The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

One player raised the bar the other was barred. There was a lot of disrespect towards Larry Bird in the 2000's but that changed after a while once in sunk in that these enormous salaries had a lot to do with the growth and popularity the competition between he and magic drew in the 80's which helped the league tremendously survive and grow. The sad thing is a similiar healthy rivalry was beginning to bud between Kobe and Gilbert, what would have been great to see and reminisce about but instead of that we have to hear him bashing one of the greatest ever. The league took a big gamble on him and it didn't pan out.

Related to that, there's a great story about Wilt Chamberlain. A couple of front office types who were around when Wilt played were in the stands watching a game in the early 1990s. They were watching the rather pathetic play of the centers in the game. One turned to the other and asked, "How many points a game do you think Wilt could score against these guys?". The other replied "Maybe 15-20." The first said, "That's all?". The second replied, "Yeah...but remember Wilt's in his late 50s now.".

I've always felt that the best bball minds are the ones who weren't the best players. Executing and inventing/intuiting are different processes. It'd would explain why most coaches aren't elite players and why the best players never seem to make it in any of the front office positions. Legitimately, only 2 all-time great players have made it as FO guys, and that's West and Bird. The rest have almost all stunk. Something about not having innate or latent talent for the game forces players to understand the inner workings and reality of roster construction and offensive/defensive tactics.

Probably, but I'm betting Hakeem wouldn't charge $50,000 to go to the hood. It's a minimal charge for legendary education for multi billion dollar athletes. After 2011 and somebody said he worked with Hakeem, he was excellent. So yes, I would say post god for that because he became even a tremendous playmaker from there and became unstoppable. Like you can't just say "force him to the bigs" because now he has a post fade close to the basket. I remember when Arenas told a behind-the-scenes story about Jordan & Kobe's last game against each other (KB w/ 55 pts). Claiming that Jordan told Kobe that the latter will never fill the former's shoes. Then it showed up in another video where an interviewer tells John Salley about Gilbert's story. Somehow, those two videos were enough for people to start believing that the story was true despite the fact that GA never played w/ either legend nor did he name anyone as the source of his info. Hopefully, his credibility crumbles after this new display of ignorance.

@leptonparticle238, @UnconventionalReasoning Guys, guys, let's not fight. How about this; Let's use Jonny's take from his "Ultimate Team"-video, and have Hakeem play as Power Forward. That way, we can put Wilt as Center for the ultimate Twin Towers. What do you say?
@UnconventionalReasoning
@UnconventionalReasoning Жыл бұрын
@@c99kfm I agree with the suggestion, and I've already put Bill Russell as the power forward. Bird, Jordan, Magic round out the starters, with LeBron as the sixth man. While Hakeem would also be excellent with that switch, Bill and Wilt had a strong friendship, even as competitors. When comparing pre-modern [1946-80], mid-modern [1980-2000], and modern [2000+] players, Wilt and Shaq are each others only real comp. It seems that Russell and Hakeem are also mirror-images in many ways. Wilt and Bill on one team vs Shaq and Hakeem on another would be epic.
@c99kfm
@c99kfm Жыл бұрын
@@UnconventionalReasoning Now you're speaking my language! Who needs one "ultimate team", when you can have two teams playing each other in an ultimate match-up! I always felt Russell was closer to Duncan than Hakeem, style-wise. Of course, Duncan is another of those players somewhere in between a #4 and #5 position.
@UnconventionalReasoning
@UnconventionalReasoning Жыл бұрын
@@c99kfm Yes, Duncan is another good comp for Russell. I prefer to consider 6 positions instead of 5, with four hybrids and two 'pure' positions: 1: pure point; Kidd, CP3, Nash 1-2: Iverson, Curry, Harden 2-3: Bird, Jordan, Pippen 3-4: LeBron, Barklay, Melo, Durant 4-5: Russell, Hakeem, Duncan 5: Wilt, Shaq, Kareem There are a few 'pure' 2, 3, 4 [Reggie, Dominique, K Malone], but they are rare because they have to be exceptional at their position to get away without as much flexibility. This splits the bigs with the comps we are talking about. While fans today may question the Wilt/Kareem comp, in the three full seasons they overlapped, they had some fierce, well matched battles. I think the Russell/Wilt match-ups were different, they had very different styles and intentions, Wilt: "I'm gonna score." Bill: "Yes, you will, but less than you'd like."

The idea that pro athletes in any sport are automatically more knowledgeable than the fans of their sport is unfair. While fans certainly don’t have the same insight as those who have actually played the games, the athletes themselves are oftentimes far less informed in regard to broader landscape or (as in this case) the history of their respective sports. Just bc a person is talented enough to play a pro sport doesn’t mean he/she knows everything about it. And at the same time, it is possible to enjoy and understand a sport without possessing the physical gifts necessary to play it.

After LeBron's meltdown in the 11 Finals he went straight to Hakeem in the offseason to work on his post game and it literally made him a different player. LeBron from 04-11 was a physical beast that only the best defenses in the league could really contain. LeBron from 2012 to 2020 was potentially the most unstoppable basketball player I've seen with my own eyes, and his post game was the key to it all. He was always a good finisher and playmaker, but being able to slow down the game in the post when needed unlocked his full potential and made him into the GOAT candidate he eventually became

Hakeem is basically a modern Embiid, though Dream is better physically(faster, more agile, better leaper, less injury prone), better defender, better and more post moves, better leader, better intagibles. Only thing Embiid has on Hakeem is 3 point shooting and slight edge in strenght, but that wont matter since Hakeem was known for shutting down centers stronger than him(Shaq, Robinson, Mourning, Ewing etc.)
