This is one of my local lines; the 195s run the express through to York while the Sprinters typically run the Colnes. Interestingly if you're coming from Yorkshire way and want to go to Colne but can't cross Burnley you have to double back at Accrington as the expresses don't stop at Rose Grove where the line splits

I've done that line, Blackburn to Colne (plus Nelson station too), one saturday a few years ago when they ran a 150/1 coupled to a 142. But I haven't done the stops between, including these three. However, I have now visited all 60 stations on the Tyne and Wear Metro, my fourth and fifth complete route (yellow and green lines) after the Stourbridge shuttle a couple of years ago, Birmingham New St to Rugeley Trent Valley and Birmingham New St to Leicester earlier this year. Next are the 3 stops between Alnmouth and Morpeth, to complete Northern's Chathill service and also all stops on the ECML between Chathill and Doncaster. Plus, when the covid restrictions are eased, I'll go stay with friends in Bradford to finish the Airedale and Wharfedale lines (3 stops left), and try to do more of west yorkshire.

*Groans at Pleasington gags* Class 195s are used on the York/Leeds to Blackpool services. East Lancashire route services are any 15x unit. A lot of Lancashire stations retain, to this day, NNW branding if you know where to look. Huncoat if I remember right was removed as a request stop in that May 2018 timetable recast. And when filming was taken place, the majority of Northern's request stops were put as normal stops - however, as of today, we are back to request stops. All Northern's timetable posters have been removed from stations during the current C-19 pandemic - will be reinstated from December.

@Geoff Your description says Hapworth, not 'apton. I've used to get this trainline for years, it's been on and off requests stops, but I've never had to request them as they always stop anyway. When you've got a headache or you've been on your feet all day, and you just need a nice sit-down, that's when you get a pacer. I grew up on the Padiham line before it became an official greenway. It was a single line raised up using waste from the coal mine that was at one end and covered in a deep layer of ballast. It was still in good nick long after it was abandoned due to everyone using it as a footpath. It was fantastic as a kid, I walked the length of multiple times and grew up playing on it.

When you get to/do Entwistle for the last of the main Lancashire ones, you should know that its actually built next to an old station thats completely demolished and no longer exists If you look on google maps you'll see the old platform outline, and the road by it is called Station Approach cos of the old one used to be there :3 And theres another one just down the line as well. All that remains of that one is the old station master's house and the level crossing just behind where the station used to be.

8:06 "Apparently there was no need, because he says we are stopping at all the stations anyway today" Doesn't that mean that they are not request stops if they are stopping anyway, so you have to go back some time when they ARE 'Sticky Hand Out Jobs'. Incidentally the branch line from Glannow Junction to Colne, which passes through Burnley Barracks, was single tracked in 1971. The canal between Manchester and Rochdale is called the Rochdale Canal. It goes as far as Sowerby Bridge. From there you can get to Leeds but only by using a couple of other navigations. I guess there are no timetable boards at Burnley Barracks but there are currently no time tables at any Northern station. During lockdown the timetable was being revised on a week by week basis and so printed timetables could not be kept up to date. With the new time table now being introduced I’d expect to see printed timetables making a come back in the next few weeks.

Last week I travelled from Flimby (request stop) to Braystones (request stop) and had to yell at the guard across all the tape put up by Northern to protect their guards from passengers! I also noticed that neither Nethertown nor Braystones had ticket machines, so you could spend all day travelling back and forth between the two free of charge, as the guards aren't selling tickets at the moment! The one on my train had no ticket machine.

Blackburn, on this line, has barriers so the ticket machines have been placed on (I think) all stations on the line to prevent anyone trying to get away without paying. Northern is quite strict when it comes to that these days. Is the next Request stop gonna be Entwistle?

@badwolf19844 жыл бұрын
Geoff Padiham is my neck of the woods, wish I knew you were in the area, I would not mind but I was at Burnley barracks that day, anyway the reason, why there are new ticket machines at these request stops as northern had a recent crackdown on fare dodgers, there's been many a time I've been on the trains on this line where there was no way to get a ticket other than the guard, and put it bluntly they were lazy and didn't check or care, I admit in the past I used this to my advantage, even when getting off the train at Burnley central to buy a ticket when the guard could not take card payments, but then the station staff just said wait a min for the train to leave and carry on. Also, the East Lancashire line used to run all the way to Skipton, as a double line and had a spur to Barnoldswick, there has been a lot of lobbying by SELRAP to get the line re-opened and electrified all the way to Skipton from Colne as the trackbed was protected. but as governments change there are setbacks. Oddly you mentioned Burnley barracks had a few passengers get off that's normal, why its a request stop I never know as every train I go on it stops! Passengers or not.
