i've watched all the jones videos over the last 40+ years from vhs to dvds and now on youtube. i guess when they first came out in the 1930's they must of been shown in movie theaters between features or privately if you could afford the film reels and a projector and screen. they stand the test of time and still fun and informative to watch the master.

The Grip is the 1st fundamental of golf. More than 90 years later and this video is still relevant.

Jones's grip is very very very similar to the great Ben Hogan. Both men stressed the EXTREME importance of having a perfect grip. Both were the two top swingers of the club. Nicklaus would be third, and Palmer , 4rth.

The club in San Francisco mentioned earlier was the Olympic AND THE HOLE MENTIONED WAS 16. IT WAS 670 YDS LONG. BOB JONES WAS THE ONLY PLAYER TO HAVE EVER REACHED IT IN 2 SHOTS UNTIL JOHN DALY DID IT YEARS LATER. This answers the question: was Bobby Jones long?

Considering his hickory 3 wood would casually hit the ground at 245.... I think it's safe to say his 1wood would probably be around 280-290 off the tee with no other factors like wind or downhill. Again, with hickory shafted clubs... That's fucking incredible.

i've always thought booby jones' grip to be quite strong and you can see his left thumb is just about on the back side of the handle. my own grip is almost as strong, that's what works for me.

Looks very Joe Norwood style(I have no relation). Surprising we've gotten away from this style of grip.

Look how strong his left hand grip is, and yet the right hand doesn't go under the club. Left hand using mostly radial/ulnar deviation, right hand using mostly dorsi/palmar flexion.

How far did Jones average on the drive?

Johnny Parker it is difficult to get accurate numbers but I have seen reports that with the right ground conditions (firm and fast) he could hit 300 yard drives with a good chunk of it being roll.

According to some other reports, he was probably carrying it around 240/250 yards

In the 1930 am, which bob won, there was a par five hole measuring over 620 yards, it was all uphill, up til then, nobody had eagled it, bob hit driver, spoon to 6 ft and made the conceded putt. Bobby could hit it far but alway played to hit fairways as the rough was well a lot longer than today's rough. Freddy mccloed said when he needed over 300 his backswing dipped just a few inches lower than normal. He could do anything with a club.

@@kingarrockhickorygolf8101 His 3w could do that, he said it himself. 1w would probably hit the ground off the tee around 280-290
