Let me know what you guys thought of the show so far! Also, the reaction for Ep 2 will be out in an hour :)

really wish they were more fateful to the books in terms of casting. if they want diversity then make a show about black characters. Annabeth is blonde white girl.

The nightmares with The Voice was in the book most people forget about the Kronos dreams
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
Yeah completely forgot it was Kronos speaking to him 😂 I think the aesthetic just threw me off and made me think of Charon but makes me very happy that they're setting up this villain appropriately.
@rileyburnett72010 ай бұрын
Yep. Even when Percy sees the horse and eagle attack each other SPOILERS. Kronos is laughing and say something like you can’t stop them hero.

The Fates will actually be on the show. They released a poster for them before the premiere. But I guess, they moved the appearance to a later episode, to make it seem a lot scarier (ig?) since Percy is inside the world of the Olympians now and has the knowledge of being a half-blood. Anyways, great reaction! I've been really enamored by the series as of the moment as well. It's kind of frustrating - the one episode per week format - but i guess since it's only an 8-episode run, they need to prolong the hype.

SO glad they're in it!! The scene is so unsettling and it just adds a really dark moment to a somewhat light book and I think it's the perfect set-up for where the series is headed so very happy it's being included! 😁 Yeah, the one-episode-a-week thing is killing me!! But I know the wait between seasons are gonna be even worse 😭😭😂

In the book, when the minotaur appears, it is also in a flash in the middle of the storm, as if he had appeared after lightning had cut across the sky. I think they wanted to recreate the scene,That's why the minotaur appeared in an "explosion of light". Here is the part of the book where he more or less describes his "appearance"! "I looked back. In a flash of lightning, through the mud-spattered rear windshield, I saw a figure lumbering toward us on the shoulder of the road. The sight of it made my skin crawl"

I happen to LOVE it to pieces!!!!!!!!! THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND I COULDN"T BE HAPPIER!!!!!! Also.... am I the only one who reread the Percy Jackson books because I read them the first time when I was 12 and I'm 23 now sooooo.... I didn't remember a lot of it! Sooo..... I spent my summer rereading them and I happen to think the books were even better then I remembered!!!!! It also makes me giggle that they name the episodes the funny chapter titles from the books!!!!!
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
Absolutely loving this show so far too!! Still shocked they've managed to get the tone and feeling from the books translated to the screen so well and the cast are just great!! I didn't get the chance to reread the books 😂 literally finished the last Trials of Apollo book like two months ago and then just swamped with stuff. And yeah the episode titles are amazing, love that they actually used them!!

I love how he isn’t comparing it to the book constantly like he doesn’t mention that she HAS to be STOLEN or anything of that nature he just watches the show like it’s his first time hearing the story
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
Thanks 😁 helps that it's been a while since I read the book but I also want to try and analyse and appreciate how they're bringing this story to live action, this is an adaptation after all and things are going to change and I completely trust Rick to make changes that only add to the story or characters.
@m0thernature73010 ай бұрын
@@benspiller exactly if anyone can make a proper adaptation it is going to be Rick. When writers make the adaptation it is new but old, but will always maintain its heart! I definitely think Rick is subtly saying to the people who made the movie “this is how you can do both. Now watch me work.”
@danielhead812310 ай бұрын
Every adaptation has to change thing's but this one does it right of course the characters look different to the books that's not important the creator approved the cast and was involved in the show production
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
Completely agree, at first I wasn’t too happy with the casting but as time went on I was just happy we were getting an adaptation with Rick involved and now actually seeing them in the show makes me regret these initial thoughts as they have just been amazing so far!
@danielhead812310 ай бұрын
True it's more important to cast actor who capture the core of the characters written than the visual appearance and I love writer defending the cast against bigots@@benspiller

In the book hades sends the minotaur but zues actually strikes the car with lightning and thats what sends it off the road, in this version they tweaked it a bit but i really enjoyed that sally had a more active part. I hope that either later episodes or next season will have a bigger budget and longer episodes
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
Ah I thought that part was a little different, having Zeus send the Minotaur this time could make Hades look more like the misunderstood character that he is as right now all he's done is save Sally instead of sending the Minotaur to abduct her. Same, love that Sally has a far more active part, makes the weight of her sacrifice much more impactful. Really hoping the show will get a bigger budget, I'm already worried about how they'll do the later seasons with the Gods fighting Typhon and all that, plus if they decide to do the Heros Of Olympus they'll have Festus to deal with.

