@@f.hegerfeldt128 Agreed - the PS3 was expensive BECAUSE it came with a disc drive - a freaking brand new technology called BluRay, and to make the drives was stupid expensive at the time. PS5 Pro is expensive because execs want more money. Fuck em.

Yeah but at least the PS3 had loads of games you could only play on it the PS5 pro has no games that can't be played on a regular PS5 hell the majority of games on the PS5 including major releases are playable on PS4.

PS3 got a blueray player on a steal, launch units are backwards compatible and it did produced great exclusives later in it's life cycle.... I remember even getting a free blueray movie that came with the package

I got my PC for £600 back in 2020, and aside from raytracing it can do practically everything a PS5 can do. For an extra £100 all these years on, I could probably invest that into raytracing. I've played some former PS5 exclusives on Steam flawlessly and had a great time. I don't see a reason to buy a PS5 over a PC anymore aside from fanboy elitism. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Also an edit to shoutout the Steam Deck as a great middle-ground at a lower price)

The pricing is so wild to me. For a console that doesn’t have all that many great exclusives, that is a bold price. I’m just trying to figure out who the PS5 Pro is for? By the time the PS3 overtook the 360 in lifetime sales the PS4 was already out. It's one of the most "uhm ackshually" console war victories, so I usually just say that the 360 *functionally* beat out the PS3 over the generation, because by the time PS3 could claim victory everyone had long stopped caring. I say this as someone who generally prefers Playstation to Xbox

The justifications for it are interesting. "Well, it's just not for you. It's no different than a PC tier you can't afford." I mean, sure... I get that. But even if you can easily afford it, that price tag is a "spit on you" price tag. Why shell out $700, even if you easily can afford it, for such a disrespectful price that demands you supply the stand and disk drive? Just because some can afford it doesn't mean they should be so willing to let Sony take advantage of them. I mean, I could afford it but it just feels... dirty.

The issue I see existed at least since launch of the PS4, when devs started sacrificing performance for fidelity. You'd think that after the PS4 Pro and PS5, that issue should've been resolved, but even to this day, we get games that offer "performance" and "fidelity" modes. What needed to happen was games being optimized for the system; have it look good *and* run smooth. Instead, we're solving the problem by throwing even more power at it. Yeah, older games will now have the benefit of both "performance" and "fidelity" modes, but, like with the system upgrades before, it's likely creating an excuse to further push the envelope on fidelity to get the investors creaming. And of course more poor optimization, because of the great working conditions within the industry.

I still haven't gotten around to getting a PS5 at all. No Uncharted, Sly Cooper, or new exclusives that would make me make the plunge. Astro Bot looks fun, but not fun enough to buy a whole console

Launching the PS5 in the middle of a global pandemic was the most tone deaf thing Sony has ever done. Here we are almost 5 years later and it barely has 1/4 of the games PS4 had during its first 5 years.

I see why Sony would price the Pro like this: Sony doesn't see people buying multiple games to cover Sony's cost to build the Pro. They're pretty much selling the console at the price it costs them to make it since they're barely making money from game sales.

But they really get that consoles need to be affordable and reasonably mobile. Even the GameCube had a carry handle. When I want top end gaming hardware I jump on my PC.

I will defend them a little bit. This isn't supposed to sell massively. It's a luxury products for people with too much money on hand or who are bothered by games only running at 30fps and looking amazing / 60 fps and almost looking as amazing. This isn't for you or me, it' for a fairly small group of people and whoever they can convince to get it, even if that's only a couple of million total.

ha yeah, both pc and nintendo have such a huge number of games to pick from you are never wanting for anything to play for the rest of the year, or more depending of how bad your backlog is. I have heard people talking about how they cna't make a dent on the hundreds or thousand of games already in their library

I would like inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 remakes. Actually, I'd be happy with functional ports. My internet connection is...not great. So even if I wanted to pay for the streaming service (which I don't), I wouldn't be able to properly utilize it anyway. Sometimes the classics are fun to go back to, but I would have to dig up and setup my PS3 for that. Oh well, at least I still currently have the option. So I guess I can't complain too much.

I've said this once and I'll say it again. The PS5 Pro is made only for and SPECIFICALLY for the snobbiest of frame rate snobs. There's just no getting around it, especially when that video announcing it made that much of a big deal about it without providing actually proof of it.

I clearly hate consoles nowadays, only Nintendo manage to stay interresting only because of their IPs. I've the feeling that Sony/Xbox have almost no real own IPs, most of the time they only pay studios to get temporary exclusivities... I know PC for gamers are expansive but when you think about all the other things you can do with a good PC, you can literally centralize everything. I don't see the reason to pay $800 for a PS5 ++ that will be replaced in probably 2 years by a PS6, people who gonna buy that console are probably people who have already spent money in a PS5 at his release, $500 + $800 = $1300 and don't forget the devices that you must buy (extra gamepads + M.2 + their gaming headsets). I think it's becoming more and more interesting to play on a PC nowadays, it remains more expansive but it's more versatile and don't forget you can still play to all your previous purchased games from the past (ex: with sony you can't play to your ps3 games on a ps5).

$699.00 okay fine but what game is on the platform worth spending that kinda loot over? People are already saying this is the worse gen in console history and sony is just proving that. I can understand owning a pc and saying sure I'll upgrade from a gtx 1660 to a rtx 3070 because it wil make sense. PlayStation already is a good device not great but it works and then some.
