Also also, Angel's Grace's "this turn" effect ends during that turn's cleanup step immediately after discarding to hand size (both being turn-based actions), so she dies to the Bloodchief's Ascension triggers during the cleanup step anyways (unless she has anything to do with priority after the triggers go on the stack), plus priority goes around even after she dies during the 'phantom' cleanup step after all the triggers are done resolving. No matter how you slice it, she dies that turn (very sad)

Hey, Lua. I just wanted to let you know so you know the interaction later. The Angels’s Grace only would have made you not lose during your turn. You should have gone to negative life because Angel’s Grace only keeps you at 1 life against damage but Bloodchief Ascension is a Lose Life ability. You were already staring down your One Ring trigger anyways. Either way you played one hell of a game!

Loved watching this game, absolute blast seeing y’all play and I loved the chemistry between everyone! Couple things I noticed, first I think Crem missed a Talion trigger off of OB early on (don’t think that would’ve mattered). Second, Angel’s Grace specifically says “DAMAGE that would reduce life below 1,” but Bloodchief Ascension is life loss, so sadly Lua would have died at the end of her turn. Luckily she didn’t interact with Dylan, so I don’t think it would have ended up mattering, although it definitely could have had things gone differently

I believe Crim missed a Talion trigger for Dylan’s Orcish Bowmasters and later Lua should have died at the beginning of the next turn (Angels Grace doesn’t prevent all loss of life, just loss of life from damage). It always makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one to miss triggers and make mistakes plus it’s still a very fun game to watch.

I don't think angel's grace works quite the way it's being explained @ 20:20. Since bloodchief ascension causes loss of life and not damage Lua goes to 0 and doesn't lose until cleanup step where angel's grace wears off right? Sorry if I'm totally wrong I'm just confused and wondering if maybe there's a gap in my rules comprehension

Ok this is such an interesting interaction I have to talk about it. Bloodchiefs is life loss so Lua will go into the negatives and die in dylans upkeep yes, but something more interesting is that the damage effect of angels grace wears off in the first cleanup step, so even if bloodchiefs was damage it would still kill Lua since she discards then the effect wears off and then we put the blood chief triggers on the stack and then there is another cleanup and she would die then (except she can’t lose the game this turn so she dies in Dylan’s upkeep). So angels grace doesn’t do anything here since all the life loss is happening post cleanup. Magic is weird.

until end of turn effects end at the cleanup step after the active player discards to hand size. Then the game checks state based actions and if any triggered abilities need to go on the stack. CR514. The “you can’t lose the game this turn” clause of angels grace is different, however, since it doesn’t explicitly say “until end of turn”. It’s a small difference but here it matters.

In addition to what others have mentioned about angels grace preventing damage not loss of life, I believe that since angels grace is an until end of turn affect, and the bloodchiefs ascension wouldn’t trigger till the cleanup step after end of turn affects are cleared, either way it wouldn’t have saved her(other than preventing her from losing before crims upkeep)
