Playing Budokai Tenkaichi in 2024

It has been almost twenty years since the release of the first game in the Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi series. It is also known as Dragon Ball Z Sparking in Japan and is the precursor to Sparking Zero.
It is a bit of a double edge sword of having played the newer titles in the series. When playing you really start to miss all of the improvements that the sequels made to the gameplay and it makes this game feel a bit archaic in comparison. On the other end though, you do get to appreciate where the series started from and how good the sequels really are.

Enjoy, that was my first BT game growing up, i put so much hours in to that game in terms of story mode its better than BT3 not to say you shouldn't get BT3 because you definitely should

T1 felt like a beta version and they used Yamamoto's Budokai music so they were still unsure about it. Then came Tenkaichi 2, and everything changed for the better.

Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is my most favorite of all because of the soundtracks in game just carries everything nicely from the mood and just full of fighting energy. BT3 was nice too though for having a crap ton of characters... Ultimate Tenkaichi funny enough I didn't like and hated at first like many but had learned to love it over time from character creation and how Saiyans should truly be and look like versus in XenoVerse... In that series of Xenoverse 1 & 2 they still didn't get customization right as far as Saiyana go but did everyone else right as far as Frieza, Namekian, and Majin Buu's race goes depsite having a lack luster of correct forms in order besides Saiyans being the only ones going in order... Yeah I cherished the old games that came before a lot now and am very thankful to have them.

Always glad to see another upload from you. I know you separated the channels so that this one can be more Dragon Ball focused and I have an irrational fear that you might get burnt out on only making DBZ content. The intro to this game was phenomenal hands down till this day still but wow was playing it not a fun time and almost made me not be a fan of the games at all but BT2 came to save the day.

I played BT1 recently to master it 100% and that journey was really a pain, Opponents keeps spamming Ki Blasts, combos can be escaped easily but gets annoying, unblockable rush attacks until you have to counter it with another rush or blast attack, collecting dragon balls in gotenks vs buu mission, and fusing goddamn Potaras to get the character you want, and also Ultimate Battle oh god😭😭😭, it's been hell and I keep hearing that story mode mission complete goofy music LOL, great Journey, it's amazing how this series evolved, Great Video as always Hidden!

I have a soft spot for Tenkaichi 1 due to the interface, Mr. Popo as a guide in the Story Mode along with King Kai's narration, and the Ultimate Battle mode. The sequels vastly improve the gameplay, but Tenkaichi 1 I think is still a great game in many ways similar to Budokai 1 is to it's sequels.

I replayed it last year as I was re-playing all three games and it was such an underwhelming experience, not to mention that the whole thing can be played in 2 hours. But that comes from me actually playing the game not just jumping on the hate bandwagon without trying it. May I ask why you dislike Kakarot though? I found it amazing

I started with BT2 and 3 and bought BT1 a couple years after, upon first playthrough i loved it, it really made me appreciate BT2 and BT3 a lot more. Over a decade later and I've decided to play through the whole BT series, i now despise BT1, which is probably more due to me playing on the hardest difficulty

The intro to this game was always awesome and a joy to watch. The gameplay is Medicore has aged badly and 2 and 3 of tenkaichi fixed the gameplay by a lot.

Yep, it was Ultimate Blast in Japan so... It's actually part of the Blast series aka Raging Blast in a way. RB1 and RB2 were pretty good, though.

Watching this makes me want to go right back to playing Xenoverse 2. BT was fine at the time but I personally like XV way more and maybe this is a hot take but I would much rather get XV3 instead of Sparking Zero/BT4.

Played first time bt2 then bt3 still playing i wish there were more character and costumes in bt3 like goten gt, vegeta gt and adding ultimate gohan into simple gohan, one vegeta which include ss1, 2 super vegeta and more costumes for trunks

This game was HARD. I couldn't beat it, and it frustrated my dad so much that he broke our ps2 controller when i asked him to help me beat it. I love the second and third game, but the first one i hate.

I love this game, the number one reason is because it was the first to make you feel like your in battles from the anime and movies because the story was based on power levels. If that battle was easy It would be easy in the game, If that battle was hard It would be hard in the game. If that battle was evenly matched It would be evenly matched in the game. So far only Tenkaichi 3, raging blast 1 copied that format i hope sparking zero does the same.

I got to play a early demo of the game on a convention and it was not promising. Besides the camera issues, the AI did not know what to do and got stuck all the time so that the team had to restart the demo every few minutes. When I got to the stand, Freezer was stuck under water and wasn't reacting. This really stopped me from getting the game. I'm glad they fixed a lot of it but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Tho the rubbernecking in the opening still get me

I was gonna say "yes, play bt2" but I have to say this first: bt2 gets better the more you progress throught story mode - it has lots of content and cool concepts and what if scenarios. If you're gonna play for just an hour, don't even bother.

Remember getting this for christmas at gamestop in 07 the game only owned was Budokai 2 so thought this game was fun but the game was hard couldn't get past evil Buu but sucks you can't change costumes and you can't transform anytime you want bt2 and 3 are best

Yeah.....this game with its archaic mechanics, lame storytelling, lack of transformations, spamming AI and bad camera......yeah this was more like a Prototype fir the rest of the Tenkaichi series.😁
