I believe it is a question of quality vs quantity. TS4 chose quantity and sacrificed a ton of quality. Not just in terms of swatches and the ability to mix and match two different swatches but also in terms of animations. Haven't you noticed Sims don't even touch dressers to use them? Most objects in TS4 are static and can't be interacted with. Sims interact near objects or in front of objects but not WITH objects.

It's true: TS4 excels in build mode. It's so easy to build. But that's one of the only 2 reasons I use TS4. The other one is because it's easy to create unique looking sims in CAS (something I have never been able to do in TS2, and even less in TS3). I don't really PLAY TS4. The only thing I do is create characters and houses from books I read or movies/tv series I watch and take pictures. If I really want to play, I go back to TS2.

TS4 really nailed the prevention of "same face syndrome" in sims by adding details to presets (monolids, shadows, dimples, etc...) in each facial feature.
@sleekoduck4 жыл бұрын
That's because everyone complained about the frog faced townies in the Sims 2 and kept using Face type 1 or 2 all the time. I literally uploaded my simself one time and several people tried to fix my underbite as soon as they downloaded me. Why bother?
@TRamp944 жыл бұрын
@@sleekoduck Well, I think those people would play with perfect looking sims in any Sims game. And their families would all look the same. But it's their choice. For TS2 I use the same generators that Cindy uses. Sometimes my sims are very beautiful and sometimes they are not. But that's more fun when it comes to have children. What I meant was that in TS4 it's easier to create a sim that, for example, looks like e person in a photograph. At least that's how it is for me. The fact that you can click and drag the face instead of using sliders, makes it easier to make sims exactly how you want them to be. In TS3 I find it very difficult. Even if I work hard on making their face as unique as possible, they all end up looking very similar. And in game they all look very weird, especially when they laugh or cry or get angry.
@sleekoduck4 жыл бұрын
The sims in 3 look strange and I can't put my finger on why because you get so much control over their design in CAS. The faces look round and cartoonish, but they are the most realistic when you look at them. Some of the townies in 4 do not look human, not even by Walmart standards.

There’s also some sims 3 textures and objects in the sims 4 base game. One I noticed right away was a painting that was a part of a sims 3 store pack. Yes, it does have less objects and is far more restrictive, which makes it less fun to enjoy when compared to the newer games, but players I feel like were able to really go for very different house styles when it comes to decorating. This can particularly be seen in the premade neighborhoods, were there were very different styled houses like in Pleasantview the houses are more like typical suburban, Strangetown has a lot of funky lots (the Beaker's lot, the Specter lot, the Curious lot, etc) and then Veronaville has two clashing styles, one being classic european styled homes and the other being more mediterranean styled. And you know, being the Sims 2 fanatic player that I am, I'm going to give it points for that 😂

We don't have actual split levels in TS 4. Also personally I prefer buy mode in TS 2 and 3. The Sims 4 may have more items, but honestly most of those items are purely decorative, some doesnt even provide personality to the room. More often than not I find myself wondering what to do in game because there is nothing to do. Yet my room is fully decorated. It is because apart from "view" or "sit" there are no other interaction to most of the items. TS2 or 3 may have less items but those items add to the gameplay, so there is always something to do. Quantity is not always better.

I also think that technical limitations plays such a huge roll. If the Sims 2 was made today it would probably be just as good as the Sims 4 (better if it was Sims 2 team working on it) in Build/Buy. In 2020 Sims 2 (and even 3) build/buy might feel a little clunky, but it was so advanced back then. They worked with the tech options they (and their customers) had available to them and it was top notch for a game at the time. Whereas with most aspects of the Sims 4 it feels so limited because better is being done in other games. It only really shines in this regard in comparison to the Sims 2/3. Thanks for such a great video Cindy! 😀

I'm so excited to watch this! I'm new to your channel and really enjoy how thorough your content is. Personally, Sims 4 has my favorite build/buy mode (even though it's by far my least favorite game) and I really appreciate that they've recently added alt-placing doors + windows and multiple windows on each wall tile. But at the same time it did not ship with basic tools we've had since Sims 1/2 - terrain editing, pools, etc. I think TS2 and 3 have pretty comparable systems but I much prefer the art style of Sims 2 furniture, and I actually prefer the customization system over Create a Style. Create a Style is too laggy and provides way too much choice, and I find it stressful to use. Whereas in Sims 2 you had more freedom in customization than in Sims 4 but it's not as overwhelming as Sims 3. Also I don't know if it's just me but the lighting in Sims 3 is terrible! I have to place so many debug lights or else every room looks dark and has gross shadows.

