Unless this is under $100 this is one of the most baffling things a major console maker has ever made. Austin is 100% right, a year from release stores will just be giving these away with regular PS5 purchases and selling them for like $50 bucks to just dump stock like they did with the PSTV and the PS1 classic. Unless the packaging is VERY clear, or they expect stores to give every parent and grand parent a lecture on what this thing is, a bunch of kids are going to be opening their Christmas presents to reveal a brick they can't use because mommy and daddy thought this was just a cheaper handheld version of a PS5.

Same, they would've had they're feet planted FIRMLY in the rapidly growing handheld market demand,. But instead they decided to throw money in the garbage, advertising it as a remote play ONLY device means it's not only worse than any other smartphone or handheld, but even if they do turn around 3 months from now and add cloud or native gaming support it wouldn't matter. people would've already heard the original remote play only announcement and used it as confirmation to buy pull the trigger on a different handheld device like a steam deck, or heck just upgraded their cell phone lol.

This is not $100. The dual sense alone is $70? The Dualsense Edge is $200. This would cost probably at least $300 and it will be locked down to only run as a remote play device. Might as well just get a controller for your Android phone with the PSplay app.

Imo, probably because the switch is doing so well, PS decided to not compete with Switch. Most japanese devs are now developing for both PS5 and switch, and most people can buy 2 or 3 consoles nowadays. It is very possible for alot of people to have both PS5 and Switch

The back bone cost $100 and it have a $50 yearly subscription fee. For you to stream games over the ps5 you need a ps5 and you have to pay the PlayStation $60 yearly subscription fee. And can play any other games over your 4G or 5G connection on the go. That thing cost $200-$300 and it have a $60 yearly subscription fee and require you to have a ps5 for it to work and can only be used at home or over a very good Wi-Fi connection. I would say your looking at spending almost the same price for both. At this point it’s like apple phone and android phones. They both do the same thing but have very small differences.

@@eig1979 Nope, issue is awful. Between my friend and I we’ve gone through 5 controllers and we aren’t rage gamers at all. And the big issue is Sony is a pain to deal with in terms of returns. So if this is actually built with the same parts as the Dual Sense then it’s going to have the same issues and a lot of angry customers. Especially if this costs more than a controller which it almost certainly will.

There is no hardware to do anything though. It's just going to be a screen with a very low power chip with wifi inside to stream the video signal. Other than people hacking it to stream other consoles, their won't be anything interesting to do with it.

THAT'S EXACTLY MY POINT! They fumbled the announcement so bad because even if they were planning on adding support for cloud and native gaming in the future, they ruined it by announcing it as a remote play only device. People are going to read the headlines and say "Wow yeah that's lame, steam deck it is I guess" and if this is them experimenting with handheld hardware while they're working on a handheld OS and subscription service, by the time they launch everyone is gonna be like "What was that? sorry no thanks I already bought a steam deck, ally, ect." Not to mention you can just buy a 120hz OLED android tablet for 150 bucks, throw a backbone one on it for $100 and boot up remote play on it and get a better looking display with native and cloud gaming support for $50 more.

This products probably works with cloud gaming, but is not part of the marketing because the only thing you can cloud game in playstation right now are PS4 and PS3 games on PS Plus. But eventually Sony will start to use cloud gaming for PS5 games also.

Using my phone or deck for remote play always seemed clunky. A dedicated device with a larger screen, real controller and fully optimized to work the best the technology allows does interest me. Battery life should be really good as well. If its under $199 it would be a buy for me but it will probably go for $299.

Buying the Q day 1, my iPhone mini can't push remote play without the battery dying. All I ever wanted was a dedicated device to stream remote play and get my trophies! The controller ends look way more comfortable than an 8bitdo with a clip and less cumbersome than a full controller with an iPad. Really excited for this, assuming its $200 or less.

Price dependant, I would love this thing. It's like undocking your Switch (around the house only, but still) which is how I've been able to play more games to completion than I have on PS4. Switch around the house is like 90% of all my gaming. If I can add some PS5 to that, ot would be incredible (I also hope there's some kind of dedicated connection, I hate the Remote Play app)

People saying they’ll buy it if it’s $75-$100 are so baffling to me, that’s literally the price of a PS5 controller on its own. Add the cost of a screen, battery and processor and I’d place the cost somewhere around $200-$300.

The issue isn't how much it costs to make the issue is what people would pay for it. The PS VR 2 is priced decently for the parts involved in making it the issue is very few people want to spend that much for it so no one buys it. Sony is designing a product that will have to be at a price point no one will want to pay so its a bad product to make. Its the same reason the 4K switch isn't going to come out because to make a profit off of a 4k switch it would cost more then people would pay for it so Nintendo didn't make one. Similarly Microsoft had their Project Keystone which was a game streaming stick that got canceled because they couldn't justify its price point.

