@@kingofrunescapepking How is that a no-brainer? Minsc is also a combo piece in the command zone that has access to the most 1-card win conditions in the game. Not saying Minsc is actually better than Rocco, I just don’t think Rocco being a combo piece isn’t actually a selling-point here haha. Rocco is more about flexibility, and also gives you a “0-card wincon” in the CZ if you have enough mana to dump.

What was the win at 7:30 with Thought Lash? Did Zack have Oracle in hand already?
@wongwei7830 Жыл бұрын
He had Top in hand already, so he could cast top, start exiling his library, casting all the 0 mana mana rocks (could also cast mana reducers for artifacts and/or all spells and/or underworld breach, and win through storm), activate top to draw Oracle when he hits it, and cast Oracle and exile his library in response to Oracle's trigger to win the game.

I'm new to CEDH and currently seeing decks win the same way every time like this makes my eyes roll. Is there a frame of mind or something I'm missing that makes it fun to play a deck that is fishing for a formulaic win like this enjoyable that I am missing? Asking because one of my close friends really likes CEDH but only 1 other person in our pod does too so I'm trying to learn it so I can proxy a deck and join in on it with them so I do actually want to like CEDH too.
@jakemaxwell3810 Жыл бұрын
So this is kinda nuanced. Do you dislike mill winning the same way every time? And Voltron strategies? And infect? What if they always win with big combat damage after assembling a large board? My guess is you don't have a problem with those, but dislike the idea of building the deck attempting to use the same particular cards to assemble the win. The reason more non-combo strategies aren't used is that EDH has way too high of life total for aggro and way too large of library for mill to be competitive strategies. This makes the best decks usually rely on a combo to kill the table at once rather than try to deal 120 damage with combat. This isn't all bad though. The cool part about this is that the other players know what you have to do to win and will try to stop you. 'Battlecruiser' EDH can often feel like political solitaire where you just build up your board and try to swing it at people that can't damage your dudes enough to stop you killing the others. CEDH pods are always threatening and you have to figure out if you're trying to race to the win first, or stop someone else and what the best use of your cards is which can be really tough with tutors. If you don't like it, that's fine, but it is fun to play in games with no salt because no one is pulling their punches and the decks are made as cutthroat as possible. There is a ton of decision making to decide how aggressively to pursue your win, whether to feed mystic remora or rhystic study when you need a big turn, whether you can afford the risk of tapping out instead of holding up countermagic, how much life to dedicate to necropotence or ad naus, or what you should try to tutor for. Not every deck uses only one win condition either. Cormela, for example will use consult + thorace OR breach + Brain Freeze + LED or lotus petal OR Cormela + dockside + twinflame OR demonic tutor + saw in half + cormela + dark ritual OR Cormela + saw in half + dark ritual + a cantrip ... and the list keeps going. Check her primer if you're interested for it all. The point is, just because there are a set 5-10 best ways to win, you can utilize more than one in your deck, or get to it differently each game. Staxy decks like Urza, Winota or Blood Pod will play super differently than an aggressive deck like Korvold or First Sliver and have vastly different decisions to make. Besides this, the gameplay is typically much shorter than casual pods because someone will find a win faster so you get to play more games and everyone usually dies at the same time so you don't have one or two players waiting around for half an hour for everyone else to finish. To maybe see the fun in this game 2, if you look at just Ryan on turn 4, he tried to cast eldritch evolution for a mv3 creature. What was he going to get? If you look at his list and knowing he had pod in hand, it might have been for Skyclave Apparition to get rid of one drannith and then pod it into twinshot sniper afterward to hit the phantasmal image. So he had to know his deck really well to find that line, and then scrap it and come up with a new way to get rid of them when his tutor was countered. That's just one player for a turn or two. This type of play can be thrilling when you know you are close and just have to piece it together.
