It's been over 10 years since the first PlayStation All-Stars. With how far the brand has come since then, can Sony finally make a sequel worthy of being called a Smash competitor?

That is true, but the real question will be will Sony even allow it? They already wrote off the game as a failure (when they basically caused it to fail by not giving it advertising and even cutting Superbot Entertainment out). And even if they did, there's a good chance they will do it again for one reason or another.

Late response, but I can't say I completely agree with the mindset that went into this. I don't think an All-Stars roster should just be mainstream characters, some obscure characters would add more spice to the roster as Smash did in the past. Fat Princess, for example, while I get she's often cast aside, I have heard good things about her og game and did receive a cameo in Astro's Playroom.

There is Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. He would be a great choice for PSAS as well as Wanderer in Shadow of the Colossus. Third-Party characters that Smash Ultimate has would be interesting, but with different characters for PSAS. Lara Croft would be a great addition for the roster. Any Resident Evil character are fine additions. Any Final Fantasy character in PSAS would be a solid addition. Crash & Spyro are 50/50 since they are going to be owned by Microsoft later this year.

Crash and Spyro are very likely to be in PlayStation All-Stars 2. It doesn't matter if they're owned by Microsoft, but Microsoft can let Sony use both of them in PlayStation All-Stars 2.

I dont like the idea of cutting any of the roster from the first game, but especially Nariko and Fat Princess. Nariko was incredibly fun and keeping "weirder" characters like Fat Princess that bring such great variety to the game is important to me.

Characters that I would love to see in Playstation allstar 2: -Aya Brea (Parasite eve series, tho. Her moveset would be more base on her two original games while some extra animation like dodge roll would be referencing 3rd birthday and pretty much outfits from all three games) -Shadow the Hedgehog -Ty the tasmanian tiger. -Crash -Spyro -Zero (Megaman Zero, I know Megaman X Zero is iconic, but a little variority would not hurt, also, Zero in Megaman Zero has moves similar to his X counterpart anyway) -Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria) -Raven (Gravity Rush) -Nero (DMC5, also, I think it’s rather obvious reboot Dante returns as a costure for Dante) -Klonoa -Spiderman (Both Peter and Miles) -Cloud (FF7) -Lightning (FF13) -Noctis (FF15) - 2b or a2 (Nier autómata) -Delsin Rowe (Infamous second son)

@@illford He appeared in a Capcom vs SNK as a secret Character you can play as in SNK vs Capcom chaos (An x-box and ps2 game). He also appeared alonside Megaman.EXE in Onimusha balde warriors and that was a Ps2 game. Pretty sure MMZ could still appear in a crossover like Playstation All-Stars. While Im fine with X zero, a little variety would not hurt.

I have to disagree with Fat Princess getting the axe. She may be a strange addition, but weird picks like her get people talking, plus she's kind of the face of PSASBR, as nearly every video on the subject just drops her in the thumbnail. It's like the Ice Climbers in Smash, it just fits the game in a strange cosmic way.

Fat Princess is NOT an odd addition. She's a PS exclusive character from a great game. I think the odd additions are imo: Big Daddy Reboot Dante/Donte Isaac Clark (DLC) Evil Cole (could have just made one Cole with "switch karma" button where Good Cole switches to Evil Cole and vice versa)

I have to agree, especially Big Daddy, since it was added to promote BioShock Infinite, a game it would not appear in until the Burial at Sea DLC saw its first half released a year after this game). In fact, other than Heihachi, most of the third-party characters basically had their roster spots bought, as it is said that Konami, Capcom, and 2K actually paid Sony to have Raiden, Reboot Dante, and Big Daddy added to promote Metal Gear Rising: Revengance, DMC: Devil May Cry, and BioShock Infinite.

Have you ever played the game before claiming it is a clone? I can confirm that after playing the game for far over 2000 plus hours that it is completely different from smash. They have various kill confirms, fighting systems, and maps. You must use skills to defeat your opponent instead than just pressing buttons, or you will be punished. Timing and anticipating your opponent's next move are crucial in smash. To defeat your opponent in PASBR, you must level up your special bar to 1, 2, or 3. With smash, you must inflict enough damage on your opponent to the point of one hitting them. Similar to Tekken, the game uses a combo hit system where you trap your opponent in an action, preventing them from acting unless you mess up the sequence and they manage to escape. In PASBR, you will be punished for smashing buttons, therefore it's a good idea to become familiar with each character's skill set. You are free to button mash in Smash Bros., and the punishment is only getting one or two free hits. It irritates me to watch videos of the game being critiqued by KZbinrs that have little to no experience with it and have only ever played for a short while to put a video together.

I would honestly be down for a PSAS sequel, but I think it should be either a traditional Vs. style fighting game (akin to both the Marvel vs. Capcom series and Dragon Ball FighterZ; they could even get Arc System Works to come in and develop the game) or an arena fighter like Capcom's Power Stone. Either of those two would be the most ideal. And since Nintendo hates competitive Smash Bros, Sony could have this PS All-Stars reboot be competitive friendly.

If its an arena fighter then it's not going to be a very competitive game. Arena Fighters are usually button masters. The only successful competitive ones are Kill La Kill and Gundam. They just aren't as respected as competitive games due to a lack of depth

Love everything you said about about the roster for a potential sequel,however, I think in terms of cut characters, Raiden should remain in the base roster. I think his move sets could be tweaked a little or improved since he’s someone that can do close up and range attacks, whether in a platform fighter or a 2D fighting arena. Plus he made his debut in MGS2 which was also a PlayStation 2 exclusive from a franchise that originated from the playstation one era.

