I want to thank Plex also for supporting you… I wouldn’t have a Plex server with a limetime pass if it weren’t for your videos…

For me, enable HDR tone mapping was not enabled by default, I had to enable it. I'm glad I watched the video and was able to address it correctly.

This is great! I just tried it and it's working great on my GMKtec NucBox G5 with N97. Windows 11.

I've had this same setup operating for a couple of weeks, alongside a NAS-based version of Plex. The Synology NAS doesn't transcode well but the N100 will transcode anything you throw at it. Don't load it up with any other apps or it will slow down quickly. I'm very pleased with the price/performance.

Thanks - Suppose I want to play HDR through my shield to a projector that is just SDR - Are there settings to get the colors correct?

Malware detection runs all of the time and takes lots of CPU.

I have the same N100 system, but just ordered an N300 based system on Amazon to try. I do use Linux though (specifically Ubuntu, because that's what we use at work). The N100 does a great job of transcoding 4k movies to play at 1080p on an Nvidia Shield (and a Sony television that has zero apps).

Does the upcoming HEVC hardware accelerated transcoding feature do tonemapping on older kaby lake CPU's? I tested it with the beta that's available on the Plex forums, and I thought I remember it working fine on my i7-7700.

What kind of transcoding does the intel arc cards give you on plex? does it do the hdr tone mapping?

Basically the same as the built in GPU, but capable of far more streams. Not sure about under Windows though.

I didn't know about the Tiger Lake requirement. I recently tried it with an older Intel and got a "(hw)", but from the performance I knew it was lying to me. Probably a bug.

I would be interested for comparison with Jellyfin because I am using Jellyfin because it's open source self hosted and nobody tracks you like Plex.

The premise described about what tone mapping is used for doesn't match my understanding and use. It is to let devices that do not support HDR play such content without the native playback being so washed out that you would not want to watch it. So it is to match the quality of HDR content as best you can do on an non HDR screen. The lack of any real demonstration of use here, with the one shown looking rather poor, demonstrating that the feature can be of lower quality that often expected, was poor and indicated to me that this is not necessarily that good in real world use. So is this a not so subtle promotion of Plex? It makes me wonder. MPV out of the box in Linux has, for me demonstrated an automatic ability to tone map to a decent enough level. Other implementations have shown variable quality, with some VPU hardware yielding better results with exactly the same release of software. How HRD content is mastered in a particular content can also affect results from video to video.

This is why I recommended the Linux version of the server if you intend on using this feature frequently
