Please, Never Forget The Real Shadow the Hedgehog.

This video is intended to highlight the differences between Shadow the Hedgehog, the character Shiro Maekawa wrote for the video game Sonic Adventure 2, and Shadow the Hedgehog, the character Sega wants to market to you. Please do not direct any hate towards Sega as a company, or Takashi Iizuka. Both have every right to depict the character of Shadow the Hedgehog in any way they like. To a large company like Sega, your voice as a fan carries much less weight than analytics. In other words, where you spend your time and money impacts their decisions far more than complaining on Twitter.
This video does not discuss Shadow's character in the 2006 Sonic The Hedgehog video game, as the topic is much, much, deeper and difficult to discuss, due to the pop culture and historical references used in its writing. I intend to share my own personal thoughts on that game's story in a separate video. One that will, out of necessity, have a different format to this video, which is intended to present two sides of a story, and allow the viewer to come to their own conclusions.

It's funny you're using SA2, a game that Iizuka was the creative lead of. Meaning everything that happens in that game has to match his vision. Including Shadow's character. And Shadow 05, a game that Maekawa is involved in & listed in the credits. He even likes it and helped followed up on it in Sonic 06 lol Point is: Shadow never left. That's especially true on the JP side where these characterization talks don't exist. Both of Shadow's creators adore him.

In my opinion: you wouldn't claim to be willing to sacrifice your own arm, for scenes that had to be cut, if you are in full agreement with how a character has been portrayed in your game. I was aware that Iizuka is the creative lead. However, this video is intended to present information and let the viewer come to their own conclusions. Not to be a platform for my opinion. So I respect if people like Shadow's current characterization.

>Point is: Shadow never left. Debateable. Shadow from Sonic Adventure 2 is a subdued type of character, the strong and silent type. He's firm but ultimately fair. But in Shadow's spin-off game, he says (and I quote) "This is like taking candy from a baby, which is fine by me!". This is why I abhor Shadow's spin-off game and don't consider it to be canon. Shadow's spin-off game is forced corporate slop created only to cash in on Shadow's popularity at the expense of artistic integrity. Shadow fulfilling the dying wish of his only friend Maria by saving Earth at the cost of his own life at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 and then never coming back to life ever again is infinitely more emotionally satisfying than what we ended up getting and no-one will ever change my opinion about this no matter what. Shadow should have stayed dead.
