I hope your realise what a good position your channel is in right now. You've captured the algorithm - from the comments it seems like you've managed to bring in a bunch of single player watchers, myself included. I've already binged most of your content, so I'd say you need to make sure you don't rest on your laurels -> continue with the stuff like this, alongside the full gameplays, they are great. I would also try to get a good tempo on the spotlights, there's plenty more civs to do, and you obviously know enough to give good commentary. On top of that, I'd integrate some more single play vs multiplayer comparisons -> which wonders have the biggest differential: "these wonders *suck* on deity but are *godlike* online" etc. You've also got space for more tierlists: wonders, districts, policy cards, governments etc. Each of which can grow the BBG playerbase and your own brand. I'm rooting for you. The talent and video-making skills are there, just keep on the gas and everything will be golden. I look forward to seeing where you go from here.

The Crees weakness is that their cities can get so big and productive that you might lose yields from amenities and you have no real win condition in mind as a civ bias. Which are barely even weaknesses...They are so good and it takes playing them or seeing it executed to understand.

Somewhat worth noting that BBG buffs internals by making Magnus provide +2 production on them (to the city he's established in obv.). Still very good with the Cree but worth pointing out that internals are specifically buffed in BBG in order to make this playstyle better.

Hey there Herson, I just started watching you when you released your civ 6 multiplayer 101 video. So far I've binged all of your guides and I'm watching your tier list with chillin and zelphair after this video. As well as watching your spotlights and using your un-edited games to sleep. I guess that makes me a Herson glazer I've been hearing about? I'm really interested in getting into multiplayer civ 6 specifically CPL, but I feel like I'll just be irrelevant in most of my games starting out (I only have like 400 hours in civ 6, but have beaten diety ai as multiple civs with all of the victory conditions). Is it possible to practice build orders/decision making with BBG mods in single player games to get a feel for how a civ plays? Or should I just suck it up and join multiplayer games, get destroyed and cry myself to sleep?

@HersonCiv4 ай бұрын
If you had asked me a couple weeks ago, I may have told you that you should probably practice with BBG a bit in singleplayer first to get a feel for it. However, CPL has sort of been overrun with new players recently, so it should be pretty easy to find a multiplayer novice lobby that can ease you into the game. There's no need to wait, you can just join and start playing whenever you feel like it.

Perhaps. Honestly, religious civs have been fairly under-represented on this channel in general, so I figure I ought to prioritize playing some of them in the near future. An alarming number of new viewers seem to think that every civ necessarily opens with the governor Magnus and rushes commercial hubs/harbors, which isn't actually the case.

Herston couple of questions I was hoping you could address (video ideas???) I notice you barely ever build farms, why is that? Is it worth chopping food resources or only production resources? What eurekas are worth doing and what ones are a waste of time? (eg is it worth making 3 mines or 6 farms?) How do you decide on whether to go for an early campus vs waiting for discounted other districts? Is a religion victory ever possible or reasonable? What to be wary of when you see other specific civs in the game and how to counter? Is early game wars ever worth it? What should gold go to at different points in time? Builders, Traders, Monuments, etc Btw loving the content, super bingeable.

How do you get such high production bonus on the internal traderoutes? Magnus gives food, Cree gives food, but cant find out where you get that high +5 production bonus?
@HersonCiv2 ай бұрын
Magnus also gave +2 production on trade routes to his city in the version of the Better Balanced Game mod this video was played with (it's since been reduced to +1). Commercial Hub and Gov Plaza both give +1 prod to all trade routes sent to the city they're in (this is the unmodded behavior as well), so 1 base + 2 from magnus + 2 from districts = 5 prod trade routes early.

Is the choice to preserve flat woods tiles for lumber camps a typical decision, a Cree specific thing, or a grasslands specific thing? I.e. would I equally do that for any other civ that needs production, or was it an unusual choice you made because of the situation?
@HersonCiv4 ай бұрын
It's a normal choice you'd make in any game where you have a city with particularly flat land. If a city has like 8 hills? No need to preserve the flat woods, you can chop away. However, if a city only has 2-3 hills, you ought to consider lumber-milling the flat tiles in order to ensure it has good production going forward. Really, it's just a matter of making sure you don't end up with a city that has 10 population and only like 4 decent workable tiles.
@TheDarkThing04 ай бұрын
you know this has raised a question I had where do nukes and thermo nukes fit into wars? I assume they are not used often because the counter to them is, (at the pace of MP) really easy to get, but at the same time a surprise nuke seems like a great way to slow a science victory
@codetime014 ай бұрын
The only true counter to nukes is gdrs. It is usually quite hard to defend them as you need either modern naval units or sams in every city and even then nukes can go through with enough war bonus. On Aztec specifically, if you have enough luxes, nukes will go through any defense other than gdr

