For the face forward interview shots, there was a mild high frequency static. you can hear it pretty clearly early on but it does start to go away. either through my internal filtering or you caught and corrected it. not sure the source, something to pour over the wave forms for.

When I had the 85 gm the AF was defo not fast, noisy and clunky, heavy and cumbersome, sharpness is not everything and images can be to sharp, clinical almost but lack character. After 35 years in the game my advise would be don’t let sharpness rule the choices nor going for a 1.4 over an F2 as the amount of times in reality you will use 1.4 is minimal. Batis all the way or the Sony 1.8 over the G Master

Strictyly stills for Me . . . after watching your vids I tried both the GM and Batis . . . one thing you might mention is how the Zeiss 'renders' images. IMO there is more 'character' with the Batis . . . hard to describe, but there is a 'pop' almost 3D-like with the Zeiss. Yep . . . GM wins on sharpness, slightly better blow-out, & controls . . . no argument there . . . but for me the 'Zeiss-Look' straight out of the camera with stills offers a richer image that comes to life. Thank you for your honest reviews, you aided me in making a great purchase for my particular needs. Cheers.

1. The Batis (on my Sony A7) contrast isn't quite enough, but women feel it is "kind." 2. Wish it had on-barrel control. 3. I find myself thinking about my Nikon 85 AF-S on my D750...a lot.

Def the Batis for me. I rented the GM. It’s incredibly noisy (and slow) AF, heavy.. overall too much money for very little payoff especially in video.

Sigma can’t even compare… Sigma lenses have (literally, no exaggeration) no micro contrast whatsoever and render objects in the images completely flat with no depth and no dimensionality between them. At least some of the GM lenses have SOME micro contrast rendering, so they can somewhat compare but Sigma, Samyang, Tamron…?! Yeah, not a chance. Image quality wise, nobody will ever beat Zeiss, Hasselblad and Leica. Especially Zeiss. You can look at AF speeds, sharpness, aberrations or whatever other meaningless stats but Zeiss, Leica and Hasselblad lenses will always create the best looking images with that top notch rendering of dimensionality and micro contrast - simply unmatched - again, especially Zeiss.

@@MattJackson_KZbin I've a couple of G Master lenses, my favourite being the 24mm so expected that to come out on top. There is something strange going on with those lenses that give a look the others can't touch imo.

I agree. The sharpness of the glass and the lens coatings produce amazing images. The 85mm GM blows me away when I use it even on cameras like the FX9. Really stunning images.

I own the batis and I used it only like 3 times because it’s too close I’m a music videographer so it isn’t ideal I own zeiss 50mm 1.4. Sigma art 2.8 24-70 a zeiss 16-35mm f4 and the zeiss 85mm f1.8 and out of them all the 50mm and the 24-70 are my work horses I use them for everything
