Namekians are named after instruments. 2:40 - At this point in the story, they're not so much friends as rivals. Piccolo wants to kill Goku, but in that anime kinda way that makes them friends. 3:33 - Yes 5:23 - He's had the Nimbus since he was a child, before he could fly. 6:23 - In DB they often go long periods of time, years in most cases, without seeing each other. Usually for training or just living their own lives. Really, they only seem to get together when plot happens. 6:38 - He's a midget

Although Goku can fly, even at the start of the series, the Nimbus is much faster than he is. It also allows him to fly around without draining his stamina. It wasn't until later on in the series that Goku really stopped using the Nimbus because he (and his companions) all become faster without it. And had they were so well conditioned that stamina wasn't an issue. Picollo is the only character who was so proficient at flying from the outset that he could keep up with the Nimbus just fine, since he was born with the ability to do it.

So you do get some clarity, yes, Piccolo Jr. (just called Piccolo in Z) was in fact a villain, and was essentially the final boss of classic Dragon Ball. He’s the son of the Demon King, and joins the 23rd World Martial Arts tournament in order to face Goku and avenge his father’s death. He does mellow out between then and the start of Z, but they weren’t quite on friendly terms yet in the manga/anime. It was actually Piccolo training and bonding with *Gohan* that really melts his cold exterior
