Recently completed the Forgotten Age with two friends and played using Stella Clark. With 3 Neither Rain, Nor Snow, 2 Resourceful, and 2 Not without a Fight and other skill check cards I ended up playing a deck oriented to skill tests. TFA was a challenge but Stella performed well and with mostly doing skill check, resources were never a problem.

It still seems completely bizarre to me that Monterey Jack was not included in the Forgotten Age investigators. Seems like the perfect campaign for him.

I think the guide book for the 1st two scenarios actually references Monterey so agreed, its really weird that they waited until the edge of the world to release him.

There had been 3 cycles in between TFA and his release. It's very likely, he would have been designed differently, if they released him back then. (My guess, as a 0-5 seeker, 0-2 rogue, which would have pushed back Ursula, who is another very TFA-ish investigator.) True, there is a reference to him in the intro text, but that's just because he had been in the lore of other Arkham Files games as "Indiana Jones wannabe" before.

Monterey's lore is more towards Egypt than South America tho! So yes he fits in TFA because he is an explorer (Arkham's Indiana Jones) but having him in Edge of the Earth, TFA or a futur (fingers crossed) Egyptian theme cycle would all be great options for him thematically! :)

Love the video! I think choosing from these investigators will help a lot in this brutal campaign. I was wondering what the best combo would be for 2 players, though out of the investigators you mentioned? I'm interested in Silas but who would go well with him as a clue getter?

Have done Green+yellow already for tFA.. a while ago.. and just did grelow+Purlue for EotE.. And since I have the itch for RttFA.. looks like Red is a must for the next playthrough 🤔

Daniela seems a good fit: great soak, can run Stunning Blow and Alter Fate, and even has a built-in auto evade if you're willing to take a punch. I plan to play her in RttFA with my friend playing Monterey Jack, they look like they complement each other very well. I'll make sure to include Safeguard to keep up with his moves though :)

There is a good but underestimated ally called cat burglar. Wendy with de Luca (and/or Peter) and charisma, maybe also a bow later in the campaign for killing options? That has a lot of evade, plenty of free and/or extra actions, good soak and Wendy has particularly good synergies with lock-picks and slipaways. Also Wendy because she has balanced health/sanity to deal with traumas. But yea, not even the best little girl can survive the journey to the center of the earth if the chaos bag is anything but easy. This is the campaign that teaches you traumas and defeat, the game is balanced and being defeated is part of the balance but nevertheless the chaos bag needs adjustment to easy unless you like playing a game that kicks you in, then slaps you and "finally" curses you to an endless time loop of the whole torturous procedure.

My group literally started The Forgotten Age this week with Stella, Ursula, Leo, and Akachi. Sounds like we picked pretty good.

Last year we went back to Return to Forgotten Age a little traumatised with how badly the 1st campaign blind run went, we tooled up and brought the S+ decks which crushed the campaign so I can definitely confirm Stella is nuts in FA as I broke the game and had to allow the game to have mythos phase again before it got too boring. Once we finished a new Taboo list came and 3 of the 4 decks we played had cards that were recently added to it.

Justin and Travis say words with such a weird cadence. Alter Fate is a slower phrase for most people but you guys say Allturfate. All the emphasis on the beginning and nowhere else 😂

Would mark be okay in TFA? He has great defense stats and Sophie. But he also has Sophie so he’s kinda weak to trauma? I ask because my group is about to go first time TFA and I am our groups designated monster fighter and my choice of investigators is limited to the cycles that came before plus starter decks.

Mark would by no means be bad in The Forgotten Age. He may not be able to take advantage of certain aspects like some of the other investigators we listed here, but he'll still be very successful with it.

Spoilerish - The other thing you didn’t mention about Preston is that Family Inheritance is permanent so you still get the effect in CoA. Not only that but you don’t have the drawback of putting earned money onto Family Inheritance. Throw in an upgraded Streetwise and you are in a good spot. Finally, he is the only investigator that actually gets a better stat line in CoA.
