Side note for people who aren't savvy on emulation just yet, this will help you-- the installer gives you a shortcut after installation. Right click that and then click 'Open File Location' to access the same files he got from the Retroarch DOWNLOAD version. I'm not sure how many people aren't aware of this feature, but sometimes I see this brought up in comment sections on other tutorials.

Dude you are way too helpful. The recent upgrades with PS1 emulation are great, but so confusing, this video made the setup so much easier. I think more Retroarch videos for other systems would be great, if you haven't made them already. This stuff is why I'm subscribed.

You didn't explain this properly at all.. For the people that are having problems with getting a game to load... Make sure you have the 6 bios files scph1001.bin scph5500.bin scph5501.bin scph5502.bin scph7001.bin scph7502.bin In the Rero Arch system folder. In order to find out where they go, In retro arch go to settings>directory>system bios........ make sure the 6 bios files are in that folder that is listed under the system bios... in windows 10 for me it was users>your pc name>appdata>roaming>Retroarch/system.... Appdata folder was hidden, so I also had to make sure to display hidden folders... You didn't explain this in the video about going to check in the directory and system bios within retro arch first... If you're going to take fucking forever in these... Make sure you're giving everybody the full info, not just half of it and leave out the most important info to get it working.... FUCK nugget....

How are you, Austin? I have a question but as I'm here I just want to reïterate how much I love your approach to your videos. You do get criticised for the length of them and I really do understand why. But it is just so truly enjoyable to hear someone be so passionate about something and have so much _fun_ trying to help others. I think maybe you could make it easier to skip to different sections (timestamps or something) if you wanted a good compromise, but it doesn't bother me. You just sound so bloody happy; it's hard even to want to skip through it. Anyway, I've followed this video's instructions to the letter and the result is that I can play my games and it all works, which is great. However, the game I'm trying to play is Countdown Vampires, which I half-expect you to say is an old favourite (or that it's terrible or you've never heard of it), and it seems to have trouble looking good. My theory is that it's for using pre-rendered backgrounds, and that the emulation of the backgrounds and the 3D models is done so differently that it doesn't look right. If I leave everything at native PS1 settings, it just doesn't look remotely good. I imagine this is because our fancy new high-resolution screens don't do well with these old games, as this is a problem even on my Wii and PS2; they looked better on my old '90s televisions. However, when I turn up almost any setting, either my frame rate drops to an unplayable level or I get horrible sound artefacts. What's weird about this is that my PS2 emulator does great when I turn up the resolution to much higher levels than this. If I can't fix it I may have to use native settings for everything, and it frankly looks just a step above a Mega Drive game when I do that, which as I've said is frustrating mostly because my system can probably handle it if I knew how to instruct it, given that it does PS2 emulation seemingly much better. Thanks a million.

A Pentium g4560 (literally the cheapest Pentium model, it's like 60 bucks) + GTX 1050(ti) (also very cheap. Think around 120-150 bucks) will run almost everything op and including to the wii/gamecube fine. Take the 1050ti over the 1050 for a bit more power to make games look even better and for more power in 'normal' gaming. Heck, if you want to only the g4560 can do a lot of work with it's iGPU. My brother has it in his pc, and he is able to run most gamecube games fine (using the ishiiruka dolphin built) and even increase the render resolution a bit. For good WiiU/3ds emulation the 1050ti will also suffice, although something more like the i5 7500/7600/7600k is required as a processor. I don't know how AMD's new ryzen cpu's fare in emulation, so you have to do some research on that. I hope this has been of any help :)

Does your .bin file have an accompanying .cue file? Without it, it won't recognise it, as the developers thought it was a good idea to remove .bin support. If you don't have a .cue file, you can make a text file and insert this in, after which you save it as .cue: FILE "GAMENAME.bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE1/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00

Ok, for those who are still having issues with a Black Screen even after trying "The Boogeyman's" suggestion, I have found the solution!!! You need 3 Bios and they need to be in your Retroarch Directory under "system". They are named as followed : scph5500.bin, scph5501.bin, and scph5502.bin. and quoted from a Retroarch Wiki: "The hardest to find is the scph5501.bin, but its MD5 is identical of scph7003 so you can rename 7003 to 5501 and it will work". obviously im not gonna link the bios but they are not hard to find. This fixed my issue.

So you shouldn't expect all games to work flawlessly like Rollcage does.

Also, the Playstation skatepark at 33:18 is legend.

hehe is that an actual place then mate? Where is it located?
@SkillipEvolver7 жыл бұрын
oh yes indeed! it's under a flyover in Ladbroke Grove (London), near the famous Portobello Market. It went by PlayStation Skatepark for over 15 yrs I think. renamed now to 'Bay SixtySix'. It had a pretty cool PS logo machined from steel over the entrance. You can also see it in Ali G, in one of his Ali G show intros, you see him breakdancing in there :-). great vids as always btw, love the detail.

I don't usually use emulators but this one is good and I love PS1 and have been collecting for it for a bit now. This is a good one thanks for showing. Though I wish it was as simple as putting in your original PS1 disc the way PCSX2 allows PS2 discs. Thumbs up though.

sp00kiest channel Evah!!! Well I did it mainly to see the graphical improvements. I have a PS1 so emulating without any graphical enhancements would not have any benefits for me.

cracking video, would love one like it for PS2 emulation. wanting to build a dedicated light gun pedestal cabinet so PS2 emulation is a must. **edit: the link to your pcsx2 guide was in the list of suggested videos! lol**

A very well presented video! personally I love jaggies(in some games) and dislike retroarch's UI, however I agree its one of the best ways to experience tons of systems with lots of options. Ill definitely link this video when I make a emu device review. Peace!

Great video Austin! I have a request: could you make a video about emulating old Windows operating systems, like Windows 98 and Windows XP?

Love the tutorial, although I think calling the extra files "Fixes" is a bit of a stretch, even if the emulator won't work without them ;) But still, thanks for all the in-depth explanation, it's becoming harder and harder to find up-to-date tutorials nowadays!

Awesome. Its actually usable now. Before the internal resolution had issues. When you changed it, it'd only fill a portion of the screen and would be unplayable. I figured they'd fix it eventually making that my new go to for PSX emulation and turns out I was right. Wondering if I can use shaders with it similar to the way you'd use them on ePSXe. Some games look good with certain ones. FF9 and the cartoon shader is pretty great.
@SimplyAustins7 жыл бұрын
yeah, in my opinion this one has the best stock shaders available for old school looks. You can even download more automatically or use your own
