above 1080p, anyway, that's perfection imho.

I have the BenQ with a 100" screen for my game room. All under 1G, pretty simple install. I don't notice any lag, and the picture is really great. The projector hangs on the ceiling and I put in an outlet next to it. I ran the cables through the wall and above the ceiling. I also have the surround sound that makes it all feel cinematic. Totally recommend it.

The rated refresh on most monitors are actually higher than they say it is. I can't remember what but I think the response time is just the delay on updating the panel, it doesnt take into account the lag from the input driver. Wendell on Level1Techs has done a lot of refresh rate testing and has shown that a monitor that advertises 2ms is actually closer to 6-12ms.

Hey man. Great Video. I have been using the BenQ w1070 for my pc and consoles for nearly 4 years now. Absolutely love it. I use a 90inch screen, i have run it in eco mode since new, I can game with the blinds up and a moderate amount of light coming in, I have over 4500 hours on the original globe and its still going strong. I was so glad i went the projector route over a more expensive, smaller screen. Even retro stuff looks decent on it. I totally agree with what you have said on here. Anyone who has toyed with the idea, Seriously try it, You wont regret it.

Awsome video, awsome projector, awsome switch, and as always, awsome wulff. Btw wulff, the limited color range default is not a fault with the nintendo switch itself, but with HDMI, you always have to do the same with computers when connecting from HDMI, but when you use DVI or display port it generally defaults to full color range

I have a BenQ projector. It's great. It's lasted me almost a decade, they're pretty robust. I mainly use it for watching movies, but occasionally for certain games. It's awesome to play on a huge stonkin' screen, but for games where the camera moves a lot, you can pretty easily get motion-sickness, so that's something to keep in mind. The bulbs have to be replaced too and they're pretty pricey, though I actually haven't had to change mine since I got it, so it depends on how much you use it I guess. It can also be a bit of work to find a good placement for the projector, and to get it set up with your sound system. Staring into the bulb can also be dangerous for your eyes I think, so you have to be careful with kids or pets. They're great for portability though, and they don't take up much room either, so that's a plus.

I actually purchased two projectors (one from Amazon and one from eBay); however, I returned the one I got from Amazon (seemed too dim for my liking). The one from eBay was noticeably brighter, which made the colors seem more accurate. I still gotta figure out how to fix the trapezoid effect you had mentioned in the video. I can't remember if I tested my Switch on this projector, but I hooked up my PS4 and surprisingly it looks great. My PS3 on the other hand, not the best quality (referring to pixels). Might have to hook up my Switch and see how it works out. (Note: I did connect my Switch to the Amazon projector, but when playing Splatoon 2 or LOZ:BOTW I noticed some drops in frame.) Overall I mainly use mine to stream some videos or movies through my Chromecast or PS3, but like I said I might have to give the Switch another try on the big screen. Great video by the way! 👍

What I use is a really small projector and one the really small 3rd party docks, and it all fits in my case cables and all, I even have a small battery pack in there too that over doubles that battery life. It's the butterfox large model that can fit the ac adapter easily, so it might not work in other cases, but it all fits in mine, and it is amazing for travel! I would never use it for home use though, unless maybe if the TV was being used. One great thing though is I can point it at the ceiling and play in bed or something, other than that I would not use a projector for gaming.

yea..Ive had a few projectors, the entry level BenQ, Sony Bravia, then LED revolution of Qumi, LG..now ultra short throw..bingo. you must the patience to align it once on your wall, get the contrast & sharpness right, & you'll never go back to regular tv limitations again. especially these LED lamps, they last forever, & if your wall is the right color..i went w/ Glidden 'silver screen'..it will look like your wall is a huge tv or theater itself. can't go back. now, I am over 16:9 ratio, so I do have 21:9, 32:9 & VR setups, but as a tv, & especially for Switch, its so good.

Bob, sorry to say it, but your monitor doesn't truly have an input lag reading of ~2ms. :( Technically, only the upper portion of your monitor has this amount of input lag, the centre will be around ~10ms and the bottom, ~18ms. Your monitor has an actual average input lag of ~10ms (which is still excellent, my TN 1ms response time panel has the same average input lag). There is yet to be a monitor released with an input lag lower than 9ms. A projector with an input lag of ~17ms is actually damn excellent, that's 0.017 of a second and 99.9% of people won't notice the difference between 10ms and 15ms, hence you didn't. :)

Thomas Nice! Which projector were you looking at? Just make sure that the 16ms is the average input latency and not for the first line of pixels. If it is a 16ms average though, it's pretty good and you shouldn't notice any input lag. :)
@sameerkhatri588
@sameerkhatri588 6 жыл бұрын
There is a difference between input lag and response time. You and he don't know what your talking about. The 1ms response time for your monitor is accurate but that's for RESPONSE time not input lag.

I've played MMOs for years now and through that just prefer a monitor for gaming. Less eye movement and it usually makes the game more enjoyable due to the higher ppi, refresh rate, and faster input.

For me, being severely vision impaired, a 32" LCD TV is the biggest I ever want to game on a console. I find smaller the better as I still have to sit very close to see what's going on. So sitting 1-2 feet from a 23-27" monitor is far more accessible for me to see the finer details on the screen. Higher pixel density, low response rate and deeper colours trump size every single time. I have a 70" 1080 LCD Sharp TV but I never play games on it, too much lag. and pixel density is terrible.

I tried DLP projector, the color shift killed it for me. I had to get an LCD projector instead. We play switch, PS4, PC and mostly use it for movies. With that said, we don't use it all that much since we have a 60" tv that still looks better that sits behind the drop down 120" screen for the projector.

How about split screen multiplayer? Seems like that would be ideal for MK8/Rocket League

If they said it has 16.7ms then they're claiming it has no input lag because if your 60hz screen is perfect it will have 16.7ms of lag roughly since that's the time it takes to see a frame at 60fps! So that stat was bs. The input lag added by the electronics in the project would be much less than that actually (so its even better than what it stated) :) Looks awesome to play switch on

Playing ARMS or Mario Kart on a 100+ inch screen is amazingly immersive, particularly when playing with friends. Would I want to do all my gaming on my home theater set up? Probably not. But some games work really well in super size. Speaking of home theater, how does the BenQ projector work for movies?

I use a short throw projector on my switch and it's perfect for things like mario kart and other 4 player games. But yea, not gonna be great for everyone.
