This makes sense. I recently learned to control my FH and now my BH is messed up. I was making the mistake of stalking the ball on both sides. I now know both strokes are different in their takebacks. Thank you for highlighting this. Keep up the good work.

Scott's pendulum BH reminds me a little of Lendl's forehand motion...I know there is no relation in context. Love the sense of humor guys, it truly adds to the content. Nate, hope you're doing better with your wrist. Have a great weekend guys. Cheers!

racket take back early, i agree, but i think it still can be a fluid motion, like a forehand. look at zverev, his incredible backhand looks nearly like lefty forehand. this ist not meant to disagree with your tipp though, early take back of the racket is muy importante, amigos. thanks and saludos

Agreed. Funny I’m struggling with my backhand and this comes up. I’ve been doing the unit turn thing as discussed and my balls been going into the net like crazy. It feels natural but no control. Contrary, early take back provides more control for me but it just feels robotic. Will try the latter and make some adjustments as recommended here. Good vid

@@bmanbusee3812 my backhand improved a lot by practicing a lefty forehand in front of the wall. five strokes only left arm, then two or so with both, and so on. by doing that i learned to put more power, trust and feel on my left arm and with the time backhand became even stronger than by forehand.

and of course i am talking about a classic/modern forehand with a nice loop with the left arm, and not about the the next gen forehand with so much wrist action and "tap the dog" power position

No worries at all, we welcome feedback! There's no problem incorporating the loop on the backhand as you would on the forehand as Zverev does. The issue comes in when players pause in their unit turn on the backhand, like they do on their forehand. Hope this helps clarify the instruction. Thanks for watching!

What if the ball goes out wide and you have to move a number of steps to the left to get to it? When do you take the racquet back then?
@Playyourcourt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elan, great question. You'll initiate the a partial unit turn as your hustling to the ball. If you're hitting with a closed stance, the racket take back will just before you plant your front foot. By chance your hitting open stance, you won't take the racket back nearly as far but will time the same firing mechanism when your outside foot lands. Hope this helps!

Watch again. The left elbow placement is what matters. Don't think about the racquet, just the left elbow.

Stay with it Jorge and you'll get your backhand where you want it. Try to simplify things. Remember on the backhand less is always more!

you are talking linear swing on the Backhand. going back, swinging forward. why not a circular one? of course, you would need to be fast enough to complete the circle and still hit the ball in front, but I don't see the problem if you prepare soon enough. the same U shape as in forehand. i don't see much difference in hands/arms and upper body action on F/B, I see more legs set up difference. when I think backhand, I always see golf stroke, just on the other side.

exactly! a lot of backhands look like a lefty forehand, many pro women backhands look like that. but of course we are not talking about the "next gen forehand" it´s more about the classic/modern forehand with a nice loop on the left.
