Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is my under rated game that I love. It came out around the time of Skyrim and I think just got overlooked and then the publisher went bust I think so any plans of a sequel went out the window. Shame, it’s a really interesting world.

funny coming from a guy like me who usually like's dark brutal games like the soulsborne series and salt and sanctuary or epic fantasy rpgs like skyrim, but I actually quite liked Fat Princess Adventures. I thought Mad Max was brilliant - the story was good, the characters were good, the world was amazing, the combat was great... really loved it!
@kayce8516 жыл бұрын
Mad Max is definitely a good PSN freebie, but it's a mediocre title. It has a pretty bad case of Open World Syndrome. The problem with Mad Max lies in how few ways you can interact with the game world. They came up with about 5 different things for you to do in the world and just dotted the landscape with those 5 things 20-50 times. For other cases of OWS, see Mass Effect Andromeda, or the Patient Zero for OWS, Assassin's Creed 1.
@evildrganymede6 жыл бұрын
kayce851 gee, thanks for pointing out how wrong I am for really enjoying a game that you don't like. I don't know where I'd be without your words of wisdom.
@kayce8516 жыл бұрын
It's an alright game. The car combat and upgrading the Opus is pretty fun. The fisticuffs were essentially ported from the Arkham/Shadow of Mordor so they were solid if not a little stale. I'm not saying you're wrong, I had some fun with the game. I'm just calling an egg an egg. I don't like seeing open world games that don't put enough focus on content and interactivity. If Red Dead 2 was as sparse as Mad Max I'd take a bit of a dump on that too. I'm just warning others about what they're getting into. It's nowhere near as bad as original Assassin's Creed (which was a tech demo more than a game).
@evildrganymede6 жыл бұрын
Well they were asking what our favourite underrated gems were. I agreed with them about Mad Max and I really enjoyed it myself - what you think are its flaws didn't affect my enjoyment of it. But I don't think it's even really an open world RPG - games like Fallout or Skyrim (which I think are open world RPGs) are different beasts to games like Assassin's Creed, Shadow of Mordor, and Mad Max - so I think you're trying to put it in the wrong box to start with and then criticising it for not being that.
@kayce8516 жыл бұрын
I'm not at all comparing it to a Bethesda game. If they were trying to make Mad Max: Skyrim it'd probably be great because Skyrims come along so infrequently. Mad Max is a victim of being the 25th game of this type in the last decade after The Arkhams, Assassins Creeds, Farcrys and what have you. This is a genre that has been done to death and is in dire need of innovation. I'm not going to give Mad Max a pass for being decent in a stale genre. They should've put way more emphasis on what made Mad Max unique, the car combat, and way less on punching stuff (I felt like I spent 90% of my time in combat punching things). More enemy vehicle variety, more vehicle combat options, like boarding to disable enemy vehicle parts while AI drives the Opus, more vehicle weapons with loadouts for give/take strategy to produce a deeper system that wasn't just remove armor, harpoon wheel. Combine this with more scripted and meaningful unscripted vehicle combat (besides caravans) and we'd have something. Or they could've done something other than what AC/Arkham/Shadows of Mordor did with combat to make it feel more fresh (Horizon did a good job with this).

My underrated game is Gladius for the Ps2. Dispite being released in 2001 it’s still my most played game today and the sole reason I play my ps2 more than my PS4 today. The story is a bit meh and the quests aren’t much, but the combat is fantastic. It’s a turn based game with a grid and facing system, swing meters, class and different types within these classes. In fact, I’ve got so good at the game over the years I have to apply cheats to up the difficulty or purposefully hinder myself on playthroughs. This was the first game I got into because of my dad about thirteen years ago and I know it inside out, every move, every swing meter, I have my set gladiator school of 16 (there’s a limit of twenty but why get what you don’t need). I’ve played the last of us, all mass effects, halo, Star Wars battle front 2 (the ps2 version of course), numerous final fantasies, the new xcom series and horizon zero dawn to name a few but nothing holds a candle to Gladius for me, and probably nothing ever will.

kws2534 Great shout out. Hands down the best characters and story that Amy Hennig has ever made. Funny thing, I just recently finished Shadow of the Colossus remake, and my first thoughts were about how incredibly awesome would it be to see The pillars of Nosgoth, The tomb of the Serafan or the Spectral realm in general, remade with the same care and passion.

