One of the things I appreciate most about your videos is that you show the most important part of any fire: proper preparation of the materials to make the fire possible. Too many people think they can just throw a bunch of wood together and it’ll light right up. It’s good to see someone setting a good example and doing it right.

Absolutely love mine. If you take the plastic liner out, heat it a little and flatten it out so it's not so round, then cut the ears off, you'll find it drops into the sheath much better and the blade won't drag on the sheath. I like the way the meat of the handle sits right between the thumb and index finger (web)for comfortable pushing during cutting. Great review.

Say Heah Dave, I found this video. I took a small set of model files I bought for a. $01.00 and lightly, (or fine sandpaper) and I mean lightly filed it so it was perfect. What a difference. It fits like a glove now. I also got the leather frog, cheap at B H and what a difference when I dangler carry it. But that plastic insert makes it alot safer. Oh the Mark's diappear on G-10.,,.

Say Heah Dave, I know your going to like the Bushcrafter 162. I got mine when it first came out, and it's a very First Production Run I did take a very fine sandpaper to the handle to make it a perfect semetrical fit handle and made it fit's my hand perfectly like a custom handle, But very, very little and the sanding goes away on the G-10, I also attached a leather frig which I git from battle horse for $10.00 I dint remember, but Eugene also has them. because he has the same knife, But yeah, It's one of NY Fav's. ,, .

Great posting. Thanks for sharing. I think comparisons of the new steel chemistry/metallurgy with more traditional carbon blades is akin to comparing vintage aircraft with modern high performance aircraft. I appreciate the older metallurgy and all of my working blades are simple carbon steel between sixty and one hundred and sixty years old. This offering by Benchmade USA and some of the custom work by Dan Eastland at Dogwood Customs are wildly attractive as well as the new metallurgy offerings from Mora. Again, thanks for sharing. Greg

For the price paid for the 162, you can pick up a Enzo "Trapper" in Elmax steel. Not as stain resistant and stainless, but really good stain resistants, plus the best edge retention in the business.

Say Heah Dave, I just took my B M Bushcrafter 162 out a week or so ago. All I did was a minor tune up because it was put away in good condition. I have to say, It is one of my Fav's especially when I go with either of my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or my Warbeast Tomahawk. But I had it out for a short spin today with my Fox Bushcraft Parang. Just to see if it would be good with it. Over last weekend, I teamed it with my Frost Mora Clipper. So today I teamed my Bushcrafter 162 and surprisingly it sort of color matches too. So another knife I can add when using my Fox Bishcraft Parang. I bought the Bushcrafter 162 when it first came out. Infact I have the very First Production Run #299 out of 500. Would I still buy the knife know what I know after using it, Absolutely, a definite yes. The only thing I did to the Sheath beside treat it, I added a leather belt loop that attaches to the d-ring that makes it a dangler, and that's it. The Sheath is still going string and appears it will hold up for a long time. I really like my Bushcrafter 162 and its one if my Fav's. I have no fear splitting kindling apparatus by twisting it in wood, I also like the High Grind in it because I have it very sharp, as you know, stripping will bed tge edge, so all in all, I really like it. As the weather gets warmer, I will go more into a Trio Carry, like I said, with either my Double Bit Hatchet or Three Edge Sided Tomahawk, and my Bacho Laplander, I'll prolly bring a pocket knife with something to untangle paracord and a good can opener on it. I like Pork and Beans with a good quality Hot Dog with mustard and onions, The scenery is there and it just doesn't get any better. I just ordered some more Torano Noventa La Esperenza cigars that I'm sure will hit the spot. But I'm a little surprise you don't use the Benchmade 162 as much, I mostly see you use your Mira in most of your videos, and yet you have a fine knife in that B M Benchmade 162 and that Spyderco Bushcraft Knife. If you want to sell them, talk to me. Yeah, I also brought out my Blind Horse Bushcrafter, Its a 4" blade in O1 and a Scandi Gribd, I had the handle flattened, with the rounded corners, Its not smaller just flatter and not round, I feel I have alot better control with that type of handle. I also had the handle polished, with those fisheye rivers make it look like a high priced Kephart. I also have a beautiful dangler square bottom Sheath. so matching the 2Hawks chopper match great also same as my B M Bushcrafter 162. well, again for now, Asta La Vista, Amigo.,,.

I just fondled one of these at REI today. I actually wasn't happy with the handle. Very blocky in a way that made me wish it wasn't blocky. I've got an old hickory that is literally a block but it way its shaped makes the blockyness feel secure. That might be just me but I wish they'd chamfered the scales more.

Say Heah Dave, Yeah you know that I like my Benchmade #162 Bushcrafter. I also always liked the S. O. G. Fix Blades with the Camel Hump's. Those's kind of knives were also used in Nam by Special Forces and Tunnel Rat's. Anyhow I have the Seal Pup Elite and my Trident 2.0. Both in the AUS8a. A inexpensive stainless but with the Cryo S. O. G. does to it, It's pretty good. But I just got the S. O. G. Pillar Fix Blade. They stepped it up by making it in the CPM S35Vn. Yeah, it also has a Choil so it offers alot if task specific's. I know you will like it. Yeah, Check it out. I used it in a basic trio carry. I added my Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe and my Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw in the Crazy Horse Scabbard with a extra saw blade. A real nice basic Trio. Seriously, Dave, I really like my S. O. G. Pillar Fix Blade, That's why I posted this, I know you'll like it too. It does L@@K TactiKewl, But it also works great in the Bush, It's becoming one of my Fav's.,,. p kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5LbeIGHepqNgqM God Bless America, Happy 4th of July.,,. p

HighCarbonSteel Love Yeah I actually made that comment befor watching the actual video haha, I trust you for your word. I believe you when you admit the sheath looks very nice but say it's just not that good. Also when you say the handle is better then it looks ;) in some way I still agree with my comment, when we talk about aestetics I still hate the handle for the looks. Cheers

Say Hrah, Excellent knife but I had to "Do it my way" I filed off ever so slightly the corners to be ever so slightly rounder, I stress SLIGHTLY. I alway's wondered why Benchmade never finished the Dangler Sheath. But, yeah, I got the rest of the dangler from Battle Horse Knives, It's the Frog that leather piece that your belt goes through, It's very inexpensive, but made a world of difference. Yeah its much better to wear the Bushcrafter #162 lower on the dangle. As far as the handle, Mine naturally possition in my hand that I can almost plane wood which is awesome. Yeah its one of my Fav's, especially after I put the frog on, surprisingly it matches very good too.

Oh it was nithing, sand paper would work real good, just don't take too much off, I just smoothed it a very little bit and I mean a little is all it took to feel perfect. The Frog from Battle Horse made the Sheath wear a Google times better lover on the dangler.

If yours feels a bit boxy and you feel the cirner, sand just a very little off and believe me the G-10 hides the sanding real good you won't be able to tell but it will feel great.

+real metis This is a very nice knife, but I prefer the Spyderco. Scandinavian grind, different handle design, 01 carbon tool steel and a nicer sheath are the main reasons why, however, the Benchmade is an excellent knife! -Dave