Idk guys I would buy this depending on the price. I'm not saying I remote play at work but I never travel with my PS5. I just bring my laptop, mini pc , and even on a Nvidia Shield and remote play some where other then my house and it works very well when network is good on both ends but it absolutely should have the option to use an ethernet for less packet loss on crappy wifi connections. I've been working on getting my Nvidia Shield Portable to work with the remote play app. Currently the OS is to old so I can only stream PS4.

Yeah my guess is they just want to get the hardware in people's hands right now, while developing some sort of OS or subscription service to sell with it. The only and probably the biggest issue here is the all in one handheld market it still in it's infancy in consequentially it's most crucial point in development, if people read this and see "remote play only" even if they do add support for cloud and native gaming in the future, people are probably just going to see this first announcement and say "Yeah they fumbled, I guess I'll just go get that steam deck I was holding out on" and never look in Sony's direction again.

It's using wifi, there is going to be no magic optimization happening lol Got shitty wifi? You'll get a shitty laggy experience. The only thing they can optimize is compressing the signal to minimize the chance of that happening. If it's just what is advertised on the tin, we've had this for ages and it works fine. Nothing Sony is going to do is going to magically make it different or better. It's a very simple concept we've nailed for ages.

There is no need for optimization at all for local cloud in local network. All you're getting is Dualsense's functionality in a smartphone that only does remote play.

I am dying to know if it can stream the video without internet. If it works wireless similar to the Wii U gamepad (with over Wi-Fi optionally) I’m grabbing one. If it’s 100% internet reliant that sucks.

This make sense only, if it lets you stream your ps5 games locally using direct WiFi to avoid latency from cloud gaming servers. If this has negative latency it will be a hit!

Notice the word "Lite " in the name project Q lite. I could see Sony releasing a later software update that could hold possibilities of digital download gaming, given they install some kind of a card reader for memory within the devise as well as Maby some kind of reader for a 'Vita" style card in gaming. I would be willing to say what we see now is the ground base model. for now.

i think this device is made for like families that want to use the TV. it feels like a extension/accessoiry to the ps5 just like the media remote.

Okay, so I'm of the group that are keeping a close eye on this one - primarily because I particularly use Remote Play quite often as a parent gamer that typically has all the screens in the house being used by the children and wife. And I love being able to play from anywhere in the house while still being able to be present, but I always find myself missing the features the DualSense brings while using the BackBone w/ my iPhone. Also, gratuitous violence isn't typically the most appropriate thing to have blown up on a 70 inch screen while my child plays with playdough in the same room. However, I believe the success of this device really will come down to two components - the perceived versatility and value of the device dependent on the individual user --- and the price per value. They are 100% right to be concerned about the price. Hopefully Sony will be justifying the price based on the end result of what this thing will be capable of. AT BASE VALUE: If this thing truly turns out to be just a DualSense with a screen, no real UI other than once it powers on, it immediately begins pairing w/ your system - the value for me personally, would be the benifit of having the features of the DualSense itself while playing remotely. What can I justify paying at this value? Not more than maybe $150 USD. At this point, it will be a glorified controller. Still interesting, just not worth a high price tag. If it passes $200, it will flop. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE: Now, if Sony just takes this current design, but adds the ability to download games to the device, like say from the PS Classics collection, really fleshing out the new subscription service benifits. This would be a game changer for me in particular with being able to revisit my old favorites. And if they really want to get cookin' with this thing, they'll add a compatible dock for the portable, and allow to connect via HDMI and upscale the picture for your larger TV, thus having the ability to utilize your PS5 from any screen in the house. From this standpoint, I could potentially justify paying $300-$400+ for this handheld. But until more information gets released, all of what anybody says regarding potential price and value for the cost will 100% be based off just speculation and no solid information. I want this thing. I travel a lot and I'd love to try and use this on WiFi at hotels or where my connection is good enough. The dedicated screen and the nice controller appeal to me.

@@johnbevill128no he just have to leave his PS5 on sleep mode on his home. Then he would be able to activate it from anywhere using wi-fi . But still the point that this is over wi- fi is worrying it isn’t a direct connection to your PS5 like the Wii U , it is a connection over your Wi-Fi Network is unless you are tech savvy and very financially stable is very unstable to say the least, and if you count for it on Hotel Internet you better be staying at places with really high internet speeds which are not to many given that Hotel franchises pay for the cheapest internet and even at Five Stars hotels I have stayed at , netflix have buffered for a few seconds due to network congestion . This product is horrible😂

What hotels do you stay at that have good enough WiFi? I have tried x-cloud and Geforce now and the speeds are never good enough at any hotel to handle games that require fast reflexes.

Im curious why most the features on ps5 controller only work on the ps5 and not other devices. Couldn’t software fix it.