The thing about Reboot Dante is that he was there at the behest of Capcom as they originally wanted Classic Dante since, for a long time, Devil May Cry was a PS2-exclusive series so it makes sense to have him there. I also find the idea of cutting characters out because "they're not iconic" really weird, especially since some of them are "weird" picks like Fat Princess... but doesn't Smash also do that? Put weird picks like Wii Fit Trainer and Piranha Plant? Why can't PlayStation All-Stars also have oddball characters? And cutting Nariko out is a bit weird as well since she was one of the few female characters in the roster and her game was a PS3 exclusive that was hyped at the time so I dont' see any reason to cut her out. And I really don't see Joel and Ellie making it because I highly doubt Neil "We Don't Believe In Fun" Druckmann would allow the characters from his "masterpiece of super duper serious storytelling" to be in a game where they would fight Parappa the Rapper. Also, I don't see Spiderman ever appearing because, well, he's not a videogame character, it's the same reason why Smash doesn't have characters like Goku or SpongeBob, he might have a critically acclaimed PS4 game but that doesn't mean he has a chance.

I don't like cutting out Zeus (as well as Nariko and Fat Princess, but mainly Zeus.) One of my biggest gripes with Playstation Allstars was that there was only 1 character per franchose in the first game. This is like saying that Bowser and Ganondorf should not have been in Super Smash Bros Melee. I want to see more representation from some of the longer lived series.

The only reason I'm hesitant about Spider-Man is because of the possible effects future rights issues could have on this hypothetical game's availability. We're still feeling the effects of what happened to all of Capcom's Marvel fighting games and mvc, having gone without official ports of any of the games prior to UMVC3 for many years now. Unfortunately, there's no game too big, too popular, or too beloved to be delisted. I do, however, feel that Spidey would be an awesome dlc pick. In the event the character may need to be removed due to details behind the scenes getting muddy, all that would need to go would be one dlc character rather than an entire game going down with it.

I think the super system could be kept however instead of it being the only way to kill opponents it will just be the final smash meter from smash ultimate so we can have stages with actual blast zones instead of just big boxes

personally would love Delsin Rowe (another inFamous rep so we can keep good karma Cole, while using Del as the evil karma rep, and a temporary power-copy move would be fun!), Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, the protag from Sunset Overdrive (they own that now!), Kutaro from Puppeteer and a Helldiver as a replacement for the hole Emmett left for the "setup/space control" archetype as first party. Rivet as a Ratchet skin sounds cute too :) maybe Squall (FFVIII), King from Tekken (personally i want another grappler) in place of Heihachi, Etna/Laharl from Disgaea since it went big on PSP and Majima from LaD would work as third-parties too

Probably not Noctice since Tekken already has a him in their game as a crossover. I'm also not sure about Rayman considering he's guess staring in Brawlhalla. I want to give push back on it just being a smash clone. Smash at its core works better as a party game mash up. Playstation Allstars actually worked better as a one on one fighter.

The thing with Fat Princess is that she is a PlayStation character. Her games were associated on PlayStation so it’s not a strange choice for her to be in it. Same goes to Raiden from Metal Gear Rising as Metal Gear itself was more remembered as a PlayStation franchise despite having some Nintendo games as well as originating from the MSX. Zeus makes sense to be in the game as well as he’s the main villain of God of War 2 and 3. Nariko & Emmett Graves are definitely strange choices, especially when their games aren’t fondly remembered compared to a majority of the games the characters are from, so I could call them strange choices, but Smash Bros is known for having strange choices so I don’t mind them being included in PlayStation All-Stars. The only characters I feel like made less sense are Big Daddy & Issac Clarke. Sure every Dead Space and Bioshock game were on the PlayStation 3, but because their games started off as exclusives for the XBOX 360, most people would remember playing those games on the 360 more than the PS3… heck I think most prefer the 360 versions because the PS3 versions aren’t as good compared to it.

for me, honestly the roster wasn't that big in the first game so for me everyone comes back and returns (but out of all the cuts you've suggested imo raiden was the worst, it would make no sense to cut raiden, especially given how big the character has grown in popularity especially as of lately) i don't have any huge wants with the roster, but some additions i'd like are maybe spiderman, maybe some sonic reps like sonic and knuckles, and personally i'd add some more ape escape characters especially the protags from ape escape 3, spyro and crash i'd love but i don't know if playstation is gonna make the deal or not, rayman would be an addition i'd love, but all your suggestions were good too i just don't have much of a connection with alot of those characters but still i'm still happy i got 1 ape escape character and Jak and daxter so the roster is fine as long as it keeps those great video, you've earned a sub

Of the characters you suggested be cut, I'd only agree with Big Daddy and Isaac Clarke. Raiden being a MGS character makes him important to PlayStation, and the others you suggested are first-party characters who have connections to the brand, even if they're a bit obscure.

The first game had a terrible roster. Astro Bot got me thinking off all those cameos, and just how many characters could appear in PSASBR 2. Iv made my own list of who I think should appear. My rules were just one character per franchise, and only franchises that have been exclusive to PlayStation, or a couple have some sort of unique history with playstation. Iv got 78 so far.