It’s hilarious because you pronounced Minotaur correctly, it belonged to king Minos.

@@benspiller min-oh-tar is a really really common pronunciation, but if you listen to linguistic and historical experts it’s mine-oh-tar. the official audiobooks he says min-oh-tar even though he correctly pronounced King Minos’s name.

I think that the figure in the dream is Kronos
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
I don’t know why but I completely forgot about him 😂 i think visually I was imagine something completely different and Charon just fits that aesthetic in my mind but very happy that there already setting up this guy appropriately.
@blankb748310 ай бұрын
I think your pronunciation for "minotaur" is more "correct" actually. In the US, we just pronounce it how it's pronounced in the show. In most Greek words though, the I is longer, like in Chiron or Aphrodite. I think in an interview, they said they tried out both pronunciations while filming.
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
I love that everyone is just as conflicted with how to pronounce it 😂😂 I'll probably keep pronouncing like the show for a while but I know I'll end up swithing back and forth.

I just want the series to slow down. Right now the pace is too fast and, for me, the scenes feel disconnected from each other. I really need it to breathe a bit more. I don't think it needs to be drawn out, but we do need a little build up and tension before the payoff. I do kind of worry that in an effort to be 'more book accurate' they're going to cram in scenes that don't really need to be there and make everything suffer as a result. The effects are pretty good, considering it's a TV show. Chiron's a little weird (mostly in the second episode). I don't know what they're doing but in the upper body shots he looks like he's being moved, not moving himself. I'm not sold on the Minotaur running on all fours. It looks kind of strange and makes him, visually, kind of blob. The spider monster you're thinking of is Arachne. Boatman is Charon. I think both pronoucations of Minotaur are correct, it mostly depends on where you are. Min (like minimum) is closer to the orginal, I think. Other than that: The Perseus myth is very intergrated into 'The Lightening Thief' From what I can remember 1: Percy and Perseus are sons of very powerful gods (Posiden and Zeus respectively) 2: I'm pretty sure that Zeus only interjects a few times to help Perseus, and Perseus isn't really identified in myth as Zeus' kid. Mostly the interaction is sending Athena, but I don't remember completely 3: Perseus and his mom have no connection to family. Mom and Perseus are sealed in a box and sent out to sea because granddad got a prophecy that his grandkid would kill him. 4: Percy's mom disappearing in a golden light, may be a reference to Perseus' conception. When mom is locked up (granddad's first solution to the prophecy) Zeus shows up as a golden light in the cel. 5: They are saved by a kind fisherman (Paul) who takes them in an is basically just a really good honest guy 6: Kind fisherman has a brother (Gabe) who happens to be king of the island they're on. He's an abusive jerk and really likes mom. He can't get to her because Perseus is close and protective of her. 7: To fix that, he gives Perseus an impossible task, go kill Medusa. If he refuses, he's a coward and the king can send him off disgraced. If he goes out he's likely going to die. 8: Perseus fights and kills Medusa (pretty much beat for beat what's in book.) 9: Perseus comes back, King demands proof, and Perseus shows him what's in the bag.

they needed the first two to be fast paced because they only have 8 episodes for the whole book. now that we’re onto the quest it’ll be slower
@benspiller10 ай бұрын
I do agree the pacing was very fast and I wish that these episodes were actually an hour long instead of like 30 minutes cause that could give them plenaty of breathing room. I had honestly forgotten how close Percy and Persus' stories are, I think the myth just wasn't put in depth into the book but it's clear Rick basically used that story as the template for his.
