Playing PS1 Games on Amiga - by LemonAmiga.com

The Amiga can emulate anything; from a NASA space rocket, to a PS5! (although maybe very slowly). In this video, I attempt to play some PS1 games on my emulated PPC RTG setup. Most of the games seem to have issues with my emulator, but this proves it was possible. This is final video in our Summer Slam 2023.

So the idea for this video came about after I discovered a PPC PS1 emulator. After installation, everything seemed fine. But now for some reason I've lost all of the sound from the emulator, so I couldnt go back and grab some more. At least half of the games I tried didn't work, including Rollcage, Gran Turismo and Tomb Raider. But 2D games worked, and seemed to play very well. It just goes to show what was possible if they have gone with AAA or a GFX card solution, rather than just AGA, as a PS1 isn't very powerful, but it does have a fast GPU.

So Die Hard Trilogy was the game that made me say goodbye to the Amiga and buy a PlayStation. To see many developers from the Amiga days making games for PlayStation it felt ok to move on

Die Hard Trilogy I think was also the game which made me switch. I didn't get in to Tomb Raider straight away, and didn't find the best games until later. When I first bought a PS1, it came with no games, so I got the cracks of Bubble Bobble in this video, and also Die Hard Trilogy.

Seeing this on real hardware would be worth it to assess the performance but I dont see the point of emulating a console in WinUAE running on Windows with 3-4ghz cpu's available.

I've Played a bit of Command And Conquer on My Amiga. And I Love Me Some Soul Blade, Soul Calibur But I Keep Going Back To Moonstone., Settlers And North & South.

Sometimes it's good to go away and play another console for a while, but all the games I tried reminded me of how much better Amiga games are!

Me too, although I cant remember if the emulator was set to 'fastest possible' to get these frame rates. Probably some fast 3D games would crawl along, but the 2D stuff works well.

It will run on an Amiga with RTG gfx card and PPC. Of course that is so expensive these days emulation makes sense.

If you have a Vampire, an X5000, or something running OS4 on a Pi, these quirky OS3 RTG emulators might be a benchmark?

Wtf, i was just thinking, simply thinking about games which work better on Amiga than PS1... damn, this is awesome... die hard trilogy was a revelation when it came out

WTF? Indeed. Of course, Archer McLeans Snooker was ported identically (even with the stupid NTSC compatible screen mode) to the PS1. I guess other games were ported too. Die Hard Trilogy needs more recognition as a video game hall of fame classic. It even seems optimed (plays faster) on the emulator, presumably so non-PPC 060 users could actually play it?
