PlayStation Buying Bungie Has Been a COLOSSAL FAILURE

So Microsoft Buys Zenimax with Tango included as a BONUS. They come up with a small NEW IP that didn’t sell well, studio gets closed and everybody goes crazy, doom and gloom etc. But Sony buys Bungie a KNOWN studio on purpose along with a well known IP. It’s received well but then a bunch of people get laid off and it’s a positive/not a big deal?? What timeline are we in?

I hope Sony don't think Marathon will sell much, because Doom wiped the floor with Marathon in the 1990's. Majority of Doom players never even heard of Marathon as it were a obscurity. Anyway. Developers needs to think more than twice before selling themselves to Sony who never kept their promises since PS1 days. When Sony bought over 250 upcoming multiplatform games in 1995, they said a lot of them would still be multiplatform, but in reality 100% became PS1 exclusive.

Bungie lost a ton of players when Destiny 2 released. They were still doing good, but on the classic decline of a gaming studio that couldn't change. Then Sony asked them to do a massive pivot and do something that they had no chance of doing. If I was working there, I would have felt that sick feeling that workers under threat all know about.

The Purchase was a 'power' move for Sony after MS bought Bethesda, I remember the Ponies thinking that meant Halo was coming to PS5, not realising that MS owns the IP and not Bungie. Its unfortunate that people are going to lose their jobs, very unfortunate. The only upside to this is that when Sony tries to purchase another developer... they'll be like "OH HELL NO!!!". This is going to be the death of the PS brand for sure.

This is not unusual for poor performing companies in Japan. Iwata was not the only one that took a pay cut. Executive leadership will take pay cuts, not just the CEO, to avoid layoffs. They also get paid a lot less than your typical CEOs.
