“The Weight,” features Ringo Starr and The Band's original member Robbie Robertson, along with musicians across 5 continents. Great songs can travel everywhere bridging what divides us and inspiring us to see how easily we all get along when the music plays. Special thanks to our partner Cambria® for helping to make this possible and to Robbie Robertson, Ringo Starr and all the musicians for joining us in celebrating 50 years of this classic song.

Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. Our primary focus is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos we call Songs Around the World. Creating these videos motivated us to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of our mission, featuring musicians met along our journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, we aim to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet. Learn more: playingforchange.com

The musicians are incredible but whoever mixed and edited this deserves 1000 Grammy awards. The changes in instrumentation and vocalists feels completely natural and seamless. The sound is always balanced and full while also giving each musician a great share of the limelight. The buildup is so subtle that you barely notice how much bigger it has gotten by the end. Absolutely amazing.

@@steveskrobot5992 I agree. Of course, death is sad. Much more sad and terribly sad in many (most) cases. But, in my case, maybe not. I am 71 and death (right around the corner) might just be the end to a decent journey. My fortune. I stayed with my dad in his house, with my mom (his wife for over 50 years) for the last five weeks of his life here on this earth before he died at 83 of cancer. He certainly died slowly and painfully but he had had a life filled with many joys. He and I hope others (like us and Robbie) are blessed. SOOO many more are not. What is it all about? Who gets to have a good life and live long? Who truly knows?

Ringo played drums on "I Shall be Released" in the Last Waltz. Like so many other musicians, he admired The Band (and so did George). Here, these two men who shaped so much of the music we enjoy today, jam with so many musicians whom they influenced across the globe. They got to see the fruits of their labor. Thank you to Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel and Rick Danko. Thank God we still have Garth Hudson and Ringo. Any day now, any day now, I shall be released. Farewell, Robbie. This might be my favorite video of all time. As a die-hard "The Band" fan, I was already an easy audience. But this rendition featuring so many domestic and international artists takes the song to an unbelieveable level. Congrats to all involved because this recording/editting/sound mix/and video editing is an absolute masterpiece. Thank you for doing it. Because I've always loved the guy, my favorite moment is Robbie's smile at the end. He seemed truly happy and satisfied. That's the best we can hope for anyone. May he RIP with the knowledge that his music, style and influece will last forever.

Marcus King brought me to my knees the first time I heard him. He was only 18 or 19 years old. I was in awe. My tears tears overwhelmed me. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and seeing. I understand how that much empathy and feelings come with a very a lot of weight and challenges. He has my total respect. I have nothing but gratitude to have met him and heard his voice. I am so grateful he pretended to be catering! Thank you Warren for listening to his CD.

I come here and listen to this song every now and then, even though I know every time I will get choked up listening to it. With the current Worldwide disaster (corona virus) it is easy to see we are all part of the same family on a very small planet. It doesn't matter where you grew up, where you learned, what your religion is, or who you love, at least music such as this binds us all together, something we need to do more of.

Yeah, it's a song that allows us to sing in harmony in any vocal range. The first time I heard the song was in 1968 when our ancient history teacher, Stan walked into class with a copy of "Music From Big Pink" under his arm and it blew us away. Stan introduced us to a lot of great music and educated us on the political landscape of the time, God bless him. Sounds like you're a really good teacher as Stan was.

I read in a Beatles book once that his style is to play just a little behind the beat, and I hear that here - like with the fill at 38 seconds. On the one hand it's very laid-back, but it still has somehow has this cool momentum, like you're just kind of falling into the next bar. His playing seems so simple, but I wouldn't change a thing about it - it fits this song so well (plus a hundred+ Beatles tunes, of course). Any drummers have insight on this? Do you hear it this way too?

Oh honey, I am old lady now. This song has been my heart since a kid. Marcus King is my pride joy and hope. To be that amazing and empathetic at his age comes with many challenges. He has all of the love and light I can send to him. He has taken on a lot weight on his shoulders. I don’t know that I have ever met such a good soul. Tears auto flow every time I hear him.
