Manor Lords continues and we build many new houses to attract more people to Cupboardia, because of course more people means we can work in more buildings and do more stuff! Yay for stuff! So yes, we build lots of new burgage plots with gigantic gardens on them.
The plan for the new homes is to use them to craft specialist things like weapons and armour, and to help with this we finally get round to building a mine on the iron deposit nearby and a bloomery to turn the iron ore into useful metal ingots.
With our forests dwindling we put more people to work in the forester hut and my goodness the trees suddenly appear out of nowhere! One moment empty field, the next we have a mighty forest! Good work tree planting people!
Also we begin work on upgrading the church, we try again to build our Manor house and there appear to be baddies on the way...

Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.
Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.
Manor Lords provides a gridless city-building experience with full freedom of placement and rotation. Building mechanics are inspired by the growth of real medieval towns and villages, where major trade routes and the landscape influenced how settlements shaped and developed.
Spreading outward from a central marketplace, build your residential, commercial, and industrial districts following the natural lay of the land. Establish farms based on soil fertility, position hunting grounds according to animal populations, and ensure access to adequate resource deposits and forests to provide the raw materials needed for growth.
Assign areas for housing and watch your residents build their homes in accordance with the historical burgage plot system. Each region will be subdivided based on your roads and the allotted space, and homes will scale accordingly.
From boots to barley and hides to honey, Manor Lords features a great variety of goods fitting of the era. Materials need to be transported and processed into finished products through production chains, and you must balance the basic needs of your people against the desire to produce luxury items to ensure happiness, manufacture trade goods for export, or forge arms and armor to aid in your conquests.
Resources are littered across the map, encouraging you to expand and establish multiple specialized settlements. Extract valuable ores from your mining colonies, while villages devoted to agriculture, herding, or hunting supply the grains and meats needed to feed your growing population.
Train a retinue of skilled warriors to fight battles alongside the levies you raise from the town militia. At times these soldiers will be needed to crush rebellions or suppress banditry, and at other times you will lead your men into battle to conquer or defend territory. When needed, mercenaries are a costly option to bolster your ranks.
A robust diplomacy system will allow you to communicate with other lords, using influence or threats to sway their actions. These competing lords have their own goals and will seek you out as well, and your response to their offers or insults can mean the difference between war and peace.

Your treasury wealth is different from your regional wealth and its used to purchase the mercs. It's in the upper right corner, by your portrait. It's a bit confusing at first, but the treasury wealth is mostly generated though taxes (after you get your manor house up). Warning though, your peasants get very grumpy at high taxes and they remember for a year or so. Seven percent is a good balance, but the wealth accumulates slowly. Your peasants are so happy now you might be able to tax them at 10 percent, it's inadvisable to go higher. You only have 20 troops available until you get more arms. The spearmen need a shield along with the spear. Making bows with the fletcher is really fast and can arm an archer troop really fast. Unfortunately, none of this can be done soon enough. Love all your series, keep up the good work! (I'll be closing my eyes until the battle is done during your next episode--yikes)) Oh! For any other viewers, check out Penge's Rim World series...it's a classic! One more thing, those wonky walls that appear instead of roads can be removed by using your regular road tool and tracing over the walls. Then just press "alt" and remove the roads. Hopefully, it works with this version, too. It's worth a try...unless you've grown fond of them.

In RL goats thrive on weeds, thistles and the like, hence they don't really need feeding. Great series Penge, many thanks.

Goats eat anything lol. Here in norway we have people renting out their goats to people who want to clean up some brush. Just fence in a area and leave the goats there a few weeks.

They are not so good at grazing though. If you want an animal so you dont have to mow the lawn, get a sheep.

Smaller plots should be the artisan houses and the longer plots should be the farming plots

@@TheGeekCupboard You can change level 1 specialization to level 2 spezialization but artisans will never change their profession again. Also plot size does not seem to matter for chickens and goats.

The journey of the Manor House was excruciating to watch lol. The issue you had was trying to do everything with the Manor at once - you can go into Castle Planner anytime.

I didn't know you could go back into the castle planner, the game doesn't tell you about that! We got there in the end though.

You need to assign the horses to the trading post, you almost got there when you clicked the advanced section in the trading post and then failed to assign them. Plus full trade means they will attempt to keep your dyes at the amount you set. If you just want to sell them you should have set it to export and then the number you set the the amount you want to keep in stock and not sell. Plus you removed everyone from the farm just as they were about to plough the fields..

I thought that pressing 'Order horse' on the trading post would assign it there once it had arrived! As for the full trade thing, I don't really understand what it does but lots of other people told me to use it so I did. Everyone's an expert at Manor Lords it seems!

@@TheGeekCupboard Ordering horse just orders the horse but does not assign it. While they are buggy, they do in fact help trading quite a lot.

I'd live with you Penge! 10:50 (Should we tell him he can rename all the animals? ) 19:50 as you saw, there is a development point that locks the cost of trade routes. 21:25Yes, when it's time to plant and sow, get the maximum number of families you can on farms! 25:00 I need to emphasize this Penge, *WHEAT GROWS IN WINTER* Please plan accordingly. 29:33 Gardens and orchards aside, you do *not* need massive narrow plots for more production for other house upgrades. Boyers and smiths need a small area for instance. Plan accordingly. 52:41 No Penge your stone needs to be stored close by and residences have priority. Build a closer warehouse. 1:03:00 Mercenaries need Keep treasury NOT regional wealth! You have zero!

Unless you have a trade route set up the family has to walk or ride miles to trade, and it’s only 20 items at once. The more trades you have going the slower it will be. Maybe either add more families or save to set up trade routes. Also, please permanently assign the horses there, it’s all they are good for

I think you need more fields rather than more farmers... Saw a comment in another video saying that 6 fields worked well, with each field being fallow for 2 years so there's 2 growing fields at a time. You can stick as many farmers on a field as you like, but the fertility is pretty mediocre and that's going to hobble your yield

@actualyalta

It's a "rich deposit". They have more resources than standard. Typical deer is 20, rich is 40. Standard iron might be 100, rich has something like 2000... That sort of thing.
