As a trans person I don’t believe enjoying Harry Potter in itself is transphobic. As a former big Harry Potter myself (I have moved on to other series and my own characters so lost some interest hence the “former” but I still enjoyed it and there’s nothing wrong with that) I know what it’s like to be connected to a fantasy world and I don’t want other people to drop that. I do think it’s important though to be aware of the issues in the series and with the author. Also like you said there are many other problematic things people enjoy such as Disney, but I don’t see much people boycotting Disney

Yet a huge chunk of the LGBT+ community consumes it (which is all up to what you want to consume, but let’s not pretend there’s no double standard.) This game is just a trend rn. You hit the nail on the head. The inexistence of unethical consumption according to the same standards of the boycotters is true. The association from normies of transpeople and the boycotters harassment is a sad truth that can only backfire on the transpeople. The groupthink where you adopt views from others without properly researching and then create a cognitive dissonance with reality that only enforces what you already belief is TRUE. IMO boycotters of the game have the mental development of a teenager and should not be taken seriously. I'm sorry I'm apparently in the minority of your viewers of the other channel. I am a mainstream latina with catholic education that has suffered under communism and yes I do feel like the game pushes ME away from it. Preach!!! Playing video games is supposed to be an escape. It's also sad that in this day and time you can get cancelled or outcasted for your beliefs. People should be able to have different beliefs and opinions, debate about it, and still be friends. As long as you're not hurting anyone, do what you want. Freedom of speech is slowly disappearing.
@bdarecords_ Жыл бұрын
Statistics/analytics of channels/creators who have complained about being "canceled" almost always show the exact opposite or no changes in viewership/participation. The concept of "cancel culture" does not exist and is used by reactionaries and right wingers to complain about receiving backlash for communicating hateful and invalidating statements. Freedom of speech is not disappearing. The idea of criticizing backlash is the very concept of free speech. And in the past, there was even less "free speech". There has never been 100% free speech. Free speach ends when it violates the right of other people (or in the laws the right of companies). In the past when you insulted someone too much, people shot/lynched you, so what are you even on about? It's just not true and you know it. You need this concept to exist because it feels easier to accept than realizing that the perspective of those who "cancel" is right. Also: The world is burning and real people strip people of their rights right now and people like you complain about videogames (!) being too political. Maybe reconsider your priorities. We live in a materialistic world. Everything is connected. Nothing is isolated. The idea that you have about games is an illusion that you had as a child when you did not have to think about what surrounds games.
@bdarecords_ Жыл бұрын
And if you are so concerned about free speech: Why are socialists in america and europe being surveiled, stifled, raided and have to live in fear just for educating people? Why are books that tell people about the reality of gender and sexual identity and that there can be more than the traditionally accepted ones, so that they can be informed and are also less prone to discriminating others, being banned? Why are reporters being arrested and killed for reporting about corruption? Why are leftist influencers and journalists being banned from social media plattforms? Or any political people who have actual and valid critiique of the government, not some looney tunes conspiracies that dont hurt the government? And you complain about people being canceled for saying hateful things? Are you serious? You should be ashamed of yourself, living in ignorance like you do.

There is a channel on youtube by the name "Jassy gender" she is a trans woman that does very lengthy video-essays, and from what i can understand the majority of the boycotting regading HL started with Jessy posting a tweet she didnt put that much thought into, a tweet that than blew out of any proportion she ever imagined. And Rollimg did the dumbest move a celebrity can do on tweeter and retweeted a tweet of a critic, diracting far more attention to it than it would have ever gotten on its own. Jessy's original tweet sounded quite resenable to me, it was something along the lines of "its ok to tresure the seires for what it was but if you want to be a true ally you cant keep on supporting Rolling through merch and buying HL" i would suggest cheaking out some of the videos Jessy made on the subject, if you want some more context and understand why the trans community is so bitter with Rolling

Playing hogwartts legacy itself does not make one transphobic. What it does is put, through residuals and rights, puts funds into the hands of someone who is doing real, tangible harm to a community of people with actual real life consequences. No if, ands or buts about it, that is the issue.

it’s the way you admit to not being trans and shouldn’t speak on trans topics and then continue to make an entire video on trans topics. how about you let US decide what is and isn’t transphobic.
@indigomad Жыл бұрын
Satch isn't really providing opinions or debate about trans topics. He does bring up some points about why boycotting Hogwarts Legacy and bullying people for playing it has some logical fallacies. You're right in that cisgendered people should probably not be deciding what is or is not transphobic. But at the same time, cisgendered people should be allowed to question that instant jump to transphobia accusations, especially when it is so many layers removed. Like how unfortunate tweets from the author of a franchise, which I personally believe has transcended beyond her into its own cultural phenomenon, means that someone playing a video game set in that universe = transphobic. I understand that people are angry at JK Rowling, but why does that have to extend to those who are just playing a video game? One that has hundreds of other people involved in its development? Surely that misplaced anger can be used to better serve trans issues, of which there are many that are serious and much more impacting than gamers out there playing a wizard game. He is speaking about how people hating on him and accusing him of being transphobic for playing the game affects him. Considering that he is a person with feelings himself and that he makes a living from his KZbin videos, I think that's pretty fair.
@jessn5677 Жыл бұрын
Not everything is transphobic. People can have opinions and can play a game. If the loud twitter warriors weren’t so extreme most people wouldn’t care about trans anything. Now people know that trans people online are not terrible because they are trans, they are terrible because they hate fun and happiness and anything that sparks joy in others.
@yara-nd5ky Жыл бұрын
@@indigomad I don't think he is a transphobe and he is free to express his opinion. Sorry this whole boycott thing is so overblown. The internet is not real life I assure you no one really gives af in the real world what game you play. The game sales really just proved otherwise. So I have no idea what this "other" side are even complaining about? I have alot to say about unethical consumption, people should boycott whatever they want but engaging in whataboutism is not it. I don't see the point in these videos because all it just feels idk reactionary...? and all it does is just try to paint a certain group as sensitive snowflakes.
