Although it's worth noting that this can only work if the person you're playing hard to get with is already interested in you. If someone you don't care much about doesn't text you back you don't get anxious, you just forget about them and move on. Plus it doesn't really set up a healthy balance for a relationship: do you really want to start a romantic relationship with your partner doubting your interest? It doesn't really set things up to last long. So playing hard can work in so far as it can potentially make someone more attracted to you. That doesn't mean it works as a good dating strategy to start happy long term relationships.

Actually, it's only not a good dating strategy if you don't have options. Of course it's not going to reliably start relationships because of uncertainty on the other end, but the people who do get hooked in will likely like the other person more, and thus more likely to be serious.