Some things that you missed in build mode, is that sims 2 came with the CFE cheat so you could do split level and terrain forming and ponds. Sims 4 builders complained about that for years. I also heard there are issues with trying to delete walls and having entire rooms delete.
@funnylittlecactus46724 жыл бұрын
I pretty much agree with your rankings. I've recently went back to playing the Sims 3 and I forgot how much I love the color wheel. I think you saved me with the roof building function that controls the individual roofs. I was actually trying to put a roof on today and I was getting very frustrated because I was trying to lower the pitch and every section was going down. I didn't know that tool existed. I do love building in the Sims 4 because they make it so easy, but I can't say the same for the Sims 2 and 3.

i’m surprised you didn’t mention the search option in sims 4 build and buy mode! it was my far my favorite feature along with the ability to move rooms

I call Sims 4 a building simulator, because it's not a very good life simulator, but I do love building in it. What I hate is I like to build neighborhoods and sims 4 limits that A LOT. In Sims 3 the ColorWheel I never really liked everything felt mismatched like when you were kid playing with toys from different sets. Everything almost felt like cc instead of maxis-match, but at least I could add garages/cars. But Sims 2 will always be my favorite even if the buy/build are the worst. :D
@PleasantSims4 жыл бұрын
Lol. Sims 2 is still my favorite game too!
@AiamMaianaise2 жыл бұрын
Sims 3 I believe also had the ability to quite literally drag the colour from one item to another for CAStyle, easily making matching woods/colour schemes etc (either just one colour/texture or the whole colour set) And the ability to save the designs/styles you've made for later use. And because all of this was implemented in game there was no need to download CC when sharing lots.
@ababyharpseal65344 жыл бұрын
TS3 will always be my favourite build/buy purely because of create-a-style, but I love how early-mid 2000s TS2's furniture is. I swear my family has owned some of those couches!
@mannagrynet4 жыл бұрын
Sims 4 make building so easy and I prefer the more colourful and slightly cartoony art style of it to the previous games, however I do really hate not having matching swatches and not being able to change things like bed covers! Thankfully there's CC for that. First thing I do when a new pack comes out is download separate bed covers and frames lol
@MagoosShoe4 жыл бұрын
Despite the fact that you get the most furniture in the Sims 4, I often feel like we have less selection then we even had in the Sims 2 because, as you mentioned, some of the swatches are so weird and unusable. Plus, there's only one set of swatches for items where there should really be really two sets, like I really wish the beds had separate swatches for the bed-frames and the bedding. But EA is like "It's fine, ppl definitely are cool with paying more money for a decrease in the quality of customization, depth, and game-play from past iterations becus the Sims 4 is pretti."

I agree with your analysis. I really enjoy building in the sims 4, it’s intuitive and fun to experiment in, and a lot of the builmode updates make it even more flexible. Although I do miss create a style in the sims 3. It was probably my favorite part of that game since it ran so badly on my computer, I didn’t really play it much.

What I miss from the Sims 2 when I build in S4 build mode is the in-house foundation thing (sorry, English is not my first language and I played in German) with which you were able to build a higher-up section in the rooms. I loved it. Also, the ability to build 5 stories instead of 3 in S4

@adrianblake88763 жыл бұрын
Packs are where you can see the effort the Sims team put into buy mode. The collection section in TS2 greatly expands with each pack adding at least three, even small stuff packs. On the other hand, each pack in TS4 barely added one object collection. LGR points this out by counting just the number of chairs in each pack...

I thought this was a really fair comparison and I understand your final ranking even though I miss the colour wheel of Sims 3, create a pond tool of Sims 2 and 3 and the different swatch areas in Sims 2. ✨ Building and CAS (only for appearance, not personality) is the reason I use Sims 4 but I never life simulate with it, since I just recreate my favourite characters from fandoms, their houses and world in different maps and end up leaving their gameplay a couple days after I set up skills and jobs.
@magargz4 жыл бұрын
I agree with your rankings, the colour wheel was such a delightful thing to use. Even though we didn't have that many objects, when you can change everything but the shape, it feels like a world of options. You can use the same objects in two different rooms and get a totally different vibes just from the colours.

