Playing With Paint - Contrast Paints, What are they good for?

A little update from my original video. A bit of a ramble on paining using the citedal contrast paints, what i think theya re good for and what they are not so good at.

Thanks mate 👍 i now use Darkoath Flesh as my first tone onnearly all models instead of guilliman flesh. I like this range as it has lots of applications

I agree with you. Contrast paint are great for quick and bulk painting, but you do have to highlight them a little and they are just too runny for detail. I use typically 50-60% of my historical figures in contrasts.

Cheers, totally agree with you mate, they are just anoher tool to be used like any wash or effects paint

Great review and tutorial. I've used "contrast" paints for a few years now, though they're from Golden Paints. The High Flow Acrylic Paint line. Great for painting on light gray or white primed figurines. Very bright colors. An alternative medium that can be used is airbrush medium (for high flow or fluid-type acrylics) if you can't get Citadel or other brand mediums.

@@7thson726 You're welcome. I get my Golden Paints at Blick. They do have a sample pack if you want to try them without investing a lot of money.

Very interesting insight into contrast paints and historical figures. It alway good to see and get opinions on these things. I think they are too pastel, but I like the way you use them and the results you are getting 👍😁

Thanks very much, but if a last minute video, I just switched the camera on, didn't really plan it 😀 I agree, I just tend to ask myself does this need highlighting, if it's a rank and file model mixed in with 6 others on a base then sometimes I feel it doesn't 🤔

Cheers mate, it's worth giving them a go, you may find one that really cuts down on a part of painting you find tedious, i.e. me and horses 😁

Interesting chat. Must admit I haven’t tried these yet and from the title of the video, I was expecting you to say they’re good for absolutely nothing. I might have a look though, I think they could be especially useful for horses.

Very nice. The gore grunta fur paint on horses, what paint do you use to highlight? I have 48 horses to paint.

Cheers 😀 I use a yellow brown or something like mournfang brown from gw but usually only a quick drybrush 👍
