So glad you are showing the actual correct techniques for fine sewing along with the beautiful designs. This is how it is done! The pattern fits, (an actual pattern is used, lol!) It is cut accurately. Interfacing and support materials are used (love the elastic at the bodice front), you understitch to keep the bodice in place at the top edge (this is essential) and you press as you go and use a tailor's ham to press shape into the garment. Sewing is only as good as the pressing... There are a lot (enough) of slap dash artists on KZbin that have probably never consulted a sewing book to learn these techniques and worse, don't even care to improve their technical skills. They are fun, but their work does not bear close inspection. Hurray for you for elevating the fine art of sewing. Clap! clap!

I adore your very handy looking little pouch for all of your sewing needs. I'm also really impressed at how neatly you finish off each piece of the dress. It's really lovely ... but as I'm older, I'd probably make the straps wider, not use sleeves as I live in a tropical climate, and increase the length. I love the softness of the pleats too ...

Lovely dress, i would appreciate if you could include suggested fabrics with your patterns on your web site and videos. I am sewing through my fabric stash and my greatest difficulty is matching fabrics to patterns.

My bust darts keep turning out so pointy even though I've tried all the methods (sewing close to the edge, close to the tip; shortening stitch length; curving the dart), so I'm wondering if the pressing is the problem, since I'm using a rolled up shirt because I don't have a tailor's ham.

If you can't press it right, it could be fabric features that don't allow you to press the points smoothly, and a dart is too broad for this fabric exactly. Use more steam and use circular movements around a dart point. Or you can even wet the point area, if fabric allows it.

@@DARIAPatternmaking The fabrics I was using are a Fuschia Seersucker (55% Cotton, 45% Polyester) & a Stretch Cotton Broadcloth (95% Cotton, 10% Spandex). Are those usually hard to make smooth darts with? With one of them I used a pattern that I manipulated into a side dart, which to my surprise turned out really big (the dart), so I made the bulk into seam allowance. It is a very short bodice (sits right under bust) for a size 8 dress form, which is not a big size, so I don't know why the dart turned out like that. Are bigger darts hard to make smooth?