CaS almost makes me pick sims 3 over sims 2 for overall fave sometimes. That feature plus the general scenery are just phenomenal. Being able to have all of my sims’ possessions be personalized was so great. As a vanilla player who’s _still_ kinda scared of mods and cc after a really traumatic (😅) cc incident I experienced over a decade ago when I was new to sims 2, I can’t tell you how frustratingly boring giving my sim babies the same blue, yellow, or pink cribs over and over again is. The other native color options for cribs are too stupid to even entertain save for once in the bluest of bored moons. Literally I’ve only used the cow, camo, and alien sets once each. Anyway, wonderful video! I’m now curious to check how many items came with sims 1. Thank you for the effort you put into making this. Counting all of those objects to me is just... 🤯.

That ‘moving windows and doors anywhere’ thing WOULD be good, except the windows and doors don’t actually work properly. They clip into the walls when you have another one on the same grid tile and you can’t see through them. It sounds like a good feature but it isn’t.

I heard there is some kind of hidden painting and music skills in sims 2, so your sim that has been playing piano whole life will struggle a little with their first paintings (well, as much as they can struggle while still being pretty high level, so they won't start with masterpieces). I ain't too sure about that tho cuz I heard it like once or twice and never checked myself.

there is a hidden painting skill but not a hidden music skill. Virginia Feng (in my game) is still terrible at playing the piano despite her master artwork.

Well, in my opinion, the sims 4 does have a really good CAS and Buy/Build Mode with few exceptions like missing the colour wheel,auto-roof, cars and garages. But that's really it, it's great for building, decorating and making sims, not play with them. Also, basements were patched in the base game in sims 3 because of the first expansion they made, sims 3 adventures. They needed basements to store nectar, it would barely age (if not at all, I forgot the numbers) at ground/0 level. And you can drag the stairs in sims 3 too, giving you the possibility to make them 2-3-5 even 10 tiles long. You had the option to put rails in middle or on the sides.
@glanni4 жыл бұрын
I also distinctly remember that the quartertile placement cheat in the Sims 2 came with the very last Stuff Pack "Mansion and Garden Stuff", before that you had to use "boolprop snapobjectstogrid false" (or something like that) which made the ground slippery as heck and was a pain to use because you had to deactivate it for windows and doors, and chairs lest they wouldn't be accepted by the table.
@srdjangavrilovic32324 жыл бұрын
I agree with the ranking even tho i am a hardcore Sims 2 fan lol But i only wish you mentiomed how swatch system was better in the Sims 2 then 4 and how using create a style in Sims 3 made a game a bit laggy so it is not the bast idea to overuse the feature.

Nowadays I barely even play Sims 4 as a game, I mainly have fun with CAS and Build and Buy mode (with cc added). Whereas when I play Sims 3 I barely touch Build and Buy mode, but am content to play with the ugliest looking and unfinished buildings just because the game itself brings in all the fun.

I'm the complete opposite. My Sims 3 and 2 builds look amazing and dropped Sims 4 after around 20 hours of playtime. Not only was I bored, the buildings all looked weird and there was no space to freely build anyway.

What annoys me soo much about TS4 buy and build mode is the way the colour swatching works. By just seeing a tiny square you can't know how the full object will look. Like with some objects the tiny square is just one colour but but other parts of the object will also switch to a colour that was not displayed in the tiny square. You only find that out once the object is actually moved to the lot. And switching between colours againto see what you might like is just soo tiring. I loved how TS2 showed the full final look of the object already when deciding between the colours!

As i've commented in the other video, the Build/Buy mode is where 4 really excels. The possibilities are really endless. Expecially after the latest patches, the moveobject cheat and the debug objects the only limit is your creativity and the boundaries of your lot. Also worth mentioning, just like for the CaS, tye addition of the Gallery was one of the greatest thing they could've done, it connects the whole community together. P.S. also TS4 allows you to search for items and that alone makes it better than 2 and 3.

Fun Fact: the sims 4 feature of being able to place and move entire rooms was an updated version of what was seen in the sims 3 island paradise. The ability to place an entire pre-decorated room down on a lot was already in the sims 3 island paradise when you would build a resort, this was updated and added to the sims four for regular building. I always thought this feature was interesting in the sims 3, but lacking in some areas. But it's definitely better in the sims 4 build mode.

I got the Sims 3 for the first time last month but I haven't played it much because I'm saving up to get Generations and Supernatural and it's kind of overwhelming since there's a lot of stuff to do in comparison to Sims 4. However I find the Sims 4 build mode easiest to use (Sims 3 foundations are HARD) and the buy mode is good, just there are items that don't show up a lot (such as the surfaces, hutches that come with Cats & Dogs and Realm of Magic)