Never played competitive multiplayer before, just cooperative with my friend. Been a bit interested in BBG though. Watched a few of your guides, and I have to ask, how do you deal with Barbarians? The build order you recommend (scout scout settler builder) doesn't really seem to be able to deal with them, and I saw that they aren't disabled in your games.
@HersonCiv4 ай бұрын
Barbarians are toned down a bit in CPL FFA lobbies, as we play with them set to "civilized". This reduces the number of them that spawns and limits them to only producing melee and ranged units in the ancient era - no cavalry.
@zester0004 ай бұрын
Hey Herson, is Temple of Artemis good for Cree? I noticed you didn't mention it in the video, and on surface level, it seems to synergize perfectly with them. Just curious.
@HersonCiv4 ай бұрын
Yes, it can be great on Cree. I just didn't have a good spawn to go for it in my capital here, and there's no way I could ever get it in my second city with Canada in the game, since that civ conventionally always rushes for Artemis in their capital. In games where you do want to go for Temple of Artemis, I'd still recommend going commercial hubs first, and then going for Artemis with some quick Magnus chops around ~turn 30. Rushing it right away with a 2-city opener is technically viable if you succeed in getting the wonder, but is extremely punishing if you miss it.
@zester0004 ай бұрын
@@HersonCiv Knowing that Canada was in the game changes everything. Yeah, big risk trying for it under those circumstances. Shame they were though- it could have been MASSIVE in your second city. Thanks for the build info, and thanks for your content. I'm a single player person who had been playing with BBG before I adopted some of these meta strategies, and now I'm doing better than I ever have. I don't know if I'll ever take the plunge into FFA, but I can tell you that these vids are fascinating and a great way to highlight the benefits of BBG. It's very appreciated, so keep it up! :))

I've really been enjoying these videos even though I'm unlikely to hop into multiplayer games myself. Perhaps at some point - I really *really* hate cheating AI in general. Quick question, though. You mention these games are played with worldgen set to new. Why's that? Is it a balance thing or is the consensus just that it's more fun?
@HersonCiv2 ай бұрын
Hills are superior to flat land, and having hillier land speeds up the overall pace of the game. Playing on "standard" world age, some players will spawn with very few hills, while others will spawn with a moderate amount of hills. The players on the flatter land are at a massive disadvantage. Playing on "new" world age, some players will spawn with a moderate amount of hills, while other players will spawn with a ton of hills. The players on the flatter land, in this instance, are at a comparatively smaller disadvantage than they would be on standard world age. In conclusion, world age "new" is both more balanced and helps to keep the overall pace of games fast enough to be completed in one sitting, making games more fun.

I'm new to this, why do you avoid chopping rainforests and instead go for forests? I saw the chichen itza, but is that a goal or is there something that comes up later in the game? Or is it just better than the alternative?
@HersonCiv4 ай бұрын
I did chop some rainforests - for the most part, all of the rainforests on hill tiles in my empire were chopped, and then I placed mines on those tiles afterwards. As for the rainforests I didn't chop, they were largely on flat tiles in mostly flat cities, so chopping them would've left me with no production in those cities long-term (you can't build mines on flat, resourceless tiles). I'd rather go Chichen Itza and build lumber mills on these flat rainforest tiles instead. However, lumber mills can only be built on rainforests after unlocking the mercantilism civic, which is why it's not until the end of the very end of the game that you see some builders running around to improve them.

@HersonCiv4 ай бұрын
I passed the previous one, and then completed enough campus projects that I had enough great scientist points to simply recruit the next two scientists outright as soon as they were offered. Renaissance Era scientists cost 155 GPP each in the medieval era, so as long as you have 310 points when the first one is offered, you can recruit two on the same turn.

elanor france is by far the easiest on pangea maps tbh, early game settle wherever has high food, build your monument then go for theater squares into art into music. then build 2 warriors to explore and a few archers to defend yourself. always send delegation to other civs and be friendly. expand as much as possible and just ignore science after you get archers. get the diplomat governor and get the great writers/ artist or just buy great works off the ai. proceed to steal all caps due to loyalty which gets you in a perpetual golden age. if you wanna make it even easier use the secret societies and get the one from tribal villages which lowers loyalty with every use. mind you the ai loves to spam cultists so it will slow down your pc. also move your art/writing/ music/ cult relics to your cities closes to ai along with your governor. if you have extra production put it into entertainment hubs then do bread and circuses. you can win a war victory without any combat at roughly turn 100 on deity.
