A one of Underrealm Lich might be kind of nice as an alternative to the Vraska. Turns every Horizon Canopy into a Graveyard-Brainstorm, has synergy with being able to recur fetches. Might be worth some testing.

About the sidboard: If you are a real "mid-range-killer", I'd cut any cards that make you win that even more.As probably already known by now, any deck needs its surgical extractions in its sideboard. Let him Gifts, you remove all Past in flames or whatever else breaks him. Also getting a tron land is hot, so is Bloodghast and friends or even that KCI-deck. They never see it coming. (well, they do, but they mostly cannot do much about it)Also languish seems somewhat strange. Do you really want to let all the zombie fish alive? Nah? Thought so!Maybe try one Infernal Reckoning, if any artifact deck, eldarzi or even hollow ones cross your way. Also: I really like your deck and hope you show us how combo spanks you. That gives us more food for thought about sideboard construction.

Languish allows us to keep Frogs and Demons and sometimes trackers around post Languish. Gurmag is so rarely an issue atm, with only one deck really playing him. I think Surgical is probably better than Leyline for the most part.

Splash white in the sideboard, play all the good white hate cards like stony silence and RIP. Path to exile is probably also pretty good here since that puts you up to 12 "search for basic" effects and nobody except merfolk is playing 12 basic lands. Could even board into mind censor and get the land destruction plan down early against control decks

It is a strange thing indeed that the Legacy and Vintage feel less crazy than Modern. The gut reaction would be that the formats with access to more crazy cards would be nothing but combo madness, but nope. Really goes to show how important slow-down cards like FoW, Daze, Baleful and such are. FoW especially is a very strong card, but it makes the formats healthier from what I can see (except for counter-wars, which can have mixed opinions). Being able to say no to degeneracy is important. I wonder how WoTc would change Modern to be more fair, or if they even want to. Printing cards which would slow down the format might fuck up Legacy&Vintage, so might be safer to make select cards available instead.

Daze I would say it's one of my all time favourite, it can be played around to some degree or fully, it sets you up one land wich can be crucial. I'm not expert by any means but I don't think it would break blue in modern wich, is not even that good.

@@MaeseEidos Honestly I'm not sure you can make a non-linear eternal format without blue being a strong colour. They are the ones which have the ability to just say no to a play, through counter-spells mostly, and the only other colour which comes close to that is white IMO (through D&T). The most linear eternal format currently is Modern, which is also the one where blue is weakest. I don't know enough about MtG so say whether that's a coincidence, but it is worth noting. I agree that daze is a great card though. It punishes all-in strategies, but is also a tempo loss (unless hardcasted). Similarly FoW punishes all-in, but will always be a 2-for-1 unless hardcasted. Having the "free" counterspells carry either a tempo or value loss is important, since it makes them weaker in grindy formats where fair decks are supposed to excel.

I feel like there is only one option, put 4x infernal reckoning in your sideboard just to fuck over hollow one decks and affinity... from a more serious standpoint: remove languis nissa, and tragdaddy from your sideboard as they are all part midrange sideboard cards where you already excel, just replace them with dampening sphere. i don't know how i feel about darkblast either, it just doesn't seem like you'd need it vs a lot of matchups. Maybe replace that with infernal recknoning for the lulz?

I can't help thinking this deck would just work better if it was closer to a G/B Rock shell. Heartless Summoning is a trap in modern IMO. A turn 2 do-nothing enchantment just seems worse than playing more removal and hand disruption, not to mention the fact that they are atrocious in multiples. Playing all the Trophys, mainboarding Maelstrom Pulse, adding more Vraskas, and combining those with the pure walue of your Tracker, Excavator, Oracle and Swordtooth ramp/recursion package seems like the making of a more robust deck. I do like those Pulse of Murasa sideboard, nice for the really grindy games.
