@@Ashley-og9ti you may have already figured it out by now bit just in case, if you take a strand of your hair and sit in in a bowl of water if your hair stays on the surface, it's not absorbing the water meaning your hair is low porosity, if it sinks your hair can easily absorb moisture like a sponge, so it's high. If your hair stays under the surface but doesn't sink all the way to the bottom your in the middle.

Makes sense. Relaxed hair is chemically processed and therefore has a higher porosity level than it did before it was relaxed. The more porosity, the more likely folks will benefit from cool shots, silicones, and heavy oils because the more porous, the greater the need to plug the holes so the moisture doesn't leak out. I honestly think low porosity hair is a blessing now. Once you know just how your hair likes you to get the moisture in on wash days and refresh on the days in between, and if you've got a decent moisture/protein balance? It just thrives.

I'm low porosity. I use the cool rinse with my deep conditioners. I find I have better moisture retention than a warm rinse after it air dries for a bit. No frizz, no straw like brittle strands, and less tangling and increased shine. It makes sense that a cool shot works for some low porosity people as ive read in various places that warm water keeps the hair shaft open and can cause some of the conditioning benefits to get rinsed away. I do however apply my products warmed up. I put my bottles of product in a sink of hot water while I shower and wash my hair. Moisturizing Gel, leave in, cream, and especially oils are all warmed, and absorb very well. Perhaps my hair shingles arent as sensitive to the cool water, but since I've done this my hair has thrived with this technique. Thanks for posting this, you push people to really listen to their hair and not jump on bad wagons just because their favorite influencers do something that's different and against the norm.

(post pooing? 🤔) When I coat my hair with ANY kind of oil an hour before.. a day before.. a minute before.. I shampoo and condition, it literally forms a barrier around my hair and nothing penetrates! The water takes forever to barely absorb, the moisturizing shampoo causes my DETANGLED hair to tangle, and even a deep condtioner that sits on my head for an hour does nothing! My hair ends up drying up within minutes after getting out of the shower and every product I apply afterward is a waste. instead of my hair being juicy, spongey, and soft... it's dry like hay, frizzy, temperamental, and weak. I pretty much only use oils and butters when they're emulsified into something water based, and even then I use products featuring heavy oils/butters (like castor oil and shea butter in the first 3-5 ingredients) sparingly. I'm with you on this.

I’d love to know your process. If I wash my hair twice in a week it tends to be drier than me just washing it once a week. I’m not one to really jump on band wagons. The cold shots worked when I was relaxed, but I also didn’t need to do a ton of moisturizing after I conditioned my hair. But if what you’re doing is working, I’d spread the message. Of course, didn’t things work for different people. Products that work for my friend don’t work for me and vice versa. That’s the only problem I see with the natural hair rules. One size does not fit all.

I completely agree as a bright cousin. I use to flat iron my hair all the time, so when I was on my journey to care for my wavy/loose curly hair; I tried some of the same techniques and was discouraged when they didn't work. I later learned that my hair is normal porosity and that applying a leave in when my hair 50% dry is more effective for locking in moisture. At the end of the day doing what's best for your hair is healthier than following the "rules". I love your attitude.

I remember when I had a relaxer and used to go to the salon they would use cold water to rinse my hair. Then when I would wash my hair I would also do this. Now I just use warm water. I'm going to start putting in my leave in condition in the shower. Thanks! 😘💝

I have very fine, not very thick, 1A low porosity. I've been playing around with reverse shampooing (conditioner first, then shampooing roots while the conditioner is still in). I previously only used cold water, but now I start lukewarm before my conditioner so it can really sink in and switch to cold when I am ready to rinse my shampoo out. This works so great for me! But the conditioner is my only moisture product, after my rinse I only use a light gel for texture.

Okay!, low porosity hair has close cuticles that's why we have hard time to get moisture in our hair, warm water is supposed to open, in which helps moisture to get into our hair... just explaining why what she is saying is true 😁😁😁😁😁👏🏾

😂 preach it sister! I been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. The cold water is just putting your hair in lock-down mode. After practically 8 years of struggling with my EXTREMELY low porosity hair i recently switched things up by diluting my DC with water and warming it up before going under my hooded dryer, and also spritzing my hair with VERY WARM water before applying my leave-in and girl...... 😍. Thanks for putting it out there. Like you said when one is new to the natural hair game we end up doing what they tell us to do, but in time one comes to realise that you need to find what works for Your hair, and there are always exceptions to the rules. 👍

Hi Cousin! Very interesting. When my hair had heat and color damage I rinsed my hair with cool water and it worked because my cuticle was wide open. When I switched stylist and we were able to cut off the damage and grown new hair that was not damaged, I realized I have low porosity hair and have to work harder to get the moisture in. Now I rinse in warm water and when I deep condition I sit under the dryer. This allows the heat to work and help my hair absorb the conditioner. When I put on my leave in I find it’s good to put on a plastic cap for 10 minutes before I proceed with my styling products. Great video!

Hey cousin! I feel like you're channeling scary spice 💕 I love the bantu knots. I agree that the natural hair community has these rules that are geared more towards people with high porosity. Low porosity hair has cuticles that are close tight together already, overlapping. Alot of us use heat to open our cuticles, but that don't mean they're wide open, just open enough to let moisture into your core. Those cold shocks can lead to hydral fatigue.

Just as with overall health and wellness, gotta do what's best for YOUR hair. Should be the number 1 rule for each and every one of us. That said.... going on this natural journey as a massive community of sisters has been the most mindblowing thing this past decade. GIRL! I would have looked at you sideways....

I agree with you 100% After I finish washing my hair, I don't even put cold water on it, because I'm in the UK. So if I don't have my heating on, as soon as I come out of the bathroom, I find that the cool/cold air does the sealing, and that's within 5 minutes. By the time I start to apply my leave in conditioner, the product just ends up sitting on my hair. By the next day or the day after, I end up with build up. I'm going to try applying the leave in conditioner whilst I'm in the shower.

I have realized that if the directions on products state to apply on wet hair, dry or damp, etc, then I follow what the directions state. This aids in avoiding a negative outcome, such as flaking, when products dry after being applied.

You're right! Sometimes you have to listen to your hair and not the instructions on the bottle. I did the cool shots briefly then realized it was hard for me to get me leave in to penetrate my hair and any other product. My hair has to be warm or my hair products. Once those cuticles are closed its wrap.

Before I get out of the shower I do a cool shot and put a shower cap on. This makes sure while I'm drying off my cuticles aren't releasing any of the moisture from in the shower. But when I start my styling process, I re-wet my hair with warm water to open the cuticles back up again. Who knows tbh
Это реально работает?!
