Hi again Timmy nice work as usual. I'm a sparky by trade I can tell you the reasons motors burn out is a breakdown in the insulating layers between stator windings. This happens due to overload or water ingress either of which will heat the winch motor up beyond its temperature limits. I wouldn't be so quick to throw away the burnt out stator, take it to a motor rewinder, they may be able to improve on manufacturers windings too! Cheers Timmy
@timmyhasheart9 ай бұрын
Yeah awesome dude thank you, while I have a pretty good understanding of DC, DC motors are something that I’m not very well versed in haha. I appreciate that info maybe I’ll take it in to get it rewound? Cause the brushes are fine it’s literally just the stator windings that are fried. Thanks heaps mate 🙏🏻🙏🏻

@@timmyhasheartlate reply just to clarify did you have the overdrive ratio in the winch when the motor fried its self? With over drive gearing with only has a load rating of 1800kg might explain why it let go
@timmyhasheart2 ай бұрын
@beartiger1553 yeah it was set to overdrive but it’s a little bit more complex than that. I was running it over volted to 24v which kinda renders the load rating pointless, because you’re increasing the kw but I was also actually running twin motors on it, the 2 theories for it burning out are either A. Voltage drop from insufficient cable size or battery supply, therefore causing amp spike and heat burning out one of the motors, and theory B. Is that one of the motors was actually faulty, which is what I’m gravitating mostly toward even though my power supply was indeed on the edge of being sufficient. But the way it burned out looked more like a stator short. But yeah either way that’s what went on. 👍🏻👍🏻
@beartiger15532 ай бұрын
@@timmyhasheart yeah I’ve had both a and b issues as well as overl loading the winch in overdrive causing heat besides the motor problem how do you like the red winch ps Loving the no bs content
@timmyhasheart2 ай бұрын
@beartiger1553 yeah overloading and stalling a motor can definitely do it too, it’s basically the same thing as having too little power supply or too small of cables but running 2 motors instead of 1 plus running them at 24v it was more than sufficient to winch my 2.5t vehicle at 61:1, I firmly believe it was faulty stator windings. I would prefer to have the red winch hornet, in all honesty I never liked the cobra after I burned this motor I chucked the warn back on. Which is now running a bow2 motor and a twin speed gearbox at 15% and 50% ratio increases Thanks so much mate, appreciate the feedback 👍🏻

Why the Nissan GU and GQ patrol front bull-bars are not stamped like ARB Delux bumpers for 60,70,79,80 series etc. It's all comes in tube and the owner welded them together the way he likes. I mean Toyota, ford, Isuzu etc. Bull-bars are not made of of bunch of iron tubes welded together

Interesting take haha. Yeah you can get ARB style bars for patrols also, just I think most owners of them prefer tube style bars. The one on the GU is actually bought like that, ADR compliant etc.

Normally, burnt motors are to low voltage, on winch trucks we have always gone 2 batteries per motor on warn 6hp.
@timmyhasheart9 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s actually what Kistler’s suggestion was, tbh I think if this is a low voltage problem, it would most likely be more due to the choking of the second motor due to the 1 solenoid, I explained it in this video cause I always monitor my voltage at the batteries and never really dips below 22-24. But that’s definitely not what the second motor would be seeing inline, considering the first motor is fine. However Cam from road runner thinks it looks more like a short, considering you’d think a burn from low voltage would burn between the commutator & stators. But yeah in any case 2 OX motors off 2 batteries is asking a lot. Well sort her.
@Brennomac839 ай бұрын
@timmyhasheart I didn't realise only a single solenoid also, yeah I see where the issues are now. Each motor should be a separate system. Anyways I'm sure you have this covered.
@timmyhasheart9 ай бұрын
@@Brennomac83 yeah absolutely agree, especially the amps that an ox draw but like I’m also new to all of this, I do understand a lot about DC, but there’s people like Kistler and Cam etc. that I try to lean on when things like this happen. @cyclemoto87449 ай бұрын
@@timmyhasheart The track was towards the first part of the video. Didn't realise it was Blink but then again I was never a fan of them. Not having a go because the music wasn't to my taste, it's all subjective and a greater percentage of your viewers may disagree with my opinion but at the very least I think toning down the volume results in a better experience when the music can be polarising (not as abrasive for those who don't enjoy, who may then lower the volume further, and those who do enjoy it can turn up their volume). No grudges, no worries but appreciate your explanation. Cheers. ps:water off a duck's back should anyone want to refer to me as Karen ;)