I would love a remaster for current gen consoles. One of my all time favourite series I own all the figures, loved those games.
@kayce8516 жыл бұрын
Yes. Yes. Yes. This would absolutely be my answer too. I adored the series, a great story from Amy Hennig, and perhaps the best early voice work in gaming from Simon Templeman, Micheal Bell, and Tony Jay. You're right about Blood Omen 2, there were some interesting ideas in there, but man the execution was clunky as hell (skip that one folks). It's a shame the IP is more or less dead (though Nosgoth came out on PC, it wasn't originally designed as a LoK game and has no narrative). I'd love for there to be a revival of the series. As cool as it'd be to get remasters, I simply don't have time to replay an old game like that when there's so much good new stuff. I have a few games I bought months ago, still in plastic, waiting for me to finish God of War.

Hollie's reference to a master-ball is the first time I've ever heard PA mention a Non-Playstation title directly. I LOVE playstation, but I like to see they play\have played other things. I understand not focusing or highlighting anything but playstation; and, I respect the continuity. I understand representing a very competitive company; but, I really do think using a competitors work\ideas\mechanics as a comparing and contrasting tool would simplify things. As well spoken as everyone on this channel is, I think in certain instances it makes more sense to do a quick nod than it does to write up something long-winded and witty. Omikron: The Nomad Soul. An early game by Quantic Dream featuring David Bowie. No other game out there lets you go to underground David Bowie concerts while exploring a distopian city buried under an ice age in a parallel world. It had some serious janky issues but I loved it all the same. Originally they asked if they could license some of his songs for the game but he told them he'd rather write some new ones for it and he created the album Hours. A truly unique _very_ early sandbox game.

Here's mine: *"Bastion"* courtesy of Origin Games. Gameplay is great, story is intruiging, art is unique and beautiful, and the soundtrack is wonderful (especially one song in particular that gets a special rendition at the credits). Also, things change depending on what you do; the narrations, the events, and the ending. It's impossible to hear all the narrator's different lines in one playthrough, and what's awesome is that after you beat the game once, you can play through again and keep all your items and experience for the second game. You don't have to, but it's there as an option. All and all, I was expecting an 8/10, but Bastion gets a solid 10/10 for me.

Mirrors Edge: Catalyst is such a fun game that I don't understand the hate for. Also I understand Hollie's pain, because just yesterday I lost my wallet on a bus, except that has my money and ID and way too much stuff I need daily.

Mad Max DEFINITELY belongs there, it's a true gem and is absolutely gorgeous, one of the most screenshot-able game i've ever played. I would add Technomancer, a sci-fi a-RPG develloped by (the infamous) Spider which got bad reviews when he came out (it is rather... unpolished) but is actually VERY enjoyable and has a great story and setting.

My pick would be Rain, an indie style game that came out alongside Journey. It's haunting, beautiful and involves a really interesting and unique mechanic.

Don't normally be that guy to comment on looks, but you are looking wonderful Hollie. You are more vibrant and the not-so-much makeup suits you better. Also, good pick! I liked Oceanhorn.

Heavenly Sword. It was in my PS3 bundle. Very underrated game that I thought should have smashed the charts. Beautiful looking game, great story, brilliant cast and acting, fighting mechanics spot imo, the use of motion control when shooting arrows aaaaaand Andy Serkis. I doubt it will get a remaster, but if it did.....

Underrated gem.... I'd have to go for the misadventures of tron bonne. Flipping loved those servbots. Training them was fun in minigames. Good mix of puzzles and action. I really must play that again!

I adore that Nathan's pick was Dying Light! That is truly a wonderful title, with so much to do, and such a good story; the scares are real, the tension is thick, and the payoff is gold. I have played that game multiple times, and recommend it to anyone. My pick would be be The Suffering on PS2. Gorgeous horror game so full of lore that you NEED to 100% it because you actually want to know what brought you there. Dialogue is good, inner monologue is better, and the antagonists feel interesting and original. Any time I mention this game as one of my favorites, it's rare that someone has actually played it. The disc is still inside my PS2, waiting to be played again, and I consider it often.

No mention of Suikoden yet? This series was awesome! No other JRPG contained nearly as many playable characters to recruit into your party and choose from
